Chapter 69: So You Can See Them

As soon as I finished muttering, there was movement from the black shadow in my hand. Turning my head to look at it, I found it started to take a shape.

The black shadow in my hand changed into a cold pale arm with long and slender fingers. If only the nails on those fingers were not freaking long, I would have been jealous to the owner of those beautiful fingers.

As I saw the hair seemed messy, my heart thumped loudly. She wouldn’t show me her scary appearance, would she?

She did exactly like what I had been avoiding for.

I took a quick deep breath when I saw her ghastly appearance; it was an ugly black face with a pair of red eyes opened wide.

“Damn!” I cursed as I turned my face not to look at her.

As if her scary face was not enough, she let out a shrill laugh which successfully made me having a bad goosebumps all over my body.

.....

“Damn it! Stop laughing! Don’t you know you’re ugly?!” I scolded her as I rubbed my arms repeatedly. “With how you look and how you laugh, do you think Mr. Sanjaya will like you? Dream on! He would never turn to look at you!”

When I heard the laughter stopped, I knew I talked about the right thing. But then, I was stunned when the laughter turned into weeping. I thought that a Kuntilanak’s laughter was the scariest, but at this precise time, I changed my mind. Their weeping sound was even scarier!!!

“W-why are you crying?” I stared at the ugly face in front of me in disbelief. I forgot the fear I was feeling when I looked at her face.

“Jane, you cruel!” Kunti said in disappointed tone. “How could you say that thing so lightly? Even though we are ghost, our hearts are as fragile as human!”

Fragile, my a*s!!!

I really had the urge to curse out loud, but after something reminded me that getting into trouble involving these creatures were worse than with human.

So, I swallowed those words back, hard.

Disguising my irritation by pinching the bridge of my nose, I composed myself and asked Kunti. “Does she really like Sanjaya?”

“I do! I do, I do, I do!” The other ghost replied, half-screaming her answer with aggrieved tone.

I was taken aback with her enthusiastic yet sad answer. She cried even harder and I was sure I had dumbfounded look on my face. What’s with this situation?

Kunti sighed. “She fell too deep.” She said as she shook her head.

I scratched my not-itchy head as I watched the weeping ghost cried to her heart content. But, I was not really good at consoling others, let alone a ghost, nor I was patient. After several minutes, I turned back and walked away, leaving the still crying ghost. I still had other things to do, I really had no time to console this heartbroken ghost.

Matters that I wanted to ask her before, I pushed that in the back of my head.

“Where are you going?”Kunti floated behind me.

“My class.” I replied without looking at her.

“Oh.” Kunti replied. “Then, I’m going.”

“Take your senior away.” I waved goodbye at her, reminding her on her way back to take the weeping ghost with her.

I didn’t bother to look back but from the gradually disappearing cry, I knew that Kunti had dragged her senior away. I let out a sigh of relief. I walked back into the building, searching for my classmates. After what had happened, I doubted the class would continue. Not to mention there were several others that got possessed. I wondered how they were doing.

Frantic steps were heard through the hallway, followed by some chattering.

“Did you find her? No?! Okay.”

It seemed like this person was on the phone. From the sound of the footsteps, I could make out the number of people; probably two or three of them.

As I finally saw these people, they happened to see me, too. Their steps became faster.

“There she is!” One of them shouted.

They are looking for me?

Unconsciously I stopped walking and stared at them. Not until they were pretty close then I recognized them as my classmates.

“Jane! Thank God, we found you!” One of them, Elisa, shouted at me. There was a hint of relief in her voice.

“Are you looking for me? Why?” I asked the three of them in confusion. During the commotion in class just now, these three were the strong ones. No black shadow could approach them.

“Come, follow us! Mr. Sanjaya is looking for you.” Without explaining more, I was pulled to their pace and I had no choice but to follow them.

During our way there, they provided me with some information of what was going on. Apparently, some of them witnessed the moment I pulled out the ghost from Cindy’s body -without seeing the ghost, of course -and thought I did something to Cindy. But, after Cindy was conscious, she said that I pulled the one that invaded herself. Also, the people who got possessed increased. There were total of five people as we spoke and I couldn’t help but widen my eyes at the number. No wonder the faculty was strangely quiet, saved from one place –the hall.

As soon as I reached the hall, there were quiet a number of people had gathered there. With the number of people increased, the number of black shadows tempted by the negative vibes increased, too. Suddenly, I felt an upcoming headache.

“Ask them to disperse the crowd. If they keep gathering here, there will be more people got possessed.” I said to Elisa.

Elisa nodded as she approached one of our male classmates. Some of them got up and worked together to disperse the crowd, and some of them stayed to restrain the possessed ones. The screams and growls filled the hall and it created an image of apocalypse where zombies and human were fighting.

What am I thinking? I shook my head slightly.

As I stepped into the hall, my eyes met the figure in the middle of this commotion; Sanji. Besides him was Miss Rianti. Both of them frowned as they looked at the possessed students in front of them.

“Ah, she is here.” Miss Rianti was the one who noticed me first. She was frowning but a hint of relief could be seen from her eyes.

“Miss, Sir.” I greeted at them.

Sanji stared at me, probably probing me from what he heard from Miss Rianti. I guessed Miss Rianti had told him what had happened in the class.

“So you can see them.” He said. It was not a question. It was a statement.

I blinked. “Not really.”
