In response, Conner took a sip of coffee and spoke casually. “I’m grateful that you thought of my

birthday. As for your strategy in Pollerton, you can call the shots on your own.”

“I’m having a little trouble discerning the present situation,” said Jennifer.

“Hmm. Let’s hear it.” Conner put the coffee mug down and stared at Jennifer.
