371 Getting sworn into the Bloodgarde
The two people in the stealth cruiser looked at Zi Han with slight suspicion making him feel very uncomfortable. He cleared his throat and said, “It’s no-nothing? Shorty just sent me a funny video of a dog and a cat.”
Zi Xingxi who wasn’t buying it all scrutinized him from top to bottom before asking,
“I thought you cut off contact with everyone so you don’t get them in trouble.”
Zi Han, “...”
“I. I did. I absolutely did. It’s just that I couldn’t bear cutting Shorty off. You know how much he relies on me and so on and so forth,” replied Zi Han. Of course, he knew his mother wouldn’t buy his BS but how was he supposed to say that he received a salacious and mouth-watering picture from the said person he had supposedly broken up with?
Zi Xingxi wasn’t done with him. She loved watching her son sweating under her intense interrogation. Only those who have interrogated a toddler after they steal cookies would be able to understand this feeling.
“What are the cat and dog doing in the video? Can I see?” she said and Zi Han subconsciously shifted away while locking his light brain.
“Uh, no need. The um the cat was on the other side of the glass door and the um... dog was inside and and they were fighting through the glass. But when the sliding door opened the fight ended,’ said Zi Han explaining some other video he saw in the past.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSecretary K couldn’t help but laugh quietly already searching for the video on StarNet. This was kind of his thing.
.....
“What kind of dog was it?” asked Zi Xingxi as she folded her arms across her chest.
Zi Han, “Heh?”
“Was it a pomeranian? A golden retriever or maybe was it a Siberian husky,” asked Zi Xingxi and Zi Han’s eyes instantly became shifty. How was he supposed to remember that?
“Ma’am, it’s a samoyed,” said Secretary K while showing her the video.
Half a minute later...
“Hahahaha ahahahahaha too cute. Why, why aren’t they continuing the fight after the door opened? This is too funny,” said Zi Xingxi slapping her thigh while laughing.
Zi Han, ???
Well, that was new. He didn’t know his mother would find such videos funny. He wiped the sweat off his forehead and was incredibly grateful she forgot about this little episode.
He didn’t even dare open his light brain after that for fear that his mother would find out what Yi Chen sent to him. In his mother’s eyes, he was brokenhearted and was trying to move on from Yi Chen but in truth, they still had these kinds of chats between them.
Like a mother genuinely trying to help her son forget about his ex, she had major plans for Zi Han. She didn’t manage to drag him to a gay bar the other time because her son refused.
For his initiation celebration, she definitely made up for it. She had invited the best male dancers in the federation and boy was it going to be a lit party.
When Zi Han reached the warship he was surprised to find a lot of people in the hangar dressed in emerald cloaks with their heads covered.
Zi Han who was so confused asked, “What is this?” in a whisper as he was afraid to even speak louder.
Zi Xingxi draped her arm across his shoulder and said, “Your initiation ceremony. As a youngling you have passed your test and managed to complete the mission successfully so now we welcome you into the fold.”
Zi Xingxi glanced at his grandfather standing on a platform with a cloak different from the others. It was the same shade of green but it was embroidered with gold.
Behind him was Chronos standing tall in glory giving off a sentimental atmosphere. “I, I thought he retired?” he whispered to his mother asking about his grandfather.
Zi Xingxi was about to respond when Zi Feiji cleared his throat indicating that he had heard them.
“Will talk after,” she said while snapping her finger and Lynn Feng brought over a cloak for her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“I am so proud of you,” whispered Lynn Feng while passing Zi Xingxi her cloak.
Zi Xingxi put on her cloak and so did Secretary K before they walked forward to stand by Zi Feiji’s side.
“Ahem... Zi Han son of Ye... hem... son of Zi Xingxi will you accept this oath and walk on this path as a crusader of justice?” said Zi Feiji almost mentioning Zi Han’s father’s name as per tradition but he corrected himself in time.
Zi Han who wasn’t prepared for this and didn’t know it was going to be such a rigorous occasion glanced at his mother. He was like a nervous preschooler at a dance recital after forgetting the steps.
He could only look at his mother for help. And just like a responsible mum gesturing the next steps to their little one, she discreetly gestured with her hand for him to half kneel.
Zi Han did as instructed and answered his grandfather’s question. “Yes I accept,” he said and his heart began to beat fast. After taking this oath there was no turning back.
Once the path was accepted he would become a part of the Bloodgarde for life. It was his family running the Bloodgarde but he had a choice. He could choose to have nothing to do with the Bloodgarde.
But this is what he wanted. This was his choice. If he couldn’t defend the federation from external threats he could at least defend the federation from internal ones.
“Before you partake in the blood oath you need to leave your old self behind. You need to denounce your affiliation with Onyx Federation Interplanetary Army. Lay down your badge, uniform, firearms and any other possessions given to you by them.”
Zi Han’s body froze for a moment as he gulped unconsciously. He began to take out everything he had from the military laying it on the ground.”
Zi Han took out uniforms, body armour, and three badges including the ones he attained for his achievements. He wasn’t as attached to those but when he saw the one with his squad name Zi Han was suddenly hesitant. It felt like he was letting go of the two years he spent with Yi Chen.
His dark pupils rippled as he stared at that badge for a second. Memories of the battles he fought alongside Yi Chen flashed in his eyes. He didn’t want to let go of it but he knew it couldn’t be kept.
As he laid it on top of his uniform he felt a stinging pain like he had laid down his heart. When Zi Xingxi saw him let it go, she exhaled the breath she had been holding back. The military had already released a warrant for his arrest. He was due to face a court-martial on murder charges thus there was no going back. The Bloodgarde was his only choice now.
