Chapter 508 Gone To See Avery
Meanwhile, at the Lambert residence, Nicole parked her car in her own parking lot at the mansion and locked it.
Her face, which had always been unparalleled and exquisite, carried a certain air of exhaustion that could not be
concealed.
Nicole had not been in good shape throughout the filming today. Even though the director had not dared to bring it
up due to Nicole's status, it did nothing to hide the dissatisfaction on the director's face. His piercing frown seemed
to shoot through her, which made Nicole feel dazed and helpless.
Nicole truly wanted to ask Cayden for help and play coy with him. However, even though Cayden had agreed to
date her, Nicole knew deep down that they were nowhere near intimate.
Naturally, Nicole did not dare bother him as a result.
Nicole walked straight toward the living room in her heels but then ran into one of the housekeepers, Polly.
Polly noticed that Nicole seemed a little pale. “Is something the matter, Ma'am?” asked Polly with concern. “Are you
hungry? Mr. and Mrs. Lambert are not at home, but let me make you something for dinner.”
“There's no need for that. I'm not hungry right now,” replied Nicole listlessly. “Wait, where has Mom gone?'
Since childhood, Nicole had been used to her adoptive parents' busy schedules.
As their positions and careers expanded over time, they became busier as well.
Nicole would sometimes lament over why they never spent time with her, but she kept these complaints to herself
and confined them to the deepest parts of her heart. She pretended to be obedient and sensible because she also
enjoyed the status of being a part of the Lambert family, as well as the trappings of high society life.
Nicole naturally understood that since her adoptive parents spent less time with her, they also favored her even
more because she was so “well-behaved.”
“Mrs. Lambert went to the hospital to visit someone, so she might be back a little late. She specifically instructed
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtme to make anything you want to eat if you came home,” replied Polly kindly.
“Who has she gone to visit? At which hospital?” asked Nicole.
“Mrs. Lambert has gone to Gentle Care Hospital, but I'm not sure of who she's gone to visit. I noticed she prepared
some food personally, so I reckon that person must be quite important. But I also vaguely recall overhearing Mrs.
Lambert mentioning that the patient's surname was Rumpley,” said Polly.
Rumpley?
This specific surname ruffled Nicole's feathers quite easily. “Polly, who did you say it was? The surname was
Rumpley? Is it a woman? Is her name Avery Rumpley, by any chance?” asked Nicole sharply.
Polly was taken aback by Nicole's sudden change in demeanor. “I may have overheard Mrs. Lambert mention the
surname, but I can't verify the patient's gender,” said Polly with a shudder. “I haven't the slightest clue. If you really
want to know, it's best to call Mrs. Lambert and ask her.”
Nicole looked troubled.
She squinted at Polly before suppressing all her suspicion and went upstairs without another word.
If Mom has gone to see someone with the surname Rumpley, doesn't that mean she's gone to see Avery? If that's
the case, why has Mom gone to see my rival? She knows exactly who Avery is. None of this makes any sense!
Doesn't she care that I would be furious after hearing about this?
However, Nicole also felt optimistic about the situation. Claire was smart and unlikely to shoot herself in the foot. It
was possible that Claire was visiting an important client who coincidentally shared the surname Rumpley.
But can things really be so coincidental?
When Nicole went to her room, she lay on the bed, tossing and turning for some time.
In the end, she could not suppress her doubts and decided to call Claire.
When the call was connected, Nicole feigned concern and asked, “Mom, Polly told me that you went to the hospital
this afternoon. Is Grandpa's illness acting up again? Maybe I'll head over to his house and pay him a visit. What kind
of gift should I bring him?”
“Your grandpa is fine, Nickie. There's nothing to worry about. It's good that you want to pay him a visit, but I think
he'd be happy even if you don't bring a gift. I'm at the hospital to visit an important client, that's all. I'm a little busy
tonight and I'll be having dinner with my staff. You needn't wait for me,” replied Claire. Since she did not want Nicole
to dwell on the subject, Claire decided to gloss over the hospital visit.
“Is that so? I'll leave you to it then. Don't overwork yourself, or Dad and I will be very sad,” said Nicole thoughtfully.
She really wanted to ask if that client had the surname “Rumpley”, but she managed to resist the urge.
Claire was an exceptionally intelligent woman. She was going to be aware of Nicole's suspicions toward her if Nicole
continued to probe. As such, Nicole did not want to put herself in that situation.
After hanging up, Nicole was still highly suspicious of the whole incident. In fact, Claire's words did nothing to
dissuade her.
Nicole was determined to find out exactly who it was that Claire was visiting at the hospital. If it was actually a
client, then she was not going to say anything.
But what if it is Avery after all?
When Nicole thought of this, she felt like she was being driven into a bottomless abyss. The chill in her gaze also
turned even more ruthless and virulent.
I'm never going to let Claire be in contact with Avery. Not a chance!
Nicole suddenly recalled that Gentle Care Hospital was a private practice owned by Bonnie's father. She
immediately phoned her friend and asked Bonnie to look into the matter for her.
Bonnie was feeling very remorseful over having betrayed Nicole the last time. The former was also concerned that
Nicole was going to make things difficult for her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSince Nicole was the one who had made the request, Bonnie was happy to oblige and promised Nicole that she
would look into it.
There was a sinister grin on Nicole's face after she hung up. Since that id*ot Bonnie has dared to double-cross me,
I'll show that b*tch what's really coming for her once this is done!
...
After staying at the hospital for more than two weeks, Avery could finally return home.
Back at the mansion, Avery lay before the floor-to-ceiling windows and gazed at the green algae floating in the lake.
Beautiful fountains dotted the lake's surface, and she could also see swans taking flight as well as flower petals that
fell like snowflakes.
The scenery outside the window was like an oil painting. It was full of vigor as if the world was putting on a
performance just for Avery.
Avery was sitting on a recliner and looking up at everything outside, enjoying a rare moment of tranquility.
Cayden was very meticulous and thoughtful in making arrangements for her.
Avery did not just have bodyguards on guard to ensure her personal safety at all times. Here, she also had access
to the most authoritative private doctor to check in on her condition whenever she needed it. On top of that, Avery
also had a nutritionist come up with meal plans to satisfy her appetite each day.
Cayden had even hired a physiotherapist to help Avery with rehabilitation training.
Compared to the cold and impersonal service Avery had at the hospital, being at home felt much better.
Avery's ability to recover was quite strong. The wounds on her body had gradually healed, but she was still
distressed at needing to be in a wheelchair every day. On top of that, she had to take medicine and receive physical
therapy for two hours or so.
Throughout this period of time, Cayden had been very busy at work. Despite needing to work overtime till midnight
sometimes, Cayden tried his best to spend time with Avery.
Every week, Cayden often spared an afternoon or two to take strolls around the garden. He took it upon himself to
wheel Avery around in her wheelchair, and it became his duty to do so each time.
