Chapter 11: Friends [Pt 1]
[7:47 AM; Sunday, 30th of April, 2023]
Lisa Scofield let out a deep sigh, the sound echoing in the quiet hallway as she closed the door behind her.
Her conflicted expression revealed the inner turmoil she was wrestling with, a delicate frown tugging at the corners of her charming face.
"It's for the best. It's what everyone decided," she murmured to herself, though doubt gnawed at the edges of her conviction.
Deep down, Lisa knew she could never have made such a horrific decision on her own.
She had been in constant telepathic contact with her friends throughout her time with Mikey.
She had shared her thoughts with them, and they had unanimously agreed on the grave decision she now had to undertake.
Lisa couldn't help but wonder if it was truly the right course of action, but she also understood the grim odds of survival if she didn't follow this path.
'Besides… that 'Guiding Thought' has never been wrong, has it?'
Ever since her awakening and the mysterious Status Window, Lisa had gained the eerie and unsettling ability to hear the thoughts of the people around her in the dimly lit hotel.
She had, in turn, borne witness to the chilling, haunting final thoughts of those unfortunate souls who had tragically perished within these walls, their memories etching themselves into her consciousness.
Furthermore, she had sensed the palpable fear that radiated from those few who had miraculously survived the inexplicable horrors that had unfolded. This newfound power was not a gift, but a curse, and it had instilled in her a deep, gnawing terror, one that relentlessly whispered that she, too, might ultimately succumb to the unforgiving chaos and death that gripped her surroundings.
That was until she heard the soothing guidance of the 'Guiding Thought.'
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIts identity remained a mystery, but its presence comforted her. It assured her that everything would be okay and provided clear instructions on what to do.
It had taught her how to harness her Skill to communicate with those nearby and use them as bait to distract the menacing Demons that lurked nearby.
It was this guidance that had enabled her to escape their clutches and make it to the first floor, where she had met Mikey.
When the Demon had pounded on the door, nearly grabbing the attention of others of its kind, Lisa had reached out to it for help. It had guided her to convince another survivor to come out from their suite, effectively diverting the Demon's attention and allowing her to escape unscathed.
Her survival thus far was owed entirely to the mysterious 'Guiding Thought.' It was this unseen force that had given her the strength to make the difficult decisions and also laid the groundwork for her current plan.
"I still don't know who they are, but..." Lisa made up her mind to push aside thoughts of Mikey and her regrets, focusing solely on the task at hand.
First things first… she needed to use her actual Skill.
"<Mind Link>"
In the blink of an eye, a mental connection wove through Lisa's consciousness, linking her to all four of her friends.
"Alright, guys. I've got him secured. I'll use my ability to sense the approaching Demons and guide each of you safely to this room. Remember the plan, stick to the details as closely as possible."
The static in her mind transformed into distinct voices, and the sounds of relief from her friends resonated within her.
~For real? Sweet!~ cried out an unmistakably masculine voice, laced with an enthusiasm that cut through the tension.
~You did great, Lisa. Thank you so much~ a more subdued and composed voice echoed in her thoughts, carrying with it a sense of gratitude that warmed her heart.
~We can finally leave this place. Thank Goodness…~ Yet another friend's fleeting thought was heard.
~Thanks, Lisa. We're counting on you.~ The final voice chimed in, their tone resolute.
Lisa took a brief moment to absorb their responses, a smile of relief gracing her face before she let out a heavy sigh, the gravity of the task at hand sinking in.
"Alright, then. Let's get started."
Her mission was simple, yet complex. The lives of her friends were hanging in the balance, and she was their only hope—their guide.
'I have to do this! No room for mistakes!' Her resolve surged as she committed herself to the task at hand, her determination unwavering.
As heartless as she could be to strangers, her love and devotion to this small circle of friends knew no bounds. They were her anchor in this chaos, the reason she kept pushing forward.
"Lorna. Lily. Kame... and Jake. Don't you worry! I'll protect you, no matter what!"
In the end, amidst the madness surrounding them, the paramount goal was simple: the survival of herself and her cherished loved ones. Nothing else mattered.
