She turned back to Eileen, "Is Dorothy here by herself?"
"Don't worry, Dorothy's asleep. The babysitter will be back from grocery shopping soon and she'll take good care
of her."
Lizetta nodded and as she turned away, her gaze unintentionally caught Remington again.
Clearly, even when she was the fake Stella, Remington still took great care of her.
Lizetta wondered if she was just being overly sensitive, but she couldn't shake off a feeling of discomfort.
Echo Ridge Villa was indeed close to the hospital; it took less than five minutes by car to arrive.
Before getting out of the car, Remington hurriedly said to Lizetta, "Just wait here, alright?"
The doctor had advised Lizetta to limit her activities, and it seemed Remington had no tto fuss over her now.
Nodding, she watched Remington and Eileen stride into the hospital building.
Lizetta took out her phone, intending to watch sdance videos, but she couldn't focus.
She felt restlessness gnaw at her, and then she noticed Remington's phone left on the dashboard.

After a moment's hesitation, Lizetta took Remington's phone and got out of the car.
She made her way slowly upstairs to Barbara's hospital room.
The door was ajar, with several doctors and nurses poised inside as if bracing for something serious.
From the outskirts of the crowd, Lizetta saw Barbara on the bed, gripping Remington's hand in one of hers and
Eileen's in the other, struggling to speak.
"Remington."
"Godmother, I'm here. What is it?"
"Remington, this t| go into surgery, | might not make it back."
Barbara's face was pale, and her lips were colorless as she spoke.
Remington tightly held her hand, and his voice was a soothing balm.
"Godmother, you'll be fine. Your birthday's coming up. I've already ordered the cake ahead. We're all waiting for
you to get out, so we could celebrate your birthday and blow out the candles together."
But Barbara shook her head; it seemed her breaths were labored.
"I-1 know my body. Remington, there's something you must promise me, or | can't peacefully go into surgery!"
"Anything. Just say it, and | promise."
A faint smile touched Barbara's lips as she forcefully brought Eileen's hand into Remington's, saying,
"Stella's had a hard tout there. If I'm gone, the West family will only have your godfather to look after her,
but he's getting on in years, and his health isn't great. Stella."
She struggled to speak, taking labored breaths.
Understanding her meaning, Remington nodded, "I get it. I'll take good care of Stella. As long as I'm here,
nobody will make her suffer or bully her."
Yet, Barbara shook her head.
"No! | want you to promise, to fulfill your pledge to marry Stella. Only then can you truly look after her for life!
Only then can | rest easy."
Hearing Barbara's words cin fragments, Lizetta clenched the phone so hard that it hurt.

Being in disbelief, she had her eyes widened and her lips bitten tight.
Fulfill a pledge?
Was Evelina's claim about Remington and Stella being childhood sweethearts actually true?
No wonder Barbara seemed to dislike her. It wasn't just her imagination.
Barbara probably thought she took Stella's place.
But no matter what, she and Remington had been married for two years now, and they even had a baby.
How could Barbara make such an unreasonable demand?
And what about Remington? Would he agree?
No, she believed that Remington wouldn't agree.
Lizetta's hands tightened around the phone, so much so that its edges dug into her palms.
She screamed in her heart silently.
Rem, please don't agree to marry her. Don't break my heart.
