The other form of the book was much more interesting than the first, with the sound of a clanging bell, the axe of broke when it came into contact with the mage's barrier. Still possessed by hatred, Max's hands charged with a red energy, the sound repeated hundreds of times as he kept attacking with one punch after another.
In Ryan's mind, there were only two possibilities for the conclusion of that confrontation. Either Ettrian would strike one last time with a supercharged attack, or the barrier would break down. The number of Max's punches kept increasing, to the point that it was no longer possible to hear the interval between the hits, it was just a single constant noise.
The sound of hundreds of shards of glass echoed through the arena, and with a single attack Ettrian was thrown far away. The intensity of the punch was so high that the elf's body only stopped when it hit the barrier separating the fight from the audience, but even after such an intense attack, the elf had a smile on his face.
But he took a leap in the air, trying to get closer to Ettrian, but a much greater spell started while he was still in the air. Before the warrior's feet hit the ground, the magician extended his arm and activated a magic circle identical to the one that had appeared in the book. The arena became completely dark, as if night had fallen on everyone watching.
All the sunlight that was coming through the sky was transferred to a single point, and with an intense flow of energy Max was thrown to the ground. The attack was not lightning, but just intense pressure that resembled gravitational magic, unable to move, a counter appeared.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtA one-minute timer started, and with each second, Max's anger increased significantly. As the light returned to the arena sky, his body rose to its feet, the moment his shoulders left the ground the timer was deactivated. Even with all that intense power holding him down, Max stood up and walked with difficulty toward Ettrian.
Even to Ryan's attentive eyes, this duel had many details and possibilities that he could not imagine. Observing Max's face, it was easy to see that fatigue was taking over his body. Maintaining a berserk skill expended considerable energy, so it was reasonable to imagine that he would collapse from exhaustion or be overwhelmed again with a magic more powerful than his endurance.
But as you watched the elf, you could see a look of discomfort in his eyes. The bandana on his forehead was sweaty and in general he also appeared to be worn out, for Ryan, the signs of fatigue were a clear demonstration of mana depletion.
Both were stuck in the limitations of using their strongest skills at the beginning of the duel. This was one of the fundamental differences between an S Rank warrior and a warrior at A Rank, the energy and opportunity management of a battle.
Had Ryan been in Ettrian's shoes, instead of using his ability to deliver a single large attack. He would have taken advantage of the sunlight to blind Max and deflect the berserker's attacks, as it was a duel between a mage in robes and a warrior in armor, it was clear that the mage would have a locomotion advantage.
Max's steps were still heavy, and although Ettrian's energy was running out, the intensity of his attack kept increasing. The sound of the metal of those black boots hitting the ground was intensifying, while the very condensed mana floor of the academy was breaking with the pressure of the footsteps and the magic that held that warrior.
The black eyes that signaled the activated berserk ability turned into ordinary brown eyes. As the transformation weakened, the very magic that held the young black haired man weakened.
In Ryan's mind, this battle was already coming to an end. Everything would depend on how Max and Ettrian's resistance would be, if the elf still possessed a little mana, he could use long distance combat to continue weakening his opponent. In Max's case, everything would depend on how he would manage his positioning and energy. The berserk ability has a high energy expenditure and usually needs to be charged with a strong intensity of emotion, so this somewhat circumvents the user's mana expenditure.
If max still had some mana left, he could easily continue that battle with quick, low-spending attacks like fireballs or fire spikes. With watchful eyes on that confrontation, Ryan was trying to visualize every second what might happen, until a strange feeling arose in his chest.
He was managing to understand the various possibilities of confrontations and finishes that that battle could possess, in one of them, Max would approach Ettrian with quick blows as if he were a puglist. In another, Ettrian stored his energy and created mirrors of light, imitating the duel Ryan had had a short time ago.
Unlike visualizations, all those possibilities were real. It took him a while to understand what was happening, but the Chrono Sight ability had finally activated. Ryan was having an intense headache, while his eyes worked intensely, moving from side to side with high speed. With each second, several possibilities of futures appeared in front of Ryan's eyes, to the point that the concentration he was having disappeared.
The sound of the audience again began to echo in his ears, as he felt the warmth of a girl's hand on his shoulder. Turning around still a little dazed, he heard Alice's voice a hundred times.
"Are you okay, Ryan? Do you want me to call for help?"
"Are you okay Ryan? Are you having a bad time?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Are you okay Ryan? Did something happen?"
All these possibilities only increased the screaming pain in his mind. But all futures aligned when Ryan approached the blonde and gave her a kiss, all the possibilities for Alice Lightstone's reaction were exactly the same. She blushed, hid the happiness she was feeling, and said she was worried about him.
The feeling of the headache subsided after that, and looking towards the duel it was clear what the final outcome of that battle would be. Even in the midst of so many versions of the duel, the one that emerged as the final one would make Ettrian the winner of that confrontation.
