Chapter 389
Perhaps there was more to the story than a simple car accident. Lucas pondered in silence and
laughed to himself. The only fatality from the car accident was Mira Hall, Jackson’s flancee. Yet,
Serenity and Jackson were dating today.
If it really were a plot to remove Mira from the picture, then Jackson would have investigated the
matter. Why was he being so worked up about it?
It’s just that…
“When did Serenity start working at your shop?” asked Lucas not of the blue.
“Huh?” Even Clara was surprised by his question. After a moment, she answered, “I guess about half a
month ago? She’s helping us with order deliveries ”
“How is she as a worker?” inquired Luca
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“She’s pretty good. Serenity’s a diligent worker and rarely messes up our orders. I’ve never heard her
complain about being tired…”
As Clara spake about Serenity, Lucas propped up his face and wore an intrigued expression. His lips
were curled into a smile, and there was a renewed gentle look on his face compared to before.
This caught Clara by surprise. Could it be that Lucas was… but how was this possible!? Being the
prince of the showbiz industry, he was constantly surrounded by all sorts of beautiful ladies.
Serenity, on the other hand, was a plain Jane who rarely wore makeup or dressed up for work. Her
hands were rough and
calloused, which indicated the sort of work she was typically engaged with
These two people were from seemingly different worlds. If she hadn’t seen them talking in a small
restaurant, who would have thought Lucas was acquainted with Serenity?
After Clara answered his question about Serenity working at her store, Lucas shifted his attention back
to her. “You’re saying she had just come out of prison when she applied to work at your shop? Why did
you accept her application? Aren’t you afraid that she’ll cause trouble, given her background?”
Clara flashed a bitter smile at him. “I guess it’s because I was in the same position as her, so I could
empathize with her.”
Placing herself in Serenity’s shoes, she could tell that she desperately needed a job.
“Empathy huh…”
Lucas murmured to himself. After a moment, he turned to Clara and said, “Alright, I’ll help you. At the
very least, I won’t tell Wilson that I saw you. Even so, I can’t guarantee someone else won’t tell him
about it.”
For Clara, this promise was more than enough.
“Thank you, Mr. Gomez. Thank you,.” Clara thanked him repeatedly. Her intuizzon told her that
“empathy” was what convinced the prince of the showbiz industry to help her.

Clara’s eyes. She wondered if this would turn out to be good or detrimental for Serenity.
After all, she was in this exact position before. From the time they spent together, Clara started to view
Serenity as more than a mere employee. She was a friend.
Perhaps her fare would change if she involved herself further with Lucas. Whether she would be happy
in the future was… still hard to say.
Around noon, Grayson received a call from the landlord of the room he was renting. He was informed
that someone had entered the place, which shocked him. With an anxious voice, he asked, “Who was
it? I’m a tenant here! How could you open the door without asking me first?!”

The landlord responded angrily. “I can’t believe your audacity! I allowed you to rent this place for
yourself, not to store a dead person’s ashes! Thanks to you, the police investigated my place and
they’re now demanding me to renovate it because of regulations! I’ll have you know, you won’t be
getting your deposit back Not a single cent!”
