Sitting beside him, munching on a fresh batch of popcorn, William snickered, “Is Uncle Leopold really all that? Has he broken up with Lana, Katie, and Catherine?” Aurelia explained, “Actually, they were all just playing parts in Leopold's little charade, nothing more than coworkers in a romantic play.” William pouted, realizing more and more that Aurelia was taking Leopold's side.
Kane covered his mouth to hide a giggle.
Looks like Aurelia and Leopold were truly back on track, cause for celebration indeed.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMunching on a buttery lobster puff, Aurelia seemed to ponder before asking in a low voice, “Does Geoffrey have any peculiar dislikes? Anything he absolutely can’t stand?” “He's terrified of cockroaches,” Skyler shared, “especially the huge flying ones. He might like keeping exotic pets, but he'd never keep a roach. Not a single one would be allowed in his place.” Aurelia couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Who would have thought the big, bad boogeyman Geoffrey was scared of cockroaches? Creatures that had survived since ancient times, resisting even nuclear radiation, yet could rattle Geoffrey.
William rubbed his arms, “I hate cockroaches too.” Even the mere mention of the word made his skin crawl.
Aurelia winked, a sly smile playing on her lips, “How about we head out to South Creek Valley for a weekend getaway?” “Sure,” Skyler nodded eagerly.
South Creek Valley, nestled in the picturesque Briarwood Hollow, was an idyllic spot, perfect for a vacation.
Aside from the four brothers, Skyler and Beverley had also calong. Nina and Mira were there too.
Noticing William and Kane's absence, Nina asked, “Aunt Aurelia, why didn’t you bring William and Kane along?” “They went to the film stuwith their uncle,” Aurelia replied nonchalantly, “Don’t worry, though, Skyler will keep you company.” Skyler smiled and nodded, “I'll take you guys out for sfun.” Fredric and Sheryl arrived separately, and upon meeting, their faces darkened, and neither spoke a word.
Beverley said, “Fredric, Sheryl, the kids are watching. Don’t do this in front of them. You've been a couple for so long, and can’t you be a bit more harmonious? If the family council won't let you divorce, you'll have to remain husband and wife for life.” The thought irritated Fredric.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThey all seemed to side with Sheryl. The wives of the Stirling family were known for their unity, banding together to fend off any threats to their marriages.
The situation was clearly not in his favor.
Nina hurried over, taking Fredric’s hand on one side and Sheryl's on the other, “Mom, Dad, please don’t fight. Mira and | don't like it when you argue.” Mira shook her head and waved her hands, “I don’t like it when Mom and Dad fight. | don’t want a stepmom, and all stepmoms are wicked.” Fredric’s brows furrowed, “Who taught you that?” “Snow White said so. Her stepmom was so wicked, always trying to poison her. And Cinderella’s stepmom was mean too, bullying her every day,” Mira said with wide, innocent eyes.
Fredric was helpless.
“You don’t have to worry. Even if your mom and | split, you'll still live with her, not needing to followand a stepmom.” He comforted the little ones.
Nina burst into tears, “Dad, don’t you want us anymore?” Fredric replied, “You're my kids, how could | not want you? I'll cto see you often.” Beverley quickly pulled Nina aside, “Fredric, we're here to have fun, not to dwell on these unpleasant matters. You're upsetting the children.” Aurelia sighed inwardly, “Divorce always hurts the children the most.” The misfortunes of a broken hcould cast long shadows over a child's life, potentially becoming scars that last a lifetime.
And Leopold had his childhood scars.
