Alexander was discussing a plan with Austin and Mike in the living room when he heard a car screech to a stop in the middle of
his yard. Alexander was surprised even though he knew it was Dominic.
“What happened?” Austin looked at the car. “Why’s Uncle Dom back so soon?”
“Let’s check it out,” Alexander said gravely, removing his hands from the table and striding toward the yard. As the car door
opened, Alexander hurried over to support Dominic, only to learn it was not the old man who exited the car.
“Alex!” Lily looked at her husband gently. Although she had many things to tell him, his name was all she could utter at that
Alexander halted, wondering if he was dreaming.
“I’m back.” Lily took a deep breath and intended to grin, but her eyes grew teary instead.
Alexander marched over and embraced her. As he felt her warmth, he knew she was real and that he was not dreaming. He
became teary-eyed as he spoke with a quivering voice, “Y-You’re back. You’re finally back!”
“I am, baby.” Lily smiled and patted his shoulders.
“You’re truly home...” Alexander kept repeating himself as if that was all he could say.
As Austin followed close behind, he was also stunned to see her. “Lily?”
When Dominic got out of the car, Austin quickly went over to help. “Uncle Dom, what happened?”
The old man shrugged, saying, “I saw her running over when I was almost there, so I let her in the car and brought her back. I
don’t know what happened either. Whatever it was, I’m glad she’s back.”
Dominic sighed in relief as he watched the couple embrace each other.
Meanwhile, Mike slowly clenched his fists as he stood alone.
Lily saw Mike and patted Alexander’s shoulder. “Hey, let’s talk inside.”
Alexander gave her another squeeze between his arms and took in her scent before letting her go. Although he had tried to pull
himself together, Lily could tell he had cried. She did not expect that.
Still, it was the most trying period of their married lives. The couple had never been apart for so long and had never experienced
such despair before. They even thought they would never see each other again.
Fortunately, that was not the case.
As everyone walked toward the house entrance, Lily greeted Mike. The latter casually asked, “Are they still holding Nicky
hostage?”
He had guessed so since he saw no one else except Lily and Dominic exiting the car.
