Chapter 212 Present a Public Front While Secretly Preparing a Hidden Plan
Crispin persuaded, “Steph, it’s hard for us to be happy if the elders do not bless our
relationship. That’s why it’s better for us not to take this step unless we’re absolutely sure
of our relationship. After all, that’s the man who raised you since birth.”
These were clearly the words of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but Stephanie was utterly
moved by his hypocritical words.
Crisp is so sensible and gentle, unlike my father, who is a domineering *ss.
Crispin looked at the pajamas that Stephanie wore and immediately knew what it meant.
It was just that he currently lacked the courage to sleep with her. If Jack found out that
Crispin bedded Stephanie, the older man’s impression of him would ultimately be ruined.
And so, he feigned chivalry as he continued, “Don’t be like this, Steph. I like you solely
because I like you. I want to be your boyfriend, and I want to do it openly. I’ll do everything
that I can to persuade your father to accept me. Why don’t you return home with your
bodyguards? Don’t let your father worry.
“Crisp. I… Stephanie felt guilty upon hearing that. Crisp is such a kind person, but I’ve lied
to him.
The group of people with her weren’t bodyguards; they were actually marriage candidates
that her father had assigned to her!
However, she did not have the heart to break Crisp’s heart by telling him the truth.
“Steph, don’t be willful. I’ll find a way to get your father to accept me and let him see my
sincerity in giving you happiness.”
Stephanie burst into tears at that. She felt that she did not choose the wrong person to be
her life partner. Crisp wasn’t that ungrateful, greedy villain that everyone made him out to
be. It was such a pity that her father was stubborn and did not want to get to know Crispin
even better.
Elias stood in front of the car and lit a cigarette. He felt that Stephanie would magically
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtappear as he smoked a few cigarettes.
He was halfway done with one of the sticks when he saw her in the alley.
He then raised his eyebrows at how much faster she was than he thought she would be.
Stephanie had a long face when she approached him and rudely instructed, “Let’s go! I’ll
give you the report!”
Elias threw the cigarette butt into the bin as he uttered with a hint of ridicule in his tone,
“As I thought, this won’t do. You came out faster than I expected.”
“Don’t push it, Elias Winters! Who permitted you to locate Crisp’s house? I’m warning you-I
won’t let you off the hook if he finds out about us!”
She was most worried that Crispin would misunderstand the situation because she would
not be able to explain the matter clearly.
Meanwhile, Elias sneered and retorted, “Then, why the hell did you look for my ex-wife?
I’m also warning you. If my ex-wife finds out about us, I’ll make sure that your little toy
boy will die a horrible death. I mean what I say, so you are more than welcome to try me.”
With that, he entered the driver’s seat.
Stephanie also sat in the passenger’s seat and coldly snorted before she looked out the
window.
And so, he drove her back to Allegra Villa..
Since it was a silent ride, Stephanie was so bored she couldn’t help but open her mouth.
“Hey, why are you scared that your ex-wife will know about us? In my case, it’s because I
like Crisp. How about you? Don’t tell me you still have feelings for your ex-wife?”
Elias only stared at the road ahead of him and ignored her as if she did not exist.
It was because he felt that she was too boisterous and noisy to the point where his head
ached.
When she noticed that he didn’t speak, she asked again, “Say something. Why are you
quiet? Why are you scared that your ex-wife will know about us? I’m really curious.”
The man ignored her again.
After that, Stephanie retreated into her own world and recalled the first impression she
had of Amanda.
“I remember my first impression of your ex-wife was that she’s drop-dead gorgeous. She
wasn’t the poor Cinderella like how they had her written in the information. She’s a classy
lady and a famous lawyer! And mind you, she is good at what she does-
A second later, the piercing sound of a car braking was heard as the car came to a stop at
the curb.
Stephanie was startled when she was thrown forward due to inertia. “What the hell?! Are
you trying to kill me?”
The sudden stop had terrified her, and she still struggled to calm her racing heart. As she
opened her eyes. wide, she turned to the man beside her.
However, at this moment, Elias’ handsome face had a tense, expressionless look as he
growled, “You got someone to investigate my ex-wife.”
Stephanie was taken aback. Did I let the cat out of the bag?
Sure, she had indeed hired someone to investigate Amanda. How would she have known
where Amanda lived and those private things otherwise?
“I-I only wanted to understand your past-
“You want to find a weakness from my past so that you can complain to your father to
cancel the engagement,” Elias interrupted and finished the sentence for her.
Stephanie was left ashamed because he had hit the nail right on the mark. Now that Elias
has said it, it makes me look despicable, right?
“I… Well, you also don’t want the marriage, right? I’m not the only one. If you wanted the
marriage, would you have let me stay over at Crisp’s house while you acted indifferent?
We have the same purpose, so why
can’t we cooperate?”
Elias laughed at the girl’s innocence.
“Listen up, if you really don’t want the marriage, then don’t make it so goddamn obvious.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe more you resist, the sooner the engagement ceremony will be held. Always
remember: present a public front while secretly preparing a hidden plan,” he said with a
serious expression.
Stephanie looked at him with a dazed expression and shook her head. “I don’t get it. What
do you mean by that? Can you be more specific?”
Elias’ speechlessness was written all over his face. “How is your comprehension so poor
when you are a graduate of Corynthean Studies? You’re a hopeless case. If you want to be
with your Crisp, listen to me from now on, or you won’t be with him ever. You’ll end up
becoming the unloved wife of a rich man. I won’t like you because I already have someone
in my heart.”
At that, he started the car again and floored the gas in the direction of Allegra Villa.
Stephanie couldn’t react at that moment, but she understood what Elias meant.
For some inexplicable reason, she felt her heart thump before she suddenly asked out of
curiosity. “Is it
your ex?”
Elias, who was currently driving, responded coldly, “It’s none of your business. You
shouldn’t ask about things that have nothing to do with you. You don’t need me to tell you
what to say when you meet your father later, right? If you keep being stubborn, not being
able to have a clean cut with this will be the least of your concerns. Even Crispin might be
pulled down by your father to the point where he can’t rise again in this lifetime.”
At that, Stephanie was frightened because she knew that her father was capable of what
Elias had mentioned. Her father ruining Crispin was as easy as stepping on an ant
Somewhere in the midst of their conversation, the car stopped at Allegra Villa’s entrance.
Both of them unfastened their seatbelts and got out of the car to enter the villa.
At this moment, Jack was waiting for them in the living room.
The housekeeper promptly came to give a report. “Mr. Jack, Miss Steph and Mr. Winters
are back.”
A smile then appeared on the corners of the old fox’s lips. Jack merely wanted to test Elias’
sincerity tonight, and, as it turned out, Elias’ feelings were genuine.
