Chapter 814
In just over a month, Brittany had secured several major contracts, propelling the Dustin
Group to new heights.
It was Saturday evening.
Brittany had been invited to an industry mixer, accompanied by a few executives from the
Dustin Group
Holding a glass of champagne, Brittany was engrossed in conversation with a business
associate when she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure.
“Ms. Dustin, I heard Ms. Joie is now working for Mr. Salter’s company?”
The business associate, who had also noticed Joie, recalled industry gossip, saying,
“Rumor has it Ms. Joie is quite the asset at work. In a short time, she has made significant
contributions to their success.”
Leveraging her experience in the entertainment industry, Joie had executed several
successful marketing campaigns that had taken her new company to greater heights.
Brittany was aware of this development.
“So it seems.”
“Ms. Dustin, you and Mr. Salter are known to be close, but it’s still worth being cautious.”
The rumor mill had been buzzing with stories, weaving tales of Joie’s deep-seated
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtaffection for Isaac. On the sidelines, there were even those who enjoyed pairing the two
together.
Brittany chuckled softly. “Thank you, I’m well aware.”
She hadn’t expected Joie to be so capable; it seemed she had underestimated her.
After a few more rounds of drinks, Brittany felt a bit tipsy and excused herself to visit the
restroom.
Isaac was out of town on business and couldn’t pick her up that evening.
She texted her assistant to arrange a ride for herself.
As she exited the restroom, Brittany almost ran into Joie.
“Something on your mind?”
Joie, riding high on her recent successes, seemed to have some free time to confront her.
Looking down at Brittany, Joie said, “I just wanted to let you know that I’m over Isaac. You
don’t need to be so defensive about me!”
“Well, that’s perfect. I’ll have Grandma set you up with some eligible bachelors, Brittany
played along with Jole’s assertion.
Joie’s face turned pale, and after a long pause/she retorted with resentment, “Brittany, it
was you who ruined Isaac, costing him Grandeur Capital. How do you even have the nerve
to reconcile with him?”
“That’s between him and me, none of your business, Brittany replied firmly. “Joie, instead
of obsessing over this, focus on securing your position at the company.”
Her words were as sharp as a knife.
In the corporate world, not all publicity is good publicity.
Joie reveled in her success, having thrived within the company. Supported by the Salter
family, who would dare cross her?
“You needn’t worry about me.”
After the mixer, on her way home, Brittany received a call from Grace. “Bri, come over for
dinner tomorrow night.”
“Sure.”
Brittany had a few drinks in the evening, and her tone was less than cheery. Grace sensed
something was off and said, “I’ll have Emily prepare you some food. Get some rest
tonight.”
“Thanks, Grandma.”
After hanging up, Brittany arrived home where her assistant escorted her upstairs. Emily
was already there with a bowl of chicken soup.
“Ms. Dustin.”
Emily carefully fed the soup to Brittany, who after finishing it, drifted into a heavy sleep.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLuckily, it was the weekend, and Brittany slept in until the afternoon. After freshening up,
she took Daniel to the Salter Manor.
This time, Joie was also present.
Lately, Joie had been currying favor with Grace, and although Grace was somewhat
displeased, she hadn’t been too harsh.
As Daniel walked in, he ran to Grace acting adorably affectionate.
A shadow of malice flickered in Joie’s eyes.
But in the next moment, she reached out to Daniel with a smile, “Aren’t you the
sweetest…”
“Don’t touch me!”
“Don’t touch him!”
Daniel and Brittany spoke in unison.
Daniel didn’t hide his dislike for Joie, puffing up his cheeks in protest.
Brittany entered the living room, saying, “Daniel just woke up; he’s a bit grumpy. It’s best
not to bother him.”
Joie’s face flushed with embarrassment. Who heard of someone being grumpy after
sleeping in till the afternoon?
If she had known this little troublemaker was such a handful, she would have dealt with
him once and for all from the start!
