Chapter 678
Brittany shrugged her off, losing her appetite for the coffee.
“Let’s go, Kari.”
Carla grabbed her purse and followed them closely behind, “Wait up, sis-in-law.”.
Brittany cringed at the title, pausing her steps, and said, “Don’t call me that.”
She never considered herself a part of the Salter clan, let alone Carla’s sister-in-law.
Carla blushed, “I’m sorry. They were just joking.”
“What kind of man is William? You know better than I do. Would you marry him if he really did all those things
they’re saying?”
Brittany couldn’t understand. Cafla was so infatuated with William, and it was no secret. But when people spoke ill
of him, Carla just brushed it off as a joke?
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtCarla’s smile faded, then she said, “You and William broke up a long time ago.”
“I know. But aside from that, we’re old friends. I trust his character.”
Brittany didn’t see anything wrong with her actions. She would have done the same for any of her friends, not just
William. But Carla saw it differently.
Carla had always wondered why William had been in love with Brittany for so many years. Was it her looks? Her
figure? Her wealth? She didn’t lose out to Brittany in any of those aspects. In fact, she knew William even before
Brittany did, yet William never gave her a second look.
At that moment, she finally understood what was so special about her. Brittany was simply out of her league.
She licked her lips, pleading, “Can you please stop contacting William?”
Brittany frowned, “What?”
“I know it’s unreasonable, but I’ve always been bothered by your previous relationship with William. For the sake of
our marriage, can you step out of our lives?”
Brittany was dumbstruck.
In truth, she hadn’t had any contact with William since he got married.
“Ms. Salter, you’re imagining things. William is not just my ex, but also a close friend. I owe him a lot. I never
intended to interfere with your lives, nor did I plan to rekindle anything. I’ll try to limit private contact, but it’s
impossible to cut him off completely. We share mutual friends on Facebook, and public encounters are unavoidable.
But I promise you, I won’t reach out to him privately.”
Having said her piece, Brittany turned and left.
Carla watched her retreating figure, a sense of unease creeping up on her.
As Brittany and Kari left, Kari whispered to her, “Does Ms. Salter really like Mr. Dillion? She didn’t even stand up for
him when people were badmouthing him. She was doing nothing to keep his reputation from falling apart.”
‘I don’t know,” Brittany wasn’t one to comment on other people’s affairs, “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
After dropping Kari off, Brittany picked up Daniel and went back to their house at Radiant Residences.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmShe cooked dinner herself and stayed with Daniel until she fell asleep.
Isaac came home a little drunk.
Brittany pretended not to notice. Their relationship had hit rock bottom lately, and Isaac’s attempts to make
amends had been met with indifference.
Brittany bypassed him, heading to the kitchen. When she returned, she held a warm glass of milk. Isaac leaned
against the wall, his eyes a mix of confusion and frustration as he curiously asked, “Did you have a fight with
Carla?”
Had Carla tattled?
The thought flashed through Brittany’s mind as she sipped her warm milk, and without providing an answer, she
questioned him, “Did she tell you?”
“Everyone knows what William did. You defended him, and his wife is naturally upset.”
Not wanting to argue with him on that topic, Brittany turned to leave.
Isaac watched her retreating figure, inexplicably feeling a headache coming on. Almost Instinctively, he reached
out to wrap his arms around her waist. “Don’t move.”
