Chapter 16 A look of utter disbelief formed on Trevor’s face after he heard Christopher’s words. So, Grandpa is the
one who arranged for us to meet. I thought Emma was the one who tried to use Grandpa to get close
to me. Trevor’s gaze landed on the gift that Emma had left by the side. I thought that she was buying
that old-fashioned scarf for that guy, Adam, so I mocked her earlier. But this color really suits
Grandpa… Trevor didn’t know how he felt about misunderstanding Emma not once, but twice. He
pressed his lips together in frustration before he turned to walk out of the house.
He found Emma standing outside the house with her head lowered as she tapped on her phone screen
to order a cab. Christopher stayed in the mid-hills area, so there weren’t a lot of cabs driving around.
“It’s hard to get a cab to come here. Let me send you back,” Trevor offered as he walked up to her.
Both of them had been in each other’s lives for the past four years or so, yet this was the first time that
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTrevor had shown any sign of kindness to Emma. In the past, whenever they had any conflicts or
arguments, Emma would always be the one to give in first.
If she didn’t speak up to break the silence between them, Trevor would just continue with the cold war
forever. Emma couldn’t stand such tension in the air, so she would always be the one to compromise.
To her surprise, Trevor actually offered to drop her home this time. She gasped under her breath and
thought about it for a while before she rejected him. “It’s fine. Thank you.” Then, she turned around and
took a few steps to the side in order to maintain some distance from the man. She didn’t want him to
assume that she was still interested in him in any way. “Emma.” Trevor was rather anxious to right his
wrongs, so he reached his hand out to grab her. She frowned as she turned to stare at him.
“I’m sorry for what happened earlier,” he muttered while staring into her eyes. The way he mocked her
in the men’s department and the way he chided her for showing up at Christopher’s house… Both
instances had just been Trevor overthinking the situation. Emma had never expected Trevor to
apologize to her. If it were the old her, she would have beamed with pleasure to hear him apologize.
However, Emma no longer needed such things from him now. So, her gaze remained peaceful as she
responded. “You’re forgiven.
Can you let go of me now?” she asked while gazing at the way he was grabbing her arm. A rather
awkward look flashed across Trevor’s face as he hastily released his grip. Emma took a few steps back
before she lowered her head and continued to tap on her phone. Trevor then pulled his keys out to
unlock his car. “Get in. You know how rare it is for cabs to come all the way here,” he muttered while
looking at the calm expression on her face. This was a high-end residential area, so most of the people
who traveled around were wealthy individuals who had their own cars and drivers.
Emma might have to wait for half a day just for a cab to show up. In the end, Emma put her phone

cab, even if I have to walk there.” Trevor was rather speechless in the face of her stubbornness. It was
only now that he knew how stubborn she was. Back when they were together, Emma never showed
this side of her. She would go along with whatever he wanted, and she had never gone against his will
until the day she asked for a divorce. Both the man and woman were about to disagree on each other’s
views when the house gates opened.
A car drove out, and Christopher’s driver soon winded the car window down to address them. “Old Mr.
Christopher told me to drive Miss Yates home. You should go in for lunch with Old Mr. Christopher, Mr.
Bateson.” Emma didn’t hesitate to get into Christopher’s car after that. She didn’t even say goodbye to
Trevor—it was almost as if she were running away from him. The driver gave Trevor a nod before
driving off with Emma in the car. When Trevor saw that, the muscles on his neck tensed as he watched
the car speed off.
