Please Come Back, Honey! Chapter 149
Cyrus drove Emma home as planned, and because Cyrus was a talker, he and Emma had a pleasant
conversation the entire journey.
Though Cyrus and Cerys were twins, they had totally different personalities.
Cerys was serious-minded and super slow to warm up to, while Cyrus was much more outgoing and
cheerful. Hence, their jobs were completely different despite being Trevor’s personal assistants.
Cyrus would normally attend any events that needed engaging and socializing, while Cerys would only
attend on rare occasions.
Emma did a quick sorting after arriving home, and right when she was about done, she got a call from
Kaleb, who said he would come over to check out her laptop. This was a serious issue, so Emma
agreed without a second thought.
Twenty minutes later, Kaleb arrived as promised, and right now, he resembled a high-tech elite when
he had swapped his lab coat with a pair of gold-frame glasses.
After ‘operating’ on Emma’s computer like a pro, he bragged, “Here, you go, the firewall in your
computer is now as impenetrable as the Walls of Constantinople. Common hackers won’t be able to
infiltrate anymore. You can write with no worries now.”
“Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.” After some thought, Emma suggested. “That
reminds me that I still haven’t thanked Dr. Spencer properly. Why don’t I treat you two to a meal?”
She thought since Kaleb was the one who recommended Yvette to her, the two must be familiar with
each other. So it wouldn’t be a big deal if she treated both of them to a meal.
But who’d have thought Kaleb nearly spitted the water in his mouth? “Don’t! Don’t make me sit in the
same room as her.”
“Why?” Emma was baffled. “Aren’t you two colleagues? And you were the one who recommended Dr.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSpencer to me, no?”
“We’re incompatible,” Kaleb scowled.
“Oh, okay then.” Emma didn’t force it, either. “In that case, I’ll treat her some other time.”
While speaking, she grabbed her bag, planning to head out. “Since it’s noon right now, let’s go for
lunch. C’mon, my treat.”
But to her surprise, Kaleb was now behaving incongruously, unwilling to move. “When are you planning
on treating her? Let me check my schedule, lest you need to treat us individually. You’re a busy woman
too.”
Emma couldn’t help chuckling to herself, seeing that Kaleb was being all indecisive. “Just what sort of
history do you have with Dr. Spencer? The way you’re flip-flopping makes it look like you really care
about what she thinks.”
“Who cares anything about her?! Don’t be ridiculous!” Kaleb denied it in a snap.
“I heard you’ve gotten the adaptation rights to Wilson Young’s new book. So I thought I should make
things more convenient for you.” At that, he enjoined, “Give her a call first, see when she’s available.
For all we know, I might have to work overtime when she happens to be free.”
Thus, Emma could only do as he said and called Yvette.
The girls got along pretty well the last time Yvette treated Emma. “Nah, forget about treating me,” said
Yvette with a smile on the phone. “It’s our obligation and duty to serve our patients. But I remember you
telling me you know Adam Gilbert. Can you get an autograph for me?”
“Adam’s autograph? Sure, no problem—” Emma agreed at once. But before she could finish her words,
Kaleb snatched her phone away crudely, startling Emma as she watched the man roar into the phone.
“If I remember correctly, Dr. Spencer, you’re already thirty this year, aren’t you?! Don’t you think it’s
shameless for a thirty-year-old hag like you to take a fancy to a twenty-year-old young guy?!”
Meanwhile, Emma was rendered at a loss for words. Since a long time ago, she thought Trevor’s
choice of words was pretty unpleasant, and she also thought Kaleb was a calm, collected gentleman.
But who’d have thought the words he was currently using were even worse than Trevors?
It sure served Kaleb right to be single for life. What guy with a right mind would call a young woman a
thirty-year-old hag?!
Then again, Yvette didn’t seem to be upset from the sounds of it, for Emma could vaguely hear Yvette’s
chirpy retort. “What’s there to be ashamed of? Just like men like young women’s bodies, thirty-year-old
hags like young men’s bodies too.”
Flushed with rage, Kaleb ended the call right after a sneer. “Ha!”
Emma rubbed her temples and said to Kaleb, troubled. “Dr. Walsh, isn’t it inappropriate for you to do
that to Dr. Spencer? Besides, she just wants an autograph.” She stopped at that, ashamed of Kaleb for
saying such unpleasant words.
“Just an autograph? I bet she wants to hook up with that guy!” Kaleb snapped.
To that, Emma spread her hands. “Dr. Spencer’s single, isn’t she? With all due respect, even if she
wants to hook up with Adam, so what? She still doesn’t deserve to be berated like she had committed
some wretched sin, does she?”
Seeing that her calm refutes rendered Kaleb speechless, she continued, “Are you possibly exasperated
because you like Dr. Spencer?”
Emma could officially brand herself obtuse if she still couldn’t tell something was off when Kaleb was so
obviously not himself.
“I—” A hint of awkwardness flashed across the man’s dashing face as she grabbed his laptop bag,
bidding Emma goodbye. “I’m gonna go. I won’t take up any more of your time.”
“But I still have to buy you lunch.” Emma hurriedly stopped him. Dude, I’ve already grabbed my bag,
and you’re going to leave now?!
“Forget about it. This is no big deal.” Kaleb already headed out as he spoke, so Emma could only leave
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmit at that.
Since she didn’t have to treat Kaleb to lunch anymore, she didn’t want to head out anymore. So she
ordered food delivery. While waiting for her food to arrive, she gave Yvette another call.
“I’m really sorry about what happened earlier, Dr. Spencer,” Emma said apologetically. “I didn’t expect
Dr. Walsh to snatch my phone away.”
With that, she gave Yvette a brief explanation as to why Kaleb was with her. “It’s cool,” Yvette
answered nonchalantly.
After some deliberation, Emma still decided to ask, “So… You and Dr. Walsh…”
“We f*cked a few times when we were studying abroad.” Yvette related honestly, not thinking of
keeping it a secret. “I’ve long forgotten about it, but he seems to have a major problem with me.”
Emma’s mouth was agape with incredulity, having a hard time putting her thoughts into words.
Are people abroad so open that Yvette can forget about Kaleb after having a few sessions with him?
Also, Kaleb isn’t the easily forgettable type, is he?
Kaleb was tall and dashing, and he was leagues above most people as well. She heard he was also a
straight-A student back in the day. She couldn’t fathom how Yvette could forget a man like Kaleb just
like that.
Yvette seemed to have sensed Emma’s shock as she explained with a chuckle, “I’ll be honest with you.
The reason I had that kind of relationship with him was that I thought it was high time I lost my v-card
after years of focusing on my studies. So I got myself a decent-looking guy to have a taste of sex.
Besides, we were graduating real soon at that time, and everyone would definitely go their separate
ways after that, no? Who would remember who’s who?” Yvette got somewhat helpless at this point.
“But who’d have thought I’d run into him when I’ve decided to settle down and find a hospital to work
in?”
“Right…” Emma muttered.
All in all, Yvette really saw Kaleb as just a f*ckmate, while Kaleb took their relationship seriously.
