reporters can be petty! You’ve challenged them. Who knows what kind of spiteful stories

they’ll cook up behind your back?”

Allison offered a wry smile. “So, you think I’m supposed to be silent all the time?”

Patty was momentarily taken aback. Allison had always been compliant, and Patty had

always seen her as a gentle, easy-to-talk-to celebrity. She knew Allison had some

intimidating financial backers, so Patty treated her with respect to her face while secretly

hoping to use Allison’s influence to cement her own status. It was the urgency of the

situation that had made her tone harsher than intended.
