Jeffrey was almost choked by his anger when he heard what his grandson said. This d*mn brat! Instead of trying to

fix the Moore family's relationship with the Lambert family, he's walking back the marriage! This is the exact

opposite of what I want! Is he planning to kill me by pissing me off?

“Ever since you were a child, I've taught you to be a man of your word, Cayden. I raised you to be a man who takes

responsibility for his actions, yet look at what you're doing right now. Do you want to be a man who breaks his

promise? Do you want the Moore family to be castigated behind our backs? No matter what, you must proceed

with the engagement with Nicole tomorrow!” Due to how irritated he was, his face was covered with veins, and his

voice was scarily deep. Truth be told, I don't give a d*mn if my grandson is a heartless man or not. What I want are

the economic benefits his marriage with the daughter of the Lambert family will bring!

“The only person I'll marry in this life is Avery, Grandpa. I only agreed to the engagement with Nicole as a

temporary measure. Now, I don't need it anymore.” Cayden started smoking a cigarette right in front of his

grandfather's face. His indifferent attitude ticked Jeffrey off.

In response, the old man attempted to reason with his grandson and persuade him, “You're free to embarrass

yourself, but our family can't afford that! Every major news outlet has announced the union between the Moore

family and the Lambert family! Tomorrow, plenty of reporters will attend the engagement ceremony. If you don't do

it with Nicole, both of our families will be mocked and laughed at! Not only will you be destroying the life of an

innocent woman, but you'll also cause our family's stock to drop! Don't you care about any of that?”

However, Cayden had a heart of stone. He wouldn't change his mind once he had decided on something.

Instead, he uttered something infuriating. “You're old now, Grandpa. You should focus on enjoying your life instead

of worrying about these things. Getting angry isn't great for your body.”

“You unfilial brat!” Jeffrey was so heated that he was shaking.

Upon lifting his cane, he attempted to hit it on Cayden's body, but Allie stopped him.

“Your body's not in a great condition, Dad! Don't get angry.” Allie then turned to her son and reprimanded him in a

high-pitched tone, “How can you speak to your grandfather like this, Cayden? What if he got sick after getting too

angry? Are you going to let your grandpa die for that outsider, Avery? Do you really plan to go against your family

for her?”

“I seem to recall stating that I won't marry Nicole multiple times!” growled Cayden impatiently.

Jeffrey took in a deep breath.

Knowing how stubborn his grandson was, he decided to relent a little. “What will it take for you to marry Nicole?”

Cayden knitted his eyebrow. Has Grandpa finally decided to negotiate? Still, I don't have the patience for this

anymore.

Hence, he uttered, “My marriage isn't a bargaining chip. I suggest you all give up.”

Still, Jeffrey continued to persuade him, “You're an intelligent child, Cayden. You understand what Nicole's

background represents better than I do. Her father is climbing up the ladder, and her mother's business is powerful

enough to go toe to toe against Trident Group. Trident Group will significantly benefit from your marriage with

Nicole. What are you not happy with?”

While the Lambert family's enterprise was still incomparable to Trident Group, it was pretty formidable under

Claire's astute management in the industry. Additionally, the one to inherit that enterprise would, of course, be

Nicole.

Jeffrey was sharp enough to notice Nicole didn't know how to run a business, even if she was somewhat clever. He

was confident that she was just a pretty, empty vase who couldn't manage Claire's enterprise.

Therefore, if Cayden were to marry Nicole, the Lambert family's enterprise would eventually fall into his hands.

When that happened, Trident Group would enter a whole new level.

Jeffrey was born into a prestigious, business-oriented family, so he valued profit over everything else. William has a

vast influence within the government. With his support, Trident Group will only reach even greater heights! I don't

care who Cayden marries as long as it's a daughter of the Lambert family! Her background is what I want! If Avery

is the daughter, I won't object to his marriage with her at all, even if she has an awful reputation! It's unfortunate

for her that she's from a family that can't bring any benefit to our family!

Cayden exhaled a mouthful of smoke. “Do you think I'm not capable enough to expand Trident Group, Grandpa? Do

I need to marry a woman to do so? Frankly, I think Trident Group is developing well. There's no need to seek instant

benefits. Besides, you're the one who desires the company's expansion, not me.”

A frigid look swirled in Jeffrey's eyes. “So, you're certain you want to break off the engagement?”

Cayden put out the cigarette. “I don't want to repeat myself.”

“Cayden, you should listen to your grandfather. We won't hurt you—” Allie wanted to keep persuading him, but she

was interrupted by the old man.

“No need to waste any more words on him!” spat Jeffrey. “Let's go! I hope this brat won't regret his decision in the

future!”

With his bodyguards' aid, he left the mansion with Allie.

Later, Cayden called someone in the living room and listened to a detailed report.

Once the call ended, his knitted eyebrows relaxed. Finally, it's time to execute the plan I've been preparing for so

long. Sid should be back soon. Tomorrow, a tough battle awaits!

Upon returning to the second floor, he saw Avery holding a thick stack of something and laughing with the children.

Cayden was a little confounded when he saw the usual admiration and love weren't present in Avery's eyes as she

stared at him.

Seconds later, his line of sight landed on the stack of paper. Suddenly, his typically composed countenance

reddened.

At the very top of the stack was his sixth-grade essay with the title, My Wonderful Family.

He recalled he only wrote: I don't have a wonderful family. It was something he did out of spite because he didn't

have a proper or wonderful family during his childhood. Even his mother abandoned him at an orphanage.

Of course, his teacher gave him a zero for the essay.

The rest of the stack was his past papers from other subjects. All of them had terrible grades.

Ever since Cayden was a child, he knew his mother was someone's mistress. People would often insult him, and call

him a bast*rd, which was profoundly traumatizing for him.

Back then, he hated studying and going to school. In fact, he intentionally allowed himself to let loose. Therefore,

he only received a single-digit grade on all his papers in almost every exam.

Obviously, he was embarrassed that his bad records were in the hands of his family.

As Cayden's cheeks burned, he thought, I wish I could burn those papers right now! How will I be able to establish

authority in front of the children now that they've seen my terrible grades?
