Chapter 500 Passionate Kisses
Holding his cigarette between his fingers, Cayden tapped it elegantly on the ashtray beside him. “Do whatever it
takes to bring him in and find out who the mastermind is.”
His deep and insidious voice sounded melodious, and yet, was capable of sending a chill down anyone's spine.
“Understood.” Xavier nodded in acknowledgment.
He could clearly sense the rage his boss was harboring.
With that, Cayden returned to the ward.
Due to Blake's advanced age and weak health, Alina had to send him back home.
Avery, after comforting Nina, had Xavier drive the latter home once she had managed to calm down.
Soon, Cayden and she were the only ones left in the ward. That was when she stared intently at him.
Cayden looked distinguished in his casual outfit, while his chiseled features were accentuated by the light in the
room, making for a mesmerizing sight.
This man is really attractive but has too many women around him.
She couldn't help but remember the coy female voice she heard over the phone when he was attending the
banquet.
Feeling the urge to ask him about it, she moved her pale lips but in the end, decided against it.
Since she had once declared that she would trust him unconditionally, she refused to let her paranoia get the better
of her.
Sensing that she had something to say, Cayden walked up to her bed and sat down beside her. Thereafter, he
gently pulled her feeble body into his embrace.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWith the passage of time, she had become his safe harbor. Holding her in his arms would always trigger a sense of
warmth within him.
It was as if Avery had melted into his very being. Everything she did would emotionally affect him in one way or
another.
“What's wrong? Are you worried about Nina? Don't be. Other than being terrorized by Xander, she wasn't harmed
in any way. Xander won't dare cross the line with me around.” Holding her tightly in his arms, Cayden comforted
her, thinking that she was still worried about what happened to Nina.
“I know. I can't thank you enough for today.” Burying her face in his chest, she hugged him tightly, as if she was
worried that she would lose him.
Knowing Avery like the back of his hand, he immediately understood her fears when he noticed how tight she was
hugging him.
As he lifted her chin, he was stunned to see the sadness in her crystal-clear eyes.
All of a sudden, he remembered Nicole interrupting his call with Avery during the banquet.
A flurry of passionate kisses then landed on Avery's forehead.
While kissing her, Cayden explained, “I attended Old Mrs. Lambert's birthday today at the Lambert residence. While
I was speaking to you on the phone, it was Nicole you heard over the line. I was there just to put on an act with her.
All she did was hold my arm today, but I have washed myself many times in a nearby hotel and made sure her
scent was gone. Why don't you give it a sniff? I'm sure you can smell the fragrance of my shower cream.”
When Avery saw how earnestly Cayden was trying to explain himself to the extent of rolling up his sleeve so she
could take a whiff, the unease in Avery's heart gradually faded.
Holding his hand, she fiddled with his long and clean fingers before breaking into a smile. “I trust you. As I have said
before, my faith in you is unwavering no matter what you do. I'm not going to go around chasing shadows. It's just
that I can't help feeling sad despite the knowledge that it was just an act. Perhaps this is how loving someone feels.
We only want our loved ones to solely belong to us. Even when someone steals a glance at you, it feels as if they're
trying to take you away from me.”
Love was a strange phenomenon that bound the hearts of two people together as if it was some kind of poison.
It would sometimes fill one with bliss while engulfing one in bitterness at other times. As long as one had it, one
would concurrently experience the contrasting emotions of happiness and sorrow.
Stroking Avery's tender cheeks, Cayden noticed that her complexion was so smooth that one couldn't spot any hair
follicles on it.
He planted a kiss on her cheek and promised her, “I understand how uncomfortable it made you feel, but rest
assured that I feel the same as you do. Every minute and second of maintaining the charade is torture to me. Once
all this is resolved, I will organize a grand wedding where you will officially become Mrs. Moore.”
“Mmm-hmm.” Wearing a vibrant smile, Avery nuzzled her face against his chest.
The next day, the twins insisted on visiting their mother once they heard that Avery was awake.
Cayden subsequently brought them to the hospital.
Holding Zachary's hand, Rory stood meekly by her mother's bed, all teary-eyed.
As soon as she called out “Mommy,” tears streamed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Avery motioned for her daughter to come over before wiping the tears off the little girl's face. “Stop crying,
Sweetheart. I'm fine.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRory was unable to calm herself down, for she was still a five-year-old after all. The sight of her mother's leg
covered in a plaster cast caused her to bite her reddish lip by reflex.
She couldn't stop blaming herself when she recalled how Avery ended up that way. If she hadn't insisted on going to
the restroom, her mother wouldn't have been hit by a car when trying to push her out of the way.
As Rory and Zachary lacked motherly love since they were young, Avery's appearance filled that void and also
satisfied their desire for familial bonds.
Given how much Rory was fond of her loving mother, she was worried that Avery would dislike her for being the
reason she was involved in the car accident.
Avery held her daughter's hand and noticed that the former hadn't combed her hair, which was unlike her. Rory had
always liked to look pretty since she was little. Every time she went out, she would doll herself up like a princess and
would make sure her hair was combed neatly.
This time, however, her hair was strewn all over her shoulders in a slightly messy manner. Nevertheless, they
accentuated her exquisite-looking face instead.
Truth be told, Nicole might love the twins a lot, but she couldn't help but be a little biased toward her daughter.
Zachary was exceedingly smart, independent, and barely needed any adult supervision.
As for Rory, being a girl made her more temperamental despite her intelligence. Having been spoilt by Cayden, she
possessed a more sensitive character.
Therefore, Avery had a softer spot for her daughter as compared to her son.
It was obvious from Rory's guilty expression that she was blaming herself for what happened. The look on her face
caused Avery's heart to ache.
Stroking Rory's head, Avery consoled her, “There, there. I'm really fine. Both of you are the greatest gifts God has
given me. I'll always love you no matter what. All that matters to me is that you're safe and healthy.”
Children were everything to their mothers.
Due to the fact that blood was thicker than water, Avery, as their mother, wanted to give them the best and would
subconsciously eliminate any hidden threats and dangers for their sake.
