Chapter 1361 Hertha’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly averted her gaze, unable to hold Lysander’s piercing stare any longer.
The man was downright horrifying. Even a single second of eye contact was enough to send shivers down her spine and nearly induce a panic attack.
She hurriedly started her car, a sleek and inconspicuous sedan, and took off down the street. She had considered going back to help Thalassa, but it seemed now that her presence would only complicate matters.
Lysander, although cold and detached towards Thalassa, had never truly harmed her.
At most, he had left Thalassa bedridden after bedroom activities, something that, in the grand schof things, was a private matter between the two of them.
Lysander wouldn't really hurt Thalassa.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIf Hertha insisted on staying, she might only distract her friend, making it harder for Thalassa to stand up to Lysander. So, it was best for her to leave.
Hertha drove away, leaving the drama in her rear-view mirror.
Thalassa returned inside the cozy home, helping her aunt shuck corn in the kitchen.
Suddenly, the sound of a car engine caught her attention, and her ears perked up. She listened closely-yes, someone was driving in! Could it be Hertha coming back? Thalassa hurried outside, hoping to continue their unfinished conversations, to share a bed with Hertha like old times, hiding under the blankets and whispering “Ha But as soon as she stepped out and saw the black Rolls-Royce in the courtyard, her smile froze.
She turned on her heel to head back inside.
“Thalassa!” The deep, magnetic voice called from behind her, filled with an inherent authority.
Thalassa stopped in her tracks, her breathing erratic. Her once calm demeanor was now a whirlpool of agitation.
Her heart sank, ached, and felt as if it was stung by a bee-sharp and raw pain.
The hands by her sides clenched, and she took a deep breath.
The air around her seemed to chill as a familiar scent of sandalwood drifted to her, a signature fragrance of the man she knew all too well.
1/2 09:16 Without looking back, Thalassa knew Lysander had approached. His cold aura and domineering presence were enough to make her breathing hitch.
“I've been abroad on business this past month, only got back this morning,” Lysander’s voice was low and soothing, yet it did little to calm the storm within Thalassa.
He hadn't stayed away because he wanted to, nor had he forgotten her or their children.
It was just that after the last visit to Hollowbrook, his grandfather had piled on a heap of overseas work.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWhat was meant to be three months’ worth of work, he crammed into one by working overtime, day and night.
And as soon as he was finished, he rushed back home.
Without rest, he had hurried here.
He knew his grandfather was worried he would seek out Thalassa again and wanted him to go abroad to cool down, to forget her.
But how could one forget a person who had settled so deeply in the heart in such a short time? Hearing Lysander’s explanation, a sharp pain shot through Thalassa’s breath. She didn’t turn around, her voice cold and clear. “The kids are still at daycare. They haven't returned yet. You might want to wait.” With that, she began to walk back inside.
She had said before that if Lysander wanted to see the kids, he was welcanytime.
Thus, she wouldn't stop him from interacting with them. But she didn’t want anything more to do with him herself.
She attributed his arrival to his desire to see the children and nothing to do with her.
Just as Thalassa took a few steps, her wrist was seized in a firm grip, the calloused h with its familiar rough texture, causing a jolt of electricity to shoot through her skin, painfully tingling.
Thalassa reacted sharply, trying to pull her hand away. “Mr. Sinclair! Please, keep your distance!”
