Chapter 274 After dinner, Amold dropped Aurelia off at Rosewood Manor.
Leopold was standing on the balcony, watching her emerge from Arnold's car. The chill in his eyes intensified, as if all the icy winds of the north had gathered within him! He had been standing there for quite some time, motionless, his shadow seemingly etched onto the floor.
After being exposed to the chilly afternoon breeze, he had managed to regain some semblance of calm. However, the sight of the two together ignited a fury within him that was impossible to quell.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAs Aurelia entered, he was retrieving a bottle of chilled water from the fridge to cool his temper.
A wave of icy air hit Aurelia as she entered the hall, prompting her to shiver. Her intuition warned her that Leopold was in a bad mood, a red alert! She stole a glance at him and whispered, “I didn’t expect Arno to come back today. We're just friends, really. | won't get involved with him before our divorce.” But how could those words mollify Leopold? And that wasn't the only thing that was infuriating him.
After taking a gulp of water, he strode towards her, each step radiating anger and a cold intensity.
“Be honest with me, did you tell Jolin the truth?” A violent shudder coursed through Aurelia, causing her heart to pound furiously. Had he discovered something? “I... well...” She wanted to explain, but couldn't find the words. After stuttering a few words, her voice was caught in her throat.
Leopold's hand tightened around the water bottle, causing it to crumple with a loud crack.
“Are you playing games with me?” Aurelia felt an oppressive lump in her throat, the realization washing over her that he had unraveled her web of lies.
“I wanted to tell you, but when my mom found out about your engagement to Evelyn, | couldn't bring myself to. | said my mom was open-minded, but she’s not. She’s very traditional and set in her ways. She wouldn't accept a marriage of convenience like ours, let alone the fact that I'm supposed to get a divorce after giving birth. She would get angry, lose her temper, and even confront you.” She cast her eyes downwards, her long eyelashes casting a sorrowful shadow over her pale eyelids. Her mother was indeed very traditional, even holding onto the old—fashioned belief of more children is always better. That's why she had a younger brother.
Although her mother loved her and her brother equally, she knew that the family property and ancestral home would eventually belong to her brother. After she graduated from college, she would have to fend entirely for herself.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHer mother placed a strong emphasis on her marriage. She always said that marriage was a woman’s second life. When choosing a husband, one must be discerning and avoid bad men, average men, mama’s boys, and men with unrealistic expectations.
Her mother could never accept her getting a divorce after giving birth. In her mother’s eyes, that would be tantamount to ruining herself, becoming worthless.
Leopold squinted, emitting a chilling light.
“So, you lied to me? Do you think you're smart, that you can fool me with a few words?” 1/2 10:31 Chapter “No, no,” she shook her head vehemently, her voice tinged with a hint of servility. “I was afraid you'd get angry.” He scoffed, his voice laced with mockery, “It seems to me that you're not scared at all. I've been too lenient with you, making you think you can easily deceive me!” Lenient? A sense of melancholy welled up in her heart. The word sounded so fresh, yet it stung her ears. When had he ever been lenient with her? Such a privilege was only for his beloved, right? In front of her, he was always stern and indifferent, even a smile was hard to come by.
“I admit that | was wrong this time. | apologize. We're going to part ways soon. Can't we stop fighting?” Truth be told, she was scared. Scared of his coldness, scared of his contempt, and most of all, scared of his temper.
