"Rosie is here! It must be my lucky day." But this is certainly not my lucky day. It's

effortless to detect that voice. Silas Cromwell. The most annoying human being on earth. Had it not been for his

sister's birthday. | would have punched him in the face, but | don't want to ruin the fun. The little girl doesn't

deserve that from me. "I can't miss the opportunity to see you," | sarcastically say as | turn around to face him.

Either he has grown taller, or | have shrunk.

"Oh, | know you're in love with me." He smirks, makinglaugh.

"More like in love with the idea of strangling you."!

Sometimes, we wish we could get rid of speople in our life. Silas Cromwell is somebody | want to get rid of,

but it's almost impossible.

How can | get rid of him when his sister, Aniyah, is best friends with Lily and Holden, my siblings? Out of every

single person in their school, did they have to pick his sister to be friends with?

He has been getting on my nerves since day one. | remember when Lily and Holden cto Mum one day,

The next day at pick up, Mum met Aniyah's mum and invited them to our place so my siblings and their new

friend could have a play date. The

t weekend, Aniyah and her mum showed up at our place, but they weren't alone. There was a boy with them and

he seemed older than me.

| thought we might be friends, but oh man was | wrong. That boy liked to prank me, snoop through my stuff, and

splashin the pool whenever the five of us would go for a swim. He used to make fun of how short and petite |

was for my age.

Our siblings have been friends for five years and throughout these years, | have put up with his arrogance and

terrible personality. Well, it isn't that terrible, because he is sometimes nice to me, but I try not to trust him so

much because Silas cannot be trusted, "Keep up the act of hatingand | might believe it." He chuckles, taking

a sip from the energy drink in his hand. Instead of saying anything, | check my phone. I'm supposed to be going

out with Kendall, my best friend, after a while.

| wasn't supposed to take Lily and Holden to the birthday party, but when Lily told Aniyah that | wasn't going to

attend, she beggedto come, and | couldn't say no to that little girl. She is like my Einle sister, and | can't say

no to her. Her parents transformed their backyard into any child's dream. Bouncy castles are everywhere and

mermaid-themed decorations are all over the place. There is even an artist for drawing on the children's faces

"Are you texting your boyfriend!" Silas says.

"And what if am?" | wonder, eyeing him. | don't have a boyfriend. | dated once when | was fifteen and that

relationship did not last for more than seven months. He said that | was boring and a prude because | didn't want

to sleep with him.

"I need to make sure that he is not as bad as your ex. | don't want to get my knuckles bruised again." He doesn't

look atas he speaks.

My breakup with my ex-boyfriend wasn't exactly a clean one. | caught him cheating onat a party and when |

confronted him about the whole thing, he said that | was the one who drove him to do that because I refused to

sleep with him. He calleda bunch of names at that party, but Silas was there, and he made sure to make him

regret insulting Inc.

He tookby surprise that night. | thought he was going to givethe "I told you so speech, because he did

tellbefore that my ex wasn't a good person. Instead, he heldas | cried and tookto get ice cream.

That was the nicest thing he had ever done to"You don't need to worry about that," | say, typing my reply to

"Are you still single?" he asks. Why is he so interested in my love life!

"l am." | reply.

"Shere." It doesn't take a genius to know that he is single. Silas doesn't like any sort of commitment, and

this is widely known in our social circle. He plays football and is widely popular. | have seen how girls act around

him, yet he doesn't give them his attention at all "Expected"1 shrug. | have always wondered why he doesn't

date, but I haven't found it into ask him that question out loud. | don't want him to know that | find myself

"Are you ready for college?" he asks while looking atthis time, changing the topic.

"It's a huge campus, Silas, | don't think we're going to bump into each other." I'm trying to convince myself of

that, because | surely don't want to see him on campus.

"I will make sure that you see a lot of me." Again, he si

smirks.

"Is it too late to change my destination? | loudly wonder, making him laugh.

"It's your dream university, Rosie. Would you really ditch it because of me?" He has a point, | cannot just ditch

my dream university because | cannot stand Silas. For sreason, my parents like how Silas and | will be at the

suniversity, saying that he would be there | don't understand why my parents like Silas that much. Maybe

it's because of how nice he is around them. It's not like he bullies me. | can never consider him a bully. Not when

| know that I can count on him if | get in trouble. But he knows how to get on my nerves. He is "Am | going to see

you tomorrow at my family's event?" he asks

"Yes. | bet you're not a fan of that," | tease him.

"Actually, | want to ask you for a favor. He takesby surprise upon saying that. Silas isn't the one to ask for

favors.

"What is it?" I'm curious. What does he want from me? And whyexactly?

"| want you to be my date for tomorrow's event."
