Chapter 753
She set down her fork, quickly rallying her four little ones into action and gathering the goodies meant for their grandmother. They were setting off.
By the time everything was packed, Lysander’s car had already sped off from Royal Estates.
It seemed he wouldn’t be joining them back to Vibrant Oasis Residences.
Which was just as well, as his absence made for a lighter atmosphere, much to Thalassa’s relief.
The usual SUV that shuttled the children to school was parked in the yard. Fitch stood by it to help the kids on board. Once Thalassa had climbed in, Fitch closed the door and instructed the driver to take it easy on the road.
In no time, they had arrived at Vibrant Oasis Residences.
Thalassa disembarked with her kids and returned home.
Pushing the door open, the house was eerily quiet. Evelyn was nowhere to be seen.

A pang of worry hit Thalassa. Where could Evelyn have gone? Maybe she was entangling with Bruce again?
“Hey, where’s Grandma?” Dorian asked curiously.
As soon as he spoke, the door to one of the rooms swung open and out came Evelyn, her face flushed with excitement. “My little cherubs are home,” she cooed, “come give Grandma a hug. I’ve missed you so.”
She made a beeline for the kids who ran over to meet her halfway.
Evelyn enfolded all four in her arms, showering kisses on their innocent faces. Tears welled up in her eyes, “My precious little ones, you’ve grown so much and you’re all so adorable. Even when Grandma’s not around, you’re doing so well. Oh, I’m such a good-for-nothing.”
Thalassa could sense something off with Evelyn’s mood. When no one was home, she had locked herself in her room.
And now she was calling herself a good-for-nothing.
“Mom, you’re anything but a good-for-nothing. Do you think these kids could have turned out so cute and adorable if it weren’t for your care? They’re growing up and needing to be independent,” Thalassa comforted Evelyn.
Thalassa felt a sour pang of sadness in her heart as well when she first realized that her kids could sleep soundly without her or Evelyn’s company. But she had soon come to terms with it. Kids did grow up and become independent.
To love them was to respect their independence and to let go when necessary.
Evelyn wiped away her tears, “Yes, they should learn to be independent anyways, just like you. You are a self-reliant woman who doesn’t need a mother. And here I am, always causing you trouble.”

“How are you causing me trouble? You raised me, and now I can hold my own. That’s all because of your upbringing. If I had to stand by and watch you in trouble without being able to do anything, that would be a failure, Thalassa responded with a gentle voice.

With all that had happened recently, Thalassa was afraid Evelyn would dwell on it too much and it could affect her emotionally.
Hearing Thalassa’s words, Evelyn finally broke into a smile. She quickly changed the subject, “Can the kids stay here for a few days? I want to spend some more time with them before I find a job. No matter how small the pay, it’ll help pass the time.”
‘Sure, I’ll call Lysander and let him know, Thalassa agreed.
Evelyn thinking in this way was the best possible outcome. As long as she could step out of the shadow of Bruce’s deceit, Thalassa would be relieved.
In the afternoon, Evelyn sat with the kids and was engrossed in a TV show.
As dusk approached, Thalassa, fearing Lysander would pressure her to bring the kids home, retreated to her room, closed the door, and dialed Lysander’s number.
Unlike before, when the phone would ring endlessly before being answered, it was picked up almost immediately.
Even over the phone, Lysander’s intimidating, oppressive aura was palpable.
Thalassa was instinctively nervous. “My mom would like the kids to stay here for a few days. Fitch can pick them up after they finish school next Monday. Is that okay?”
