SNAKE BITE CELINE’s POV | felt Sebastian collapse on the dry leaves next to me. He appeared as though he had just completed a marathon based on the rate at which he was breathing. I rolled over onto my side and turned my back on him as he gazed at me.

This shouldn't happen...

| slowly raised myself to my feet and looked around for my underwear. | had lived on an island ever since | was a child, so | was prepared f situations like this one. I got firsthand experience with everything, from sowing seeds to gathering crops to angling for fish.

Even though it was pouring hard, | managed to keep my composure and realized that | had to find a safe spot to hide. Otherwise, once it was completely dark, countless dangers would be lurking on the island.

My shoes were quickly covered in a thick layer of sand, and the odor that permeated the air was difficult to describe, which made it difficult forto breathe. My body began to shake when | its tail slowly moved into a tighter position, indicating that it was ready to attack.

“Stand still!” Sebastian groaned, gritting his teeth, and | immediately wrapped my arms around him, buried my face down in his chest and pressing my eyes tight as | did so.

| felt his arms wrap aroundas well, before he lifted his foot to kick the branch away, and as | looked back, | saw the snake drop on the ground and started to slither away.

| had to catch my breath for a second. | didn’t have a problem with either heaven or hell, but | had a severe phobia of snakes.

Sebastian, too, saw the enormous boulder, and when he got there, he discovered a little cave. It wasn’t very big, and once you got inside, you'd find scharred branches and a pile of dust. Clearly, somebody had been in this place before.

Sebastian placedin a strategic position atop a large stone an proceeded to shove the branches in the middle of the cave. He used a lighter to ignite them, and soon after, we could hear crac kling sounds. coming from the cave and the heat from the fire began to warm us up.

Sebastian, however, paid little attention to what | had to say; instead, he dipped his head and rubbed the back of his palm on his thigh while knitting his eyebrows. His face was pale.
