Chapter 622
Clara could not afford to take the slightest risk. She simply could not lose Yanny because Yanny had become the
only reason she kept on living!
Serenity knew that this was not the kind of matter she could meddle with as an outsider, so she could only simply
suggest, “If you ever need my help. I’m always here for you, okay?”
“Thanks!” Clara smiled. “Actually, you’ve been helping me a lot, you know. Without you, perhaps Yanny might never
be able
to…”
Just then, a man barged into the restaurant and cut off what Clara was going to say.
Lucas had just rushed in and was almost out of breath as he grabbed Serenity’s wrist, to the shock of Clara and

Serenity was stunned. They had not publicly announced this yet, and she had only talked to Lisa and Clara about it.
“Yes,” she answered firmly.
“Why?”
“Because I love him,” she replied, calmly looking at him, “and he loves me too, so there’s nothing surprising about
us marrying each other. Please let go of my hand, Mr. Gomez!”
Fortunately, it was late in the evening and almost closing time, so there were very few customers in the restaurant,
otherwise, Lucas’s sudden appearance might cause a commotion again.
“You love him?” Lucas asked, feeling like someone had just stabbed his heart over and over again. The pain was so
unbearable that it almost choked him. “But back then you told me that you’d be with me forever!”
Serenity’s brows furrowed. She stared at him in confusion and argued, “I never said such a thing!”
“You did!” he countered. “Back then, you told me you meant nothing to anyone, but I said you were wrong,
because you’re very important to me. Then you told me that it would be great if you could be with me forever!”
He was repeating the words they had said to each other all those years ago. It was the first time he had ever said
such things to anyone because back then, he did not think that anyone was important to him, not even his parents.
Yet when he saw her lonely and forlorn, somehow it made him blurt out those words without even thinking.
And then, when she had smiled, her smile was so beautiful that it had been deeply engraved in his memories ever
since then.
When she told him that it would be great if she could be with him forever, his first thought was that if he could be
with her, his days would never be dull or boring again.
Because he wanted to see her beautiful smile every day.
Serenity frowned even more deeply now. She meant nothing to anyone… She had certainly felt that way when she

Although her grandma was kind to her, everyone else treated her as if she was an inconvenience and a burden.
She could easily sense this because all children were very sensitive to the way adults regarded them.
In fact, she had once even thought how great it would be if she could follow her mother to heaven!
But she did not remember saying all these things to Lucas before! Perhaps it was all just a coincidence!
“I told you before, Mr. Gomez. You’ve got the wrong person.”
“But I’m sure that I got it right!” Lucas insisted, “Serenity, please don’t marry Jackson! I don’t know why you
wouldn’t admit that you met me before. Is it because of Jackson? Or have you forgotten all about it? But I’ve been
searching for you all these years, and ever since we last separated, not a day go that I don’t think of you…..”
As he murmured those words, he raised a hand to try to touch her face. He wanted to tell her how much he missed
her and how much he regretted letting go of her hand so easily back then at the hospital.
But she swiftly turned her face away, leaving his hand touching nothing but the empty air.
