Chapter 190

Chapter 0190

She lifted her gaze and saw Alex standing up, staring expressionlessly at her.

A moment later, she watched him pick up his phone and casually glance at it. “Go buy something.”

His tone was flat, but there was a sense of relief in Candice although she didn’t think Alex was

intentionally helping her out.

But no matter the reason, going out was always better than staying in this atmosphere.

She didn’t like this kind of environment; it made her instinctively repulsed.

Yet, strangely, Sieg looked at Alex carelessly.

He smirked, speaking up, “Are you intentionally sending her away?”

Candice paused briefly before she heard Alex’s indifferent voice. “Just to buy a cake.”

She stared at him.

Alex didn’t like sweets.

Sieg, however, kept his eyes on Candice.

Upon hearing Alex’s words, he raised an eyebrow and asked, “Does Sonia want cake?”

Alex nodded.

Sieg’s face was even more scornful. He shifted his gaze onto Candice, no longer bothering to conceal

the disgust in his eyes. He sneered, raising his voice with a tone of mockery, “Did you hear that? Alex

asked you to buy a cake for his girlfriend.”

He emphasized the word “girlfriend” as if afraid Candice wouldn’t understand.

“Still, when you think about it, Sonia is Alex’s real girlfriend. Since you’re Alex’s secretary, serving his

future wife seems quite fitting for you.”

“After all, maybe she’ll be your boss in the future.” Sieg spoke, then deliberately added, “Oh, I forgot,

you got fired because you have no morals.”

Everyone in their circle knew that Candice was previously speculated to be the future daughter–in- law

of the Elysian family. But Sieg intentionally mentioned Sonia now, aiming to degrade her. He was

hinting that she had already been dumped by Alex.

His words were blatant mockery, clearly treating Candice as a joke.

Candice’s drooping hand slowly clenched, her eyes fixed on him, emotions raging within her chest.

Sieg showed no sign of restraint. Just by observing how obediently Candice followed Alex’s orders, he

guessed that either she was under Alex’s control or had something to ask of him.

So, he didn’t hold back at all.

He raised an eyebrow. “Am I wrong? Candice, you’re truly shameless. Juggling between Alex and

seducing Hanley, aren’t you disgusted with yourself?”

He sneered, “Stop acting like you’re so wronged: It’s disgusting to watch!”

Candice released her grip from her palm. Looking at Sieg’s self–satisfied face, she felt nothing but

disgust.

How could someone be so repulsive yet so self–righteous?

After a moment, she gritted her teeth and, with a trembling voice, spoke up, “I used to think you were

just arrogant, but now I see you’re a complete idiot, and a disgustingly stupid one at that.”

“Malicious and foolish, Sieg, you’re really…” Candice struggled to find the right words, closing her eyes,

her body trembling.

She wasn’t made of stone; being insulted to her face could still hurt.

She was just reminding herself to endure it as she didn’t have the right to defy Alex now.

She had to endure it.

But no matter how much she endured it, she had a temper, and she felt aggrieved and angry.

Sieg’s words made Candice feel like her bones were soaked in cold seawater, hurting and chilling her.

His thoughts represented what everyone around Alex thought. Perhaps that included Alex himself.

They all thought she was shameless, inferior, and deserving of this treatment.

“Didn’t you hear what I just said?” Candice’s eyelashes closed tightly. She felt desolation but suddenly

heard Alex’s emotionless voice.

He sounded indifferent, almost as if he hadn’t heard the conversation between her and Sieg just now.

“Half an hour for you.”

Even though Candice was being humiliated by Sieg, Alex reminded her not to forget about Sonia’s

cake.

Her face was numb; her eyes dark, as she looked at Alex, who appeared cold.

Candice’s body trembled slightly before she nodded silently, answering in a hoarse voice. “Okay.”

It was scorching in midsummer, but the evening breeze carried a sense of restlessness. Yet, she

felt cold all over.

Because she suddenly realized she didn’t even have the qualification to be weak and retreat.

How could anyone willingly subject themselves to ridicule and willingly expose themselves to

ridicule?

But what else could she do?

She only had her grandfather, her sole relative. The only lifeline she had left in her mind was her

grandfather.

Under a streetlight, Candice suddenly looked up at the dark blue sky.

Perhaps she had committed too many wrongs in her past life, and now she had to repay them in

this one.

Wasn’t it said that after hardship comes ease?

Why couldn’t she see any hope at all?

There wasn’t a dessert shop near the bar, so Candice drove to the nearest shopping district and

found a cake shop. But when she returned with the cake, she discovered Alex unexpectedly at the

bar’s entrance.

His shirt was impeccably neat, and when he saw Candice, there was a hint of coldness in his

expression.

She pursed her lips and handed him the cake. “The cake you wanted.”

He didn’t take it.

Without much interest, he glanced at the cake and simply said, “Drivehome.”

He then walked straight to his own car.

Candice didn’t say anything. She knew Alex wanted to go to the Northern part of the city. However,

unexpectedly, Alex softly said, “Back to the apartment.”

Looking at the cake she had bought, Candice asked, “Not going to the North of the city?”

What she wanted to say was shouldn’t she deliver the cake to Sonia?

“She’s asteen

Alex’s tone didn’t reveal any emotion, and she didn’t press any further. She indeed didn’t want to go to

the northern part of the city to find Sonia.

It had only been a few days since she had moved out. Coming back now, it felt like a world away.

She parked the car steadily in the garage and then said to Alex, “We’re here.”

Alex grunted in acknowledgment, but he didn’t get out of the car. She silently stared at Alex.

With a slight lift of his eyelids, he asked, “Is there something else?”

Candice’s heart sank. She looked at his dark, calm eyes and struggled to speak, “Are you satisfied

today?”

As she uttered these words, a tinge of bitterness rose within her. How absurd. She was already

embarrassed enough, yet she still had to humbly ask if Alex was satisfied.

Even at this moment, Candice felt pathetic.

But Alex remained silent.

Seeing his reaction, her face paled a few shades. She tried to maintain her composure, keeping her

back straight, but the words that cout felt as light and feeble as the wind. One could sense the

despair and pain in her tone.

She said, “You promisedthat as long as you were satisfied, you’d help me.”

Alex had promised that he would assist her as long as she satisfied him.

Her breathing becsomewhat rapid, and she stared intently at him.

His face still didn’t show any emotion. His demeanor was cold, the top button of his shirt buttoned up,

making him appear aloof and restrained.

He glanced disinterestedly at her and sneered, “Do you think I’m satisfied?”
