Avery lost her balance when Zachary grabbed her and ended up falling back into her seat.
The boy's racing heart was more than enough to tell her how afraid he was at that moment.
Heartbroken to see Zachary burst into tears, Avery patted the boy on the head.
Then she saw blood on the thick bandage around Zachary's knee.
Avery had already noticed the boy's injury when he walked in, but she did not think it was serious since
he did not wear a cast.
“Are you okay?” Brodie was worried that Avery had hurt herself because of the fall.
However, he was relieved to learn that the seat had absorbed most of the impact.
Brodie wanted to advise the seemingly strange boy to go with the man in the suit and leave Avery
alone, but before he could do that, his phone rang.
“Yes, Mr. Perry?” greeted Brodie.
“Are you playing hooky, Brodie? Do you know what time it is now?” shouted Brodie's superior over the
phone.
“You should go. I can handle this,” assured Avery, who got anxious.
Staring into Avery's eyes, Brodie hesitated for a moment before voicing, “Call me if you need anything.”
In response to that, Avery nodded.
Brodie glanced at the boy's father when he walked past the man.
However, he did not get a chance to say anything because the man had turned around and left with the
girl after glaring at the boy, who refused to leave.
The girl, too, was obviously reluctant to go with the man.
Even though Brodie disagreed with the man's methods, he did not think it was wise to meddle in other

Bentley RV before returning to the restaurant.
Brodie took one last look in the direction of the restaurant after getting into a taxi and saw the man walk
over to where Avery was to drag the boy out by force.
The taxi driver then drove away, and Brodie was relieved that the man had removed the boy from
Avery.
“I'm not going. I don't want to go home with you because you're cold-blooded!” Since Zachary was a
boy, he was able to put up more of a fight than his sister.
While pitying the children, Avery nervously looked outside the restaurant to see if Brodie was still
around, concerned that the man might hear something he should not.
She thanked Brodie's superior inwardly when she realized the man was finally gone.
Avery was convinced that she would never be with Cayden again, so she had already decided to focus
on building a new life for herself.
Right then, the waiter approached to rearrange the table Zachary had knocked out of place.
While the waiter cleaned up the mess, Avery picked up her bag and headed to the counter to pay the
bill.
“The gentleman with you just now has already paid,” informed the lady at the counter with a smile.
Suddenly, the man who had dragged the boy out returned for the yellow cartoon suitcase left at the
counter.
With one hand still holding his son, Cayden extended the other to pick up the suitcase. Never once did
he spare Avery a glance.
Hence, the woman was ready to walk away in silence.
“Save me, Ms. Ery! I don't want to go; I don't want to live with Daddy,” begged Zachary pitifully. He
stretched out his hand while violently kicking his feet around, dirtying his father's suit.
The staff members of the restaurant exchanged looks when they realized the child knew the woman.
Why else would he call her Ms. Ery?
After looking at his desperate son and the seemingly indifferent Avery standing a few meters away,
Cayden suddenly lost his temper. With his head lowered, he roared, “If you keep this up, I'll disown
you!”
“Then disown me,” responded Zachary, who wanted nothing more than that.
Avery was not actually indifferent to the situation; she just did not want to get involved. However, it took
her some time to finally decide to walk away and pretend as though she could not hear anything.
Whatever happened to Zachary's knee, I'm sure Cayden will take care of it.
“Why are you leaving me, Ms. Ery?” Zachary cried even louder and fought even fiercer against his
father. Because of that, Cayden got so furious that he immediately tossed the suitcase in his hand
aside.
Crack! The lock on the suitcase was damaged when it hit the ground.
After successfully breaking free once again, Zachary went straight for Avery. “Please don't leave me,
Ms. Ery!”
Avery intended to hurry out of the restaurant, but before she could do so, Zachary had managed to
grab her leg.
The woman then turned around and noticed that Zachary had fallen because he had run too fast. Both
his left leg and left arm were scraped in the process.
Since his right knee was already seriously injured, Zachary ended up with both his knees wounded.
Heartbroken, Avery lowered herself to hug the boy before gazing at him with teary eyes.

She adored the children and even thought about marrying Cayden so that she could take care of them
with the man.
However, fate would not have it so.
Avery was worried that she would cry if she looked into Zachary's welled-up eyes, so she lowered her
head to press her forehead against the boy's instead. “You have to stop this.”
She knew she could not just take the children with her because they were not old enough to decide
who they wanted to live with. Rory and Zachary are Cayden's flesh and blood, not orphans put up for
adoption.
“You won't leave us, right, Ms. Ery?” asked Zachary innocently. Even though his limbs were scraped
and bleeding, the boy tried his best to ignore the pain and stop crying.
Avery shook her head in response but dared not overdo it because she was afraid that she would hurt
the boy emotionally again.
In the restroom of the restaurant, two waitresses were gossiping while washing their hands.
“What's up with that Ms. Ery? Why would she pick the white-collar worker over that eligible bachelor?”
“Just because that guy's rich doesn't mean he's husband material,” stated one of them while drying her
hands. “First of all, the man has two children, which means she'll be a stepmother if she decides to
marry into the family. Not every woman wants that, and it's totally understandable. Besides, the rich
man has anger management issues. He threw the suitcase and even dragged his son away by force.
He's anything but gentle.”
“You can put all the blame on the father. I mean, just imagine how he must've felt when his own child
insisted on staying with the woman instead of leaving with him. On top of that, the woman was seeing
another guy. Given the same situation, any man in the right mind would, too, lose their temper.” The
other waitress tried to defend the father.
“I see your point.”
After the conversation, the waitresses both left the restroom.
