Chapter 924
The assistant’s heart skipped a beat as she clamped her mouth shut, her fingers trembling as she called for an
ambulance.
Before long, Bruce was carted away by the ambulance.
Thalassa was at home, sharing a cozy dinner with Evelyn when her phone buzzed with a message.
She snatched up the device, her eyes wide with panic. Ever since Bruce sent her that disturbing video, she had
been on high alert, terrified that Bruce, in his lack of humanity, might send another video to threaten her.
She had deleted the video from Bruce the moment she stepped out of the coffee shop.
If he sent another one and Evelyn accidentally saw it…
She couldn’t bear to think of the consequences.
Noticing the message wasn’t from Bruce, but from the bank, Thalassa exhaled in relief.
The bank notification showed a deposit with a leading digit of 5 followed by a string of zeroes.
At first, Thalassa thought it was her paycheck, maybe five thousand, but on closer inspection, the zeroes seemed to
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtmultiply. Good heavens, it was fifty million!
She thought she miscounted and double-checked the zeros. Still, fifty million!
What in the world? Who would transfer fifty million to her?
She immediately logged into her mobile banking app to check the transaction history.
The record showed that it was a transfer from a luxury jewelry brand.
But she had no ties with a jewelry company. Why would they suddenly transfer fifty million to her?
Evelyn, sitting across the table, noticed Thalassa’s expression go from shock to confusion and asked with concern,
“Thalassa, what’s wrong, honey?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. Looks like there’s been a mix-up at work, money sent to my account by mistake. You go ahead
and eat, Mom. I need to make a quick call.” With that, Thalassa excused herself and retreated to her room with her
phone.
She dialed the jewelry company first.
“There’s been no mistake on our end,” the jewelry company clarified. “The account details were provided by Mr.
Sinclair, and it’s highly unlikely there was an error.”
Mr. Sinclair?
“Lysander?” Thalassa voiced her suspicion.
“Yes,” came the confident reply.
Thalassa was bewildered and asked, “Why would Lysander instruct you to transfer fifty million to me?”
“Well, Mr. Sinclair had a custom cloud pendant necklace made with us. Today, it appeared at our counter, possibly
picked up by someone intending to sell it. When Mr. Sinclair discovered this, he confronted the person, gave him a
good talking to, and melted the necklace on the spot. We treated it as a buy-back from our company, and Mr.
Sinclair instructed us to transfer the proceeds to your account.”
Despite the clerk’s brevity, Thalassa grasped the gist of the events.
She felt out of sorts, struggling to process the clerk’s words momentarily. Nevertheless, she latched onto the key
detail- the cloud pendant necklace.
The fifty million was the result of the necklace’s value..
“Do you know who tried to sell the necklace?” she asked.
“We’re not aware of the person’s identity,” the clerk admitted.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Alright, thank you.” Thalassa didn’t press further; there was no point.
After hanging up, she reopened the bank’s text message, and upon seeing the fifty million displayed, she felt a bit
bewildered.
The money wasn’t tainted; it was the value of the cloud pendant necklace she’d always worn.
Yet, she inadvertently left the necklace on the shoe cabinet in the entryway of Vibrant Oasis Residences. How could
it have been taken and sold?
Was it possible that, upon reclaiming the property, the landlord realized the necklace’s worth and decided to sell it
without authorization?
Such folly. The necklace had a tracker, and any movement would alert Lysander immediately.
She’d been so preoccupied the past few days and forgotten about the necklace. Now, it seemed, the necklace was
destined to be melted down and reformed,
Perhaps this was for the best. She no longer had to wear that constant monitor around her neck. A sense of relief
washed over her.
It was as if shackles had been removed from her feet, and someone told her she’d never have to bear the weight
of those heavy irons again. The freedom was palpable.
