Chapter 100 Emma and Wesley continued to discuss the script over dinner. She found that there was a lot of merit
to Quincy‘s suggestions.
Quincy‘s understanding and discernment of the plot and story development truly befitted his status as
an award–winning actor. Emma felt she had a lot to learn from him.
They were nearly done with dinner by the time they finished discussing everything.
Wesley glanced at Emma before saying with a serious expression, “Let me ask you something.”
“What is it?” Emma asked, confused.
“If Trevor wanted to get back with you, would you say yes?” Wesley queried.
“That‘s impossible,” Emma declared at once. “He won‘t want to get back with me.”
Emma believed that Trevor despised her, and their divorce had set him free. There was no way he
would want to resume their relationship.
She never even considered such a possibility
“What‘s your take on him coming over today with a bouquet of flowers?” Wesley asked.
Emma‘s brows furrowed as she gave it some thought. “Didn‘t you say that Crystal wants the second
female lead role? He probably came to put in a good word for her.”
Wesley was taken aback by her answer, but he soon broke out into hearty laughter.
If this was how Emma viewed Trevor, then it would not be easy for Trevor to try and win her back, if
that was his intention.
In Emma‘s eyes, she and Trevor were never ever getting back together
When it came down to it, this was solely due to how deeply hurt she was by Trevor‘s behavior toward
her in the past. He had destroyed all chances of her ever thinking that he would care for her.
Emma was dead serious as she said, “I used to be so immature. I thought that a sincere heart was
enough to make a relationship last, but I‘ve now realized that it takes two people‘s efforts to maintain a
relationship.”
“Now that I think about it, Trevor‘s not someone suited for marriage at all. He won‘t
be able to maintain a long–term relationship.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTrevor was self–centered and domineering. He was proud and full of himself.
He did not know how to be pleasant to someone else. He certainly did not know how to take care of
them or show them concern. In the past, whenever they were in conflict, she had to be the one who
made the effort to accommodate him, or otherwise, he would shut her out with his silence to the bitter
end.
Emma now realized how tiring it was to be with someone like that.
Was there anyone who did not want to feel loved and cherished?
Was there anyone who did not want their spouse to shower them with affection?
When Emma recalled the three years she spent with Trevor, she could not think of any fond memories.
It all felt like a nightmare.
Wesley was surprised by how level–headed she was about the past. He nodded in agreement and
said, “We all learn from our mistakes. It‘s good that you put a stop to it once you came to the
realization.”
“It might be rude of me 10 say this, but if someone offered me 10 million to marry Trevor, I would still
refuse without question,” Emma commented with a smidge of self–ridicule.
Even if someone held a gun to her head, she would still refuse to marry him.
A marriage like that was a fate worse than death.
Wesley laughed once more. He could not hide how genuinely happy he was. Emma‘s words thoroughly
amused him.
If Trevor knew that this was what Emma thought now, he might get an aneurysm.
Wesley recalled a line from a famous movie that he thought seemed rather fitting for Trevor‘s situation.
He had not cherished his opportunity for true love that had been right in front of him, only to regret it
when it was too late. This was one of the most painful experiences in a person‘s life.
Now that they were done with their discussion, Wesley took an invitation card out of his bag and
passed it over to Emma. “The Film Association is having a charity dinner this weekend. I want you to
attend it with me.”
“Since you‘re well on the road to becoming a full–time screenwriter now, you need to start building your
network and gaining connections in the industry.” Emma was touched by how thoughtful and sincere
Wesley was as he shared his advice.
“Thank you.” She look the invitation from him.
Wesley was right. During her three–year marringe lo ‘Trevor, she was a full–time housewife who barely
socialized with the outside world.
She then spent a year studying overseas, so now that she came back to the country and entered the
industry, she needed to start mingling with her fellow professionals and build up her network.
It was not something she was good at, but she had to force herself to get used to it.
Wesley noticed her nervousness and he spoke gently as he comforted her. “You don‘t need to feel too
anxious about it. Just stay beside me and everything will be fine.”
He chuckled and added, “You‘re new to the industry, so no one expects you to be too forward cither.
Just take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with everyone.”
“Alright.” Emma nodded. She sword to herself to make sure that she gave others a good impression,
lest il reflected badly on Wesley.
Wesley sighed to himself. She had been Mi‘s. Bateson for three whole years. If Trevor had bothered to
bring her along to a few events, she would not be as anxious as she was right now.
Now that everything was settled, Wesley took his leave. Emma tidied up the place and took a shower
before diving back into her script to make some changes.
After leaving in a fit of rage, Trevor called Zachary and dragged him out of his dinner party.
Kaleb was there too, so Zachary dragged him out as well, and the three men met up at one of
Zachary‘s restaurants.
When it came time to order, the image of Wesley stepping out of Emma‘s kitchen with an apron tied
around his waist Nashed across Trevor‘s mind, and his mood turned sour yet again. He tossed the
menu aside in a huff.
“You know, I think your mood swings are getting pretty bad. I hear that it‘s a sign of someone going
through a midlife crisis,” Zachary teased.
Trevor rolled his eyes. Who the f*ck is going through a midlife crisis? Keep quiet if you don‘t have
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmanything nice to say.
Zachary and Kaleb ignored Trevor‘s foul mood as they cheerily placed their orders.
Trevor lit a cigarette and bit down on it as he muttered viciously, “What goes on inside a man‘s head if
he‘s the type that‘s willing to cook?”
Zachary did not even bother to look up as he replied, “Some of them do it because their standards are
too high and they won‘t be satisfied by anyone else‘s cooking, so they decide to cook themselves, such
as me.”
“Some just consider cooking as a kind of hobby, or even a way to destress, like me,” Kaleb added with
a smile.
Trevor glowered at both of them. Their comments, one after the other, made it seem like he was
useless for not knowing how to cook
“Why are you asking us this all of a sudden?” Kaleb asked.
Once Trevor filled them in on how he saw Wesley cooking for Emma at her house, Zachary chortled so
hard, his whole body was shaking.
Kaleb tried to resist his urge to laugh as he said, “You just slammed the door and left? Isn‘t that a little
rude?”
Trevor hmphed haughtily. He was blinded by rage at the time, so why would he care about being rude?
When Zachary finally stopped laughing, he questioned Trevor, “Why do you hate cooking?”
Trevor let out a puff of smoke before declaring in disdain, “My time is precious. Why should I waste it
on cooking when I can be working instead?”
“It‘s also extremely uncomfortable to have food smells clinging onto my clothes.” Trevor was both a
clean freak and a workaholic, so he decided to never step foot in the kitchen.
He never had to do anything like that anyway. When he was a child, Alice took care of all the meals,
and when he went overseas for his studies, he had a team of staff, including a driver, a chef, and a
housekeeper to care for all his daily needs.
Later on, he married Emma, and she was the one who handled all these finicky matters.
He never had to enter the kitchen, and he could barely remember where it was. He did not know where
any of the household items were either. |
This led to his life spiraling into an utter mess in the days after he and Emma got a divorce.
