Protagonist's Evil System: My Girlfriend Turned Into A Dragon
Chapter 48 Choosing His WeaponLucas looked at Haya's cold gaze when he mentioned killing a monster.
"What kind of weapon will we need to kill it?" Lucas' question was directed at Haya.
The atmosphere in this place was sharp enough to cut a dragon. This man, who Lucas assumed was an arms dealer, stared at him unblinkingly.
In the real world, Lucas never stared at anyone because it could get him into big trouble and he would get into a fight with someone, but this was in his world.
This place was full of strangers and people and creatures with strange behaviours, even if he fought it would probably be a very strange fight.
"We need something sharp and something that can cut a dragon's neck at once."
"The neck of a dragon? Are you trying to kill me, Haya?" Kali pushed Lucas away to get closer to him.
"No, not you, but a monster twice your size." Haya bit the inside of her cheek.
Lucas had only fought a few monsters, and they did not seem easy to deal with, but a monster twice the size of Kali made his pupils dilate.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"We have fought this monster before, we will be fine." Haya turned back to the weapons that were available in the shop, "we need something for the fight." He put his hand on his chin.
Haya's eyes glanced at the sword that stood alone on a dark shelf. The size and shape stood out on their own.
The glistening blade of the curved sword was at least three feet long and forged of steel and adamantine. An almond-sized ruby was set into the pommel, while the hilt was made of the finest wood.
"This one." Haya pointed to the shelf beside which he stood.
Everyone turned to see what he was pointing at.
"A sword? Haya, can you wield it?" Lucas backed away slowly.
Seeing Haya in such a concentrated moment made Lucas take everything even more seriously. The man looking at him did not seem like a nice guy, he was just an extra in this place.
From the knowledge Lucas had about video games, he knew that some characters were only made to make the game look more alive and detailed. Some of them could not even speak, and some had very serious jobs.
Judging from his own observation, this place was also something more important in this world, considering how detailed the inside was that it even had a foul smell. The weapons and swords are offered for sale on a counter.
Some strange-looking drinks and potions that could probably be used to restore or level up something were clearly visible.
"Lucas, give it a try," Haya spoke to him, already holding the blade in his hands.
What could he lose by not accepting this sword? He was already announced as the protagonist of this story, so everything should be his from the start.
First cute and strong spirits and avatars, now a weapon and not only a weapon - a sword he could learn to handle.
With every single mission, Lucas got closer to his goal of getting out of there, so all he had to do was accept what he was given and follow the rules set by the system.
'Fact is, I do not even know the rules of this place.' Lucas put his hand on his chin and was once again lost in his thoughts.
"Lucas!" Kali slapped her palm gently against his head.
Last time she felt guilty for hitting him so hard for staring at Xina, so she decided to be a little gentler this time.
"Ah, yes, the sword." He shook his head to clear the inner thought from his mind, "Give it to me so I can hold it."
He was curious about this sword and this place in general, 'perhaps holding a sword will give me extra strength or make me rise?' He held his breath and accepted the sword, stretching out his hands.
Lucas expected lightning to strike his body or extreme power to flow through his blood, but nothing happened.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe simply held the sword in his hands and stood there like a statue with frozen legs.
"So, do you like it?" Xina asked him from behind.
All this time he hadn't even noticed her, 'she does seem to have some nice ninja skills' he nodded his head slowly.
Xina was all alone this time, looking at each weapon, but none seemed to fit her warrior persona. She already had the skill for her magic arrows, so Lucas wasn't even surprised why she was so sceptical about this place.
The moment they climbed the stairs, her face changed from its usually expressionless expression to furrowed brows and a wrinkled nose. Lucas thought that maybe she didn't like it here, but when she disappeared into the corner alone, he obviously sensed that something was suspicious to her.
"Well?" Xina repeated her question in a higher tone.
"I don't know?" Lucas turned to her as he pushed his shoulders back, "I mean, it's easy and it's nice to hold, but that's it." He added.
"So that's it." Haya gently interrupted them both, then turned to the vendor and said, "We'll buy that one."
The seller didn't say a word, in Lucas' mind, he somehow guessed that this man had no words left for himself, and his lines were quite direct.
Extras in games or anime don't usually have much to say unless it's a side character who gets their own story, but this one didn't seem so special that the creator of this story would bother to give him more detail.
Lucas was still holding the sword when Haya put a small bag with something in it on the table.
It was the same sack they'd when they all left the elven city. Haya opened it and took out some sparkling diamonds.
Lucas couldn't quite make out the colour, but one thing was clear to him: the diamond Haya put on the counter was the same one the system had ordered him to get: 'Is this even legal?' Lucas stepped aside to get a better look.
"We'll pay with it."
