184 Older Than Siji
(Jane’s PoV)
People said to be careful with what we were hoping for, for whatever it was, it could turn into reality.
Two seconds had not passed since I wished that I could see a red Kuntilanak. I would never thought that I would really see one.
Across the river, a Kuntilanak in red was flying slowly and stopping on top of a big stone. Since it was pretty dark and only the light from the moon was illuminating the river, the red color of her outfits felt extremely out of place and stood out in the darkness.
I guessed the perimeter Tom talked about didn’t include the other side of the river.
Just like the other Kuntilanak, this one was also ugly with messy hair. Instead of white clothes, this one was wearing red dress. When the wind blew, a slight trace of blood invaded my nose which answered another of my question.
Why was it red?
Turned out it was dyed red of blood. It could be her blood, or other people’s blood. Unless I saw her memory, I wouldn’t know whose blood it was.
I was able to see it pretty clearly despite the distance and the darkness because it was twice bigger than usual Kuntilanak. Like, she was really big. Not human kind of big, but she was oddly big.
.....
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAnd yes, I was not the only one who saw her since Tom and Sanji were watching her closely, too.
However, this scene was a bit funny for me to remember. Normal people would shout in fear, or run for their lives when they saw her. Least they could do was to enter the tent in a group and locked themselves in. There was no way they could sit calmly while sipping tea, coffee, milk, or warm water like we did.
Instead of freaking out, we watched the Kuntilanak as if we were only watching a movie.
“It’s red Kuntilanak.” Tom said calmly.
“I heard this kind of ghost is pretty easy to find in the area.” Sanji replied.
“Really? Why?” Tom looked at him curiously. I didn’t say anything, but I was curious, too.
Sanji shrugged his shoulders. “No idea.”
We turned our heads back to watch the red Kuntilanak again. She must have sensed that someone, or rather three people were watching her. Her glowing red eyes looked straight at us and she let out a shrill scream that I assumed was for scaring and intimidating us.
Indeed, she was scary. But after having met all of those kinds of ghosts, shadows, and other astral entities, she was not that scary.
Red Kuntilanak was a bit different from the usual Kuntilanak I met. Some of red Kuntilanaks were able to intimidate other creatures for they possessed a huge amount of grievances and resentment before they died. It could also be because of they had been used for evil deeds that they could possess that terrifying power.
However, some red Kuntilanaks were just ordinary Kuntilanaks in red.
The one in front us, she was one of the powerful red Kuntilanaks. How powerful she was, I didn’t know.
“Just go! We have nothing do with you!” Tom waved his hand as he shouted towards the Kuntilanak casually. He said it as if he was just shooing a bug.
Ah, it was rude to laugh, don’t laugh, Jane.
I took a small sip of my warm water to hide my laugh. What were we doing? When other people would run away at the sight of this ghost, we just casually shooed her away.
Apparently, this ghost was not a smart one. She must have thought that we were just brave people who had no ability to confront her. Probably with that assumption, she charged towards us while letting out high-pitch laughing.
“Fool.” Sanji took a sip of his coffee calmly.
Before she could reach us, one of my white-clothed army appeared and blocked her way. I didn’t know whether that man was too powerful, or that Kuntilanak was too weak, but with just a mere blocking, she was thrown back even further away while screaming so loud I was sure the whole forest heard her.
“Wow, that’s a Home Run.” I chuckled as my eyes followed the curve she was flying off. “Good job!” I raised my thumb up towards the one who had just thrown the Kuntilanak away.
That man bowed down before he disappeared, hiding behind the trees again. Honestly, that was an unforeseen experience. Even though I still saw a red Kuntilanak, but I obviously didn’t foresee that she would get thrown away like that.
Well, she was like a bully who picked the wrong victims.
After that, it returned to its peaceful atmosphere. No one talked about the red Kuntilanak, as if she had never been there.
I also returned to my stars seeing activity. No one talked during this time and I didn’t feel awkward at all. Only after several minutes passed, Tom’s voice broke the silence.
“Are you sure you’re okay, Jane?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmI looked at him. It took me several seconds to understand that he was referring to where I was unconscious. I couldn’t tell him what I saw, though.
“I’m sure. Maybe I just used too much of my energy.” I reasoned with him.
Tom and Sanji exchanged meaningful glances, but I didn’t know what that meant. Even so, I ignored them. It was easier to do rather than to confront what they had in mind.
“You know you can always talk about anything to us, right?” Sanji chimed in.
I faked a smile. I really couldn’t smile like I usually did hearing their heartwarming words of assurance. “Of course.”
They must have seen through my fake smile because the frown between their thick eyebrows grew even deeper. Even so, they didn’t say anything. At this moment I chose to return to my tent, to avoid any more questions coming from them.
I’m sorry, Tom, Sanji. I can’t share what I saw with you, lest you feel disgusted with it.
The next morning, we continued our search. As we passed the safe area and crossed the line, I could feel something was different. Just one step into the area and I could feel the different sensation and pressure.
I took a deep breath and looked around me. The pressure was different but why couldn’t I see any astral beings here? I couldn’t find anything, but I clearly felt the pressure of their kind in this area.
Huff... I exhaled in a puff. Both Sanji and Tom looked cautious, but for me, even if the pressure was a bit strong, I couldn’t detect any bad intention in the pressure. Instead, the pressure was to keep the other entities to behave themselves.
“Pardon us, Elder” I said softly and as polite as I could. I couldn’t see it didn’t mean it wasn’t there, right? Since I couldn’t see it, I would just have to attract it to me.
Not that I wanted to fight it, no. I wasn’t mad to the point I wanted to challenge every one. Even though I was able to fight and I had much power, I didn’t want to provoke every entity to save me some energy. After all, dealing with the crazy shadows was enough troublesome for me.
The air shifted and I realized why I couldn’t see it. It was because it was so big. It had even melded with the forest so well that it was hard for me to spot it if not for the air shifted right in front of my eyes. Whatever this thing was... it must have been older than Siji.
