Chapter 684
Daniel usually went to bed at around 10 p.m., but that night, he was still awake at 11.
“Mom said she would come to the Parent-Child Sports Day with me this weekend. Can you come too, Dad?”
His voice was barely audible as he finished his sentence, because he feared rejection.
Isaac looked at his son’s innocent face and replied, “Of course.”
Daniel’s eyes lit up. He wanted to hug Isaac but remembered what his etiquette teacher had taught him about
manners.
“Thank you, Dad.”
Isaac nodded in approval, signaling him to head upstairs.
Daniel obediently went to his room.
Brittany watched the interaction between father and son. It was more like a boss and his employee than a parent
and child.

“He’s getting older. It’s about time,” Isaac replied, loosening his tie. His eyes held a hint of darkness as he continued
to say, “I started there when I was just three. Daniel has been too unruly these past few years. It’s time for him to
go.”
Selective School was considered the best school in their social circle. The tuition fee was a six-figure sum, and the
curriculum was tailored to each student’s needs. For Daniel, it wasn’t just about academics but also about learning
etiquette, playing musical instruments, horse riding, chess, and even tea ceremonies.
Those schools catered to the elite, producing heirs to the prominent families in Imperial City.
“I think he’s still a child. He should at least have a happy childhood,” Brittany countered, “We could consider a
private school. Both the teaching quality and the
environment are first-class.”
Isaac was surprised that Brittany actually cared about Daniel’s education. There was a moment of astonishment,
but he quickly shook his head and described the situation, “He’s going to take over the Salter family business. He
needs to get used to that sooner rather than later.”
He had started working in the company when he was just fifteen or sixteen, handling billion-dollar projects by the
age of seventeen. Daniel was already five. Compared to his peers, he was behind.
Brittany wanted to keep on arguing, but Isaac suddenly softened his tone, saying, “There’s no room for negotiation
on this. It’s for Daniel’s own good. Besides, I -think he wants to go to Selective School too.”
Brittany knew that she couldn’t change his mind, so she left the room without saying anything more.
“Let’s go back together for the family dinner tomorrow night.”
Brittany didn’t even turn her head as she went upstairs. She went to Daniel’s room. He was still awake, so he asked
her, “Mom, why are you here?”
“I came to see if you were asleep.” Brittany walked over to his bed and sat down, and then calmly asked, “Do you
want to go to Selective School?”
Daniel, hugging his tiny dinosaur plushie, nodded in agreement, “Yes.”
He looked serious and nodded obediently.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBrittany was surprised that he wanted to go. After a little pause, she asked again just to confirm, “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Daniel was really serious, “Dad discussed it with me. I want to go there, learn more, grow up faster, and then
protect you.”
His dad had told him that boys should stand tall and learn as much as they can to protect those they cared about.
“I want to be like Dad.”
Daniel frowned, remembering how his dad was always stern and strict with him. But he still regarded Isaac as the
best person he knew.
Brittany had to marvel at the power of genes. Isaac was ambitious and always strove for perfection, and Daniel,
despite his young age, was no different from his father.
“Then, promise me that you’ll do your best at Selective School. And when you’re home, you can relax. Do whatever
you want to do. I want you to have a happy childhood, okay?”
Daniel rolled over and asked, “Will you sleep with me, Mom?”
How could Brittany refuse such an affectionate proposal from that little guy?
“Sure.”
After a shower, she cuddled Daniel, telling him a bedtime story. Daniel lay in her arms, his eyes filled with
happiness.
Outside the door, Isaac heard the woman’s voice, a flicker of darkness passing through his eyes.
