My eyes scanned Emily's body and | found her bleeding from her leg and her stomach. For a moment, | panicked,
not knowing supposed to do. The idea of losing her wrapped its claws like a monster around my neck and | was
suddenly breathless. There were two wounds DII yelled to no one in particular as |

"It h-burts," she whimpered, | caught a tear falling from her right eye and | wiped it with my finger. "I don't don't
want to die, Julian." A sob excaped her, making her wince again.
"You're not going to die." | shook my head. She couldn't die. It didn't make sense. Everything was good. No, it
was great. She couldn't just die like that! It was too early. We still needed to grow our family. | knew that she
wanted more kids and | wanted that too. | wanted us as | kept her close to me.
Who would do that to her? Why would somebody hurt an angel like her? She was amazing inside and out. She
was loving, caring, compassionate and perfect in every single way. She gave money to charity and if anybody
asked for her help, she didn't hesitate to extend a

"Stop talking like that. Nothing is going to happen to you." | wasn't sure of that. She was losing a lot of blood and
| didn't know how to stop the bleeding. It was so fast and | was utterly helpless.
Her eyelids started to close and | gave her shoulders a simple shake. "No, | beg you. Don't close your eyes.
Please, keep them open." | pleaded.
"S-sorry," she stuttered, My Emily was a fighter and she was never the one to give up easily. The exhaustion she
was battling was way stronger than her. The fear inside ofintensified when she lost consciousness
Tears fell on her face and | realized that they were mine. | didn't even realize that | had been crying.

Soon, an ambulance arrived and the paramedics took her from me. | refused to let her ride the ambulance on her
own. My eyes were glued to heart monitor, scared that the zigzag might turn into a flat line.
Her face was paler than usual and her lips weren't as pink as they usually were. | didn't like seeing that version
of her. She wasn't supposed to be on that stretcher fighting for her life.
We had plans for the night. We were going to cuddle in bed until we would fall asleep. We were supposed to go
to our new house tomorrow to check how the renovation process was going.
| didn't know how long it took us to reach the hospital. All | knew was once we reached it, the medical staff
gathered around her and she
was taken to the emergency room. | tried to go with her, but they toldthat | wasn't allowed inside, so | sat
outside the room, waiting for any news.
Only when | saw a small child staring atdid | notice that something was wrong with me. | looked at my
clothes, the thing that the child was staring at, and | found lots of blood. My shirt was once white, but it wasn't
anymore. Emily's blood turned it red. | wasn't even sure
re if my phone was withor not, but when | touched my pocket | found it there. With trembling hands, | took it
out of my pocket and unlocked it. | needed to tell my family. They had to know what happened to her.
Rosie!
No, | didn't plan on telling her anything. | needed to shield her from the truth for now. She was strongly attached
to her mum and if she knew that something bad happened to her, she would be traumatized.
| searched for Harper's number and called her. | wasn't sure how she was going to take the news. Emily had
becher best friend over the past year, so finding out that something bad had happened to her best friend
would break her. "Hey, bro. How's it going?" she answered in her usual cheery voice.
"Harper, are the kids around your] asked her.

"No, what's going on! Are you okay?" Worry laced her tone.
"It's Emily she has been shot. The words were heavy and bitter on my tongue.
"What?" She screamed through the phone that | had to move the phone away fro my ears. Julian, this is nothing
to joke about. Is this true?" Her Voice cracked.
10:30 AM.
Chapter 68
"It's true. Harper. It's true," | said in defeat. After knowing which hospital | was at, | hung up the phone and
waited.
| wanted somebody to walk out of the room and giveany update; however, | was petrified of what | might
hear. | didn't want somebody to walk out of the door and tellthat | had lost the woman | planned on
proposing to. 1 didn't want to be told that it was too late to save her. What was | going to do without her? | barely
survived those
five years. | wasn't ready to lose her for the second time. Not after everything we had been through. Not after
she had finally allowedto be part of her life again.
When the door of the emergency room opened, | stood up with shaky legs and braced myself against what the
doctor was about to tell me.
