Chapter 170
She got no sleep at all the day before yesterday, and she could not sleep last night either because of
what had happened to her grandmother. At that moment, she felt as if her steps were so light that she
was merely gliding across the floor.
She had been walking for a while when someone bumped into her shoulder. The next moment, she
staggered and fell to the ground right away. Fortunately, her clothes had been thick enough to pad her
fall, so it didn’t hurt much.
Just as she was about to struggle het way up onto her feet again, someone swiftly rushed over to her
side and helped her up.
She turned to that person and realized that it was Peter.
“How did you…”
“I parked my car by the side of the road,” He explained. “I think I’d better drive you home, after all.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAlthough she had refused his offer earlier, he was still too concerned about her that he had to follow
behind her in his car.
“No, it’s fine. I can walk home by myself.”
“But someone merely brushed past you just now and you fell flat to the ground. How can I just let you
go home alone? Come on, my car’s parked by the road. If the police find it, I’ll be fined!”
Seeing that he would not take no for an answer, Serenity sighed and followed him into his car.
Peter then started the engine and drove off toward Serenity’s place.
“You don’t need to worry.” He assured her in earnest. “I just want to take you home. I don’t expect
anything from you in return at all. I know I’m just an ordinary guy and I can’t compare with your ex-
boyfriend, but I’m just afraid that something might happen to you on your way back, so I wanted to
drive you home. That way, I be sure that you’ll get home safe.”
“Thank you,” she said. In truth, her life in the past was nothing more than a dream to her now. In her
current situation, it was she who was not a suitable match for others. Who in their right mind would
marry a woman who had been in prison before?
“I saw you getting into a Porsche two days ago.” Peter mentioned with hesitation. “If you’ve found
someone much better than me, then I’m… I’m happy for you, but I… I’m just worried that you’re being
tricked or manipulated, so I think you should really consider it before y
you…”
“That man wasn’t my date,” She interrupted him. “I just found his belonging and returned it to him, so
he treated me to a meal as a way to thank me.”
“Oh,” he uttered. A look of hope soon arose on his face.
After only a short while, the car reached the small neighborhood where Serenity lived.
“Peter,” she said, turning to him, “You’re a good guy, but I’m not suitable for you. Stop wasting your time
on me. I’m sure you’ll find someone much better than me in the future!”
–
“But you’re more than good enough for me,” he argued, his face flustered. “I can wait until you….”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSerenity gritted her teeth and told him, “But it’s just as you said. My ex–boyfriend was a really rich man.
If I were to be married, I’d find someone at least as good as him or I’d rather stay single forever, so we
really are not suitable for each other, do you understand?”
Chap 170
Perhaps saying these harsh words was the only way she could make him give up on her. It might hurt
him now, but at least she would not be dragging it out by being blunt with him now. Peter was a good
man. If he was not so insistent or waiting for her, Serenity would never have chosen to do this.
Disappointment was written all over Peter’s face as he stared stiffly at Serenity.
“Well, I’m getting out of the car now. Thank you for driving me home, but you don’t have to do it any
more next time.”
After speaking, she opened the door and stepped out of the car, then walked straight through the
entrance of her apartment complex.
She could hear the sound of a car engine starting behind her, followed by the sound of it driving away.
