Chapter 688
There were already a lot of people gathered around Serenity, but because of his shout, even more were coming
over.
With a slight frown, Lucas led Serenity to a car that was parked nearby and drove away after they got into the car.
The gathered crowd could only stare as the car drove off. They started to gossip about the relationship between
Serenity and
Lucas.
In the car, Serenity told Lucas, “Thanks for that. You can just put me down somewhere nearby.”
However, Lucas did not stop the car. Instead, he asked, “What happened back there?”
“A stranger recognized me. After all, my successful appeal became a hot topic online because of Jenny’s apology,”
Serenity said, “Can you stop the car here and let me out? My friend is still in the bookstore. I have to meet up with
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇther!”
Lucas pursed his lips lightly. Eventually, he stopped the car at the side of the road.
When Serenity tried to get off the car, Lucas grabbed her arm and said, “We’re only 300 meters away from the
bookstore, so if you get off now, those people earlier might see you and surround you again. You should call your
friend and ask her to meet you here.”
Serenity hesitated but nodded in the end. She looked down at Lucas‘ hand which was still holding her arm.
Lucas‘ grip tightened slightly, then slowly loosened up. After he let go, Serenity took out her phone from her bag
and called
Lisa.
“Lisa, I ran into a little trouble earlier, so I left the bookstore. I’m now about 300 meters away from the bookstore in
front of
the Radiance Tower. Can you come over…”
Meanwhile, Lucas stared at Serenity, lost in thought.
Earlier, when he drove past, he immediately recognized her among the crowd. It’s funny how he could notice her at
a glance. even though she was merely standing there in the crowd.
Every time he saw her, he would lose control of his eyes, his heart, and the blood that flowed in his veins.
At first, he thought she was the person he was looking for. He thought she would not be able to deny it any more
once he found proof! But the more he searched for evidence, the more the evidence showed that it was someone
else.
The woman he should be treasuring was Lynette, not Serenity!
Even though he told himself that over and over again, when he saw Serenity in trouble, he still immediately got out
of the car
and went over to help her.
The empty feeling in his hand kept getting stronger!
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLucas slowly retracted his hand and let it hang by his side. “When are you and Jackson getting married? I’ll
definitely attend the marriage with a generous gift. You’re Lynette’s cousin after all.”
Serenity replied, “Probably next year. I want to mourn my grandmother for a year first.” After a slight pause, she
added, “To be honest, you don’t have to treat me differently just because of Lynette. Lynette and I may be cousins,
but we’re not that close. I don’t think I’ve ever helped her in any way.”
Lucas‘ lips almost pursed into a straight line. An awkward silence filled the car.
Lucas‘ eyes eventually landed on the two law–related books resting on her thighs. “You want to practice law again?”
“I’m thinking about it, but I don’t know if I can still do it,” answered Serenity. However, the desire in her eyes
betrayed how much she wanted to become a lawyer again.
Lucas fell into a trance. The person in front of him was obviously not the girl he was looking for, but why did she
look so much like “her“? The look in her eyes right now reminded him so strongly of the look in “her” eyes back
then.
Back then, “she” told him with a serious look in her eyes, “I have the best grades in my class. My grandmother said
you can
only get the job you want if you have good grade”
