| turned off the shower quickly and grabbed the towel off its rack.

| didn’t bother to dry off the water from my skin as | tied it securely around me.

| had a feeling it was Ryker. My heart pounded fast. Was he here to harassagain?

As much as | was now a hybrid, | wasn’t sure | would be able to defeat Ryker in a fight. He was a vampire, or

something more.. but seemed like a trained warrior. Right now, it would take more than just my powers to defeat

Ryker.

But that doesn’t mean | wouldn't fight if | had to.

| looked around the bathroom and spotted a mop stick. | grabbed it, using it as a shield as | carefully stepped out

of the bathroom..

| entered the room and was about to swing the mopstick in the air when I stopped midway.

“Eden?” Lord Shevek stared atin surprise.

| straightened up immediately, throwing the mopstick to the side as | suddenly becconscious of how | was.

Lord Shevek noticed | was in a towel, and he spun around immediately.

“I'm sorry. | should have knocked before | entered.” He said, and stepped out.

| suddenly lost my strength as | plopped on the bed in relief. | never imagined | would be so glad to see Lord

Shevek. For now, he was a lesser evil compared to Ryker.

| got back up and looked for a short and a shirt to wear and dressed up quickly. When | was decent enough, |

opened the door.

Lord Shevek who leaned against the wall of my room gavea gentle look, and | opened the door wider.

“Cin,”

He nodded and entered.

“I'm sorry.” He said it again. “I didn’t think you would be in the bathroom.”

I smiled. “It's fine.”

“Are you okay? You look... tired.” Lord Shevek watchedcarefully.

| looked away. “I'm fine. | just have a lot going on.”

He nodded. “I can understand that. But still-”

“Why are you here?” | tried to move his attention away from me.

“I wanted to talk to you.” He clasped his hands together in front of him.

| noticed he wasn’t with his staff today.

“About what?” | raised a brow.

“I have a feeling you don’t want to be here any longer. You are drifting away from me.” He frowned. “The reason

| brought you withto the coven was for us to get to know each other. | wanted us to bond as father and

daughter, but | seem to be doing a bad job of it.”

| gave him a cautious look.

“I never said that.” | looked away.

“I know. But | can sense it. Even now, you are scared of me. | have no idea how | managed to make you feel like

you can't trust me.” Lord Shevek sighed.

Chapter 188

“It just happened like that.” | mumbled.

“There is a bridge between us now, something that wasn’t there when we first met. And | don’t want you to ever

feel far away from me.”

Lord Shevek looked away.

“I saw the way you looked at your mother andthis morning. You were angry. | used to think you wouldn't

mind if something happened between us, but | was wrong. You looked like you hated the fact that we were

together.”

“I have my reasons.” | said, and he swallowed something in his throat.

| hugged myself, feeling a slight shiver as my heart began to melt a little.

“Why did you go to my mother?” | fixed a look on him, suddenly protective. “Are you trying to use her to get to

me? Or you are with her because you love her.”

My father shuffled on his feet, a sign that the question made him nervous. | wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad

thing.

“I'm not sure if | would call it love.” He started. “But | want Rose. You would not understand it, but I desire her,

more than | have ever desired another woman.”

He looked away just before | could see the vulnerability in his eyes. | wanted to understand.

“Do you want to be with her?” | asked.

He sighed. “I don’t know. | have a lot of issues to sort before I can finally decide what | would do.”

| didn’t push further.

Lord Shevek was lost in his thoughts for a little while before he said. “There is more to everything than what you

hear or see.” He said softly.

| frowned. | knew he wasn't talking about my mother anymore.

“What do you mean?” | asked.

He shrugged. “Ryker being here is not something you can easily understand even if explained. It doesn’t matter

what you think you heard; everything I do is for the good of our family and our lineage. | mean well.”

| had a feeling Lord Shevek just made reference to what | heard last night.

He saw me?

| looked away and walked to the window as | stared hard at the curtains. | had never opened them before.

“I will leave you to rest and get dressed for the ceremony.” Lord Shevek said softly and stepped out.

The door closed in his wake.

| moved back to the bed and lied down on my back as | looked at the ceiling. | fixed my gaze on one spot and

thought about all that had happened.

Before | knew it, | fell asleep.

And | saw Eros.

At first, | smiled and ran to hug him. But then he was looking atcoldly. It wasn’t the Eros | knew. This was the

sEros from the other world. The beast.-

| backed away until he stood a few feet away from me; his eyes glowed fiercely and his claws elongated as he

stalked towards me. He bared his teeth at me, raising his claws at me...

| screamed and woke up, my heart beating fast... | gasped “It was just a dream.”
