Strings of Fate 155- Sisters and similarities Once everyone leaves, Bellamy pullsaside to talk.
“Ry, | didn’t mean for to find out about us like that. It was an accident. | was just trying to be considerate. | guess | didn’t think it through as well as | should have.” His tone is apologetic. | sigh.
“I know that Bels, It’s not your fault. I'm not mad. Accidents happen.” | reassure him. He looks relieved, then contemplative.
“You didn’t have to tell her the truth.” He remarks. | roll my eyes.
“Sure | did. | said | want to keep things to ourselves, that doesn’t mean | want to outright lie to people. already confirmed that there are rumours and eventually, | suppose we will confirm them.” | think aloud. Bellamy smiles happily.
“Good. | wouldn't enjoy having to hear you deny that you're mine.” He hugstightly and | poke him in the ribs.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Maybe you're mine.” | tease and he just laughs.
“Of course I'm yours. That was implied.” He assures me.
“Good.” | pull back.
And thank you by the way, for trying to be considerate by getting a woman to pack my stuff. Now. I'm still waiting for a phone call. I'm going to go unpack my stuff while | wait. Wanna cand rearrange it all when | inevitably put it in the ‘wrong’ spots.” | joke. Bellamy grins.
“That sounds perfect.” Apparently I've collected more junk over the years than | thought | had. It takes way longer to put away than expected. Sthings | just throw away, but it’s interesting seeing how my stuff fits into Bellamy’s room. We set aside a few things because Bellamy has declared that he wants to build another shelf to display sof my favourite things. We're just breaking down 1/4 155- Sisters and similarities the boxes so we can recycle them when my phone rings. | launch myself at it where it's waiting on the bed and I'm breathless when | answer.
“Hello? This is Ryann Gale.” “Good afternoon Alpha Gale, this is Joshua from the Magic Registration Office. | believe we spoke a few days ago.” He greetspleasantly. | flinch a little at the title he gives me. | might be registered as the feline Alpha female, but that doesn’t mean | really am the Alpha. Bellamy is smiling atwith a combination of glee and nervousness. | guess he’s still concerned that I'm mad at him. | find that I'm not mad, just uncomfortable.
“Just Ryann is fine Joshua and yes | remember you. Were you able to getthe information?” | try to keep my tone calm and confident, but inside I'm a mix of raging nerves. | need this information, | will definitely freak out if he says no. Tears are guaranteed. But not before a rampage andprobably picking a fight.
“Well, my supervisors were understandably reluctant to hand over information about such a young girl to someone clearly unrelated to her, but when | mentioned your new registration status as well as your own unknown magic, they agreed that | could pass on sof her information, not everything but hopefully enough to help you. Although I have to inform you that there are strings attached.
There is an expectation that should you learn more about your own magic that you update your registration in a timely manner.” Well that’s not so bad, | would have done that either way. The registration system might be a little extrand it doesn’t help with the racist members of society, but it does help avoid certain misunderstandings and safety issues. Besides, it's not that difficult to just wear long sleeves if don’t want to advertise what you are. I'm not saying the system is perfect, but it's the one we’ve got, and it's the one that (most) people have agreed to.
you “That won't be a problem. If | learn anything new about myself I'll be happy to update the MRO in a timely manner.” | assure him.
“Excellent!.” Joshua answers cheerfully.
“Well, I've made up a file which | can email through to you in a moment, but | thought | might explain sof the information that | included which might be a little unexpected, as well as give reasons for the information that was excluded.” 2/4 155-Sisters and similarities “Right, sure. That would be great.” | consider the call on speakerphone for Bellamy, but he can hear everything being said either way so | don’t see the point.
“Okay, well first, the main piece of information that has been excluded is Kiara Brooks race. It was deemed irrelevant and as it is not public knowledge and could put her at risk it is better. kept private. She was marked with the symbol for her magic which is additional to her race.” He begins. That's... odd. The whole point of the system is that knowing what people are puts them at LESS risk of silly accidents. Why exactly would a little girl need to keep it secret? What could she be? “Alright.” | respond, doubtfully.
“Kiara Brooks is recorded as a magic that is all at once completely unique and not at all. She is the representative of one of the three sisters of fate. Her record doesn’t state which sister.” “Sisters of fate?” | question.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Yeah, | think the most commonly known version is that in Greek myths, maiden, mother, crone, ones who make, measure and cut the strings that represent a person's life. Those sisters.” He explains. Huhs, that doesn’t sound exactly like my magic, but strings of fate are at definite connection. Could | be one of these representatives? “Okay, what else can you tell me?” | ask curiously “Ah yes, well this is where it gets a little more complicated. When | was looking the girl up in our system and | realised that her magic was part of a set, | thought it might be useful to help in identifying your magic if you had that information too. So | went ahead and put through additional information requests on your behalf to get information about else with the smark as Miss Brooks. It's not strictly against the rules, but is definitely bending them a little as you didn’t make the formal request, but I thought it might save you s time.” Joshua admits nervously.
anyone “Any information you can give would be amazing. | really appreciate you putting in so much effort for me.” | encourage him and | can practically feel him perking up on the other end of the phone.
“You're very welcome. Okay so, the additional information that I have included in the file is 3/4 155- Sisters and similarities the names and contact information for two more people who have the smark as Kiara Brooks. | don’t know much about them other than that the three of them are supposedly representative of the sisters of fate.” Oh, so there are already three of them. So | guess | can’t be one of them. But still, maybe there is something else similar that one of them might know about? Or at least they might know something that would help us work out why Kiara was taken. Either way it’s a solid lead.
“Do v you think that information might be useful to you?” Joshua sounds unsure again and I realise I've waited too long to answer.
“Oh sorry, | was just thinking. That sounds incredibly useful, really. Thank you so much for doing such a thorough job looking into this for me. You're very good at your job.” | praise.
him.
“Great, that’s just... great. | wanted to be thorough. | have to admit I'm curious to see if your magic can be identified. You're the only unknown magic in this city right now and I love a good mystery. It also never hurts to be on an Alpha’s good side.” He jokes. Aaaaand I'm uncomfortable again.
“Ah, well. Thanks again. I'll look into it and if | can figure out what | am | promise I'll let you know. Thank you for all your help.” | wrap up the call. | turn to Bellamy and he takes my hand.
“Let's head to the office. We have sinformation to sort through and speople to track down.” Chapter Comments
