Candice paused and turned to look at Alex.

In the past few days, she had been shuttling between the hospital and the villa. She hadn’t gone

anywhere else.

Nadia and Ryan took care of all the matters concerning Aether Corporation.

Alex had the top button of his shirt fastened, and he rolled up his sleeves, revealing a scar on his

arm that had turned into a pinkish mark.

Glancing briefly at the scar, Candice turned away and calmly asked, “What is it?”

This area was the villa district of Dorrington City, mostly inhabited by wealthy individuals. A couple of

days ago, when Candice and Nadia went out to buy things, they even ran into Sieg, but

he didn’t notice them.

So, Candice wasn’t surprised to encounter Alex here.

Alex’s face remained expressionless. He gazed at Candice with deep eyes. After a moment, he

sneered. “Seems like you’ve been living quite well recently.”

Thanks to Hanley and Nadia, Candice had been forced to rest these past few days. Occasionally,

Yana would deliver stew, and eating well had put smeat on Candice’s face.

However, Alex’s words were obviously not said in a friendly manner.

Candice pursed her lips and said. “Regarding your injury. I’ll compensate you for the medical

expenses.”

Alex’s eyebrow twitched, a hint of mockery appearing in his eyes. “Medical expenses?”

Today was overcast, with dark clouds pressing down on the sky, making the air heavy.

Under Alex’s gaze, Candice felt her palm sweat. “Well, and I apologize for the impact on you

caused by Yvonne and Ivor.”

“What benefit do I gain from your apology?” Alex’s cold gaze swept over her, and then he

inexplicably said, “Candice, sometimes you really are irredeemably foolish.”

foolishness.”

The emotions in Alex’s eyes instantly dissipated, and he raised his gaze to look at Helen without saying

a word.

In the evening, thunder rumbled outside, and the sky darkened ominously.

Inside the run–down motel, Yvonne was feeding soup to Peach, while Ivor’s agitated voice echoed

clearly from the bathroom.

“Can’t you givea few more days? I was even dragged into the interrogation room! Where do you

expectto find the money?!

“How would I know where that idiot ran off to!”

His voice grew increasingly irate, and in the end, he even kicked the bathroom door. However,

When Hanley returned, it happened to be raining outside.

Candice asked, “How’s the contract?”

Before Hanley could speak, Nadia sighed.

“Sonia went on a business trip yesterday. She probably gave sinstructions before leaving.

and the rest of them say they can’t make decisions on their own.”

Candice frowned. “Why not ask Sawyer?”

Sawyer was initially involved in this contract, and the procedures on his side were smooth. Candice

had originally planned to wait until Sonia left and then directly deal with Sawyer.

“He was sent on a business trip.”

The atmosphere in the room cooled down. With everyone gone, the only one left to negotiate the

contract was Alex.

Candice was considering what to say when Hanley spoke up, “We can handle the matter with Aether

Corporation. Burning Star Stuhas faced many difficulties to get to where it is today.”

Ryan nodded. “Do you know why we call it Burning Star Studio?”

He grinned. “A spark can start a prairie fire. This isn’t a big deal. We’ll figure it out.”

Candice didn’t see any inherent connection between these two matters. However, Hanley and the

others didn’t want her to get involved, so she didn’t press for more information.

Moreover, Ivor was still in Dorrington City, and she was worried that it might cause unnecessary trouble

for Hanley and the others.

However, despite her thoughts, she still went to Aether Corporation the next day.

She was about to respond when she raised her eyes and froze. “Mr. Elysian-”

Candice paused, slowly lifting her head and meeting Alex’s pitch–black eyes.

His gaze was ice–cold.

It was as if there was a massive storm brewing in them.
