Chapter 94
"The t| spent locked behind bars felt a little deserving toand it was nothing compared to the torment |
had to deal with." Sylvie was almost struggling to breath. If he kept up with the topic, she wasn't sure how much
longer she could hold it in. More tears coursed down her cheeks, but this time, they weren't for her own sorrows
anymore.
Just as much as it had been the worst night for Kage, it was also hers. But he didn't know that, and hopefully, he
never will. Kage felt a shudde e through his shoulders at the recollection of the ugly past. It was one of the few
moments when he was truly weak; vuli

Marilyn had been his cousin. She was the only relative he'd been close to in the family, and they weren't just
close; they were best friends. They'd grown to have an extremely tight bond from childhood and back then, a life
without her had seemed impossible. But he killed her. He was a monster.
"It waa my fault," his brows gathered in a frown as he mumbled the words, more to himself. "| killed her."
Sylvie's heart twisted painfully in her chest. Looking at him, she reached out and held his hand, giving it a little
squeeze. "No, you didn't."
"I gave her the drink," Kage hardly heard her; couldn't even feel her hand holding his. "It was... It was poisoned.
If she hadn't taken it..."
He closed his eyes, dealing with the next wave of shiver that crushed him.
it,
Marilyn had been allergic to Nuxine. It was poisonous to her, hence, the family always avoided giving her
anything similar to it. But that night, she had consumed a good quantity of it from the juice pack Kage had given
to her. It was his and he was supposed to have taken but when when she showed up and asked, of course he
didn't hesitate giving it to her. Yet, that was the worst mistake of his life.
Half an hour later, Marilyn reacted. That time, they had been at the highschool camp, and unfortunately, the

By the tthey were able to get her to a hospital, it had gotten really bad. She was unconscious for days,
suffering. Everyone hoped she'd survive it, but on the fourth day, she was gone.
Kage remembered how much it had broken him. He'd lost his mind and cried the hardest.
Her family blamed and
accused him for it. They got him arrested, leading to his one year stay in jail. It was through a lot of connections
and court cases that he was finally set free with his innocence proven. But sometimes, Kage wished he'd
remained in jail. He didn't know how Nuxine had gotten into the drink. It was probably injected, but none of it
mattered to Kage. She died in his arms, and that was all that mattered.
"It wasn't your fault, Kage." There was a tremor in Sylvie's voice. Her hand holding his trembled. "You loved
Marilyn, always remember that."
Guilt stabbed at her, making it almost impossible for her to breath.
God, she hated Lancelot, and for the she time, and wished he had ended up dead when he got shot in the head.
Kage wasn't the only suffering. For ten years, Sylvie had had to live with the guilt of what happened to Marilyn. It
was memories like that that made her think she didn't deserve to be with Kage."

But what could she do now that her heart had helplessly fallen for him? just like Marilyn, living without him

Tana opened the door to a furious Kage.
He wasn't the type that went all yelling when angry. He was usually very collected, but the look of death in his
face was what made others know he was damn angry. "Sh... She's upstairs, sir."

He waited for her to descend.
"I was expecting you." She almost drawled the words, her fingers brushing through her messy hair.
Kage slid his hands into his pockets, willing himself to remain calm. "Why did you do it?" "Do what?"
Do what?
He took a deep breath. "Yesterday. What you did to Sylvie in public was uncalled for, Lana."
She scoffed, crossing her hands. "Seriously? Was there even a part of it that hadn't been true? She ruined my
engagement, sway her mother almost-"
"Enough, Lana!" He growled. "Look, | only chere 'cause | wanted to make this as clearly as possible. Sylvie
never ruined us. | left you because it was my decision. So, yesterday should be the last tyou ever go after
her like that because guess what, it's never going to make a difference. It's never makingcback to you."
His words sliced through Lana like a blade. Her eyes glared daggers at him until they eree glistening with tears.
"Well, you didn't have to come," she smiled, although the pain in her eyes said otherwise. "A text would've
sufficed. | already know she's your precious lady, so I'd have understood how serious the text was."
She moved to the refrigerator, grabbing a bottle of water. But her breath already reeked of alcohol. Even from
the way she walked, Kage could tell she was tipsy. He had glanced at the wine counter when he arrived and
confirmed there was no alcohol in it. But obviously, it wasn't enough to stop Lana from drinking.
"| really wouldn't want to hurt you, Lana," he spoke calmly, but the underlying threat in his words was clear. "So,
please don't make me. | need you to stay away from Sylvie." She cursed.
Lana chuckled, her back to him as
she stood in front of the refrigerator.

She sank her fingers into her hair. Oh, God. She needed more booze.

She turned with a small start and found her on the staircase.
