Chapter 400
Rosalie dragged her suitcases and walked all the way to the nearest bus stop near the Youngblood residence. While
she was sitting on the bench, her phone rang.
Rosalie was stunned for a moment before pulling out her phone and discovering that Lillian was calling her. After
she saw the caller ID, Rosalie suddenly had the urge to cry.
When she pressed the answer button, Lillian’s familiar voice came from the other end. “Rosalie, are you at the
Youngblood residence right now? Callum and I are on our way there.”
Rosalie suddenly remembered that it was her birthday that day, and she had invited Lillian and Callum to join her in
celebrating her birthday that day.
However, there was no need to celebrate it
anymore.
“There is no need for you to come over. I have already broken up with Jonathan. There will be no birthday
celebration today,” Rosalie replied, her voice now bitter with each word.
Lillian was immediately taken aback. “Broken up? You and Jonathan have broken up? What happened? Wait, where
are you
now?”
Lillian was becoming concerned because everything had happened so suddenly.
Moreover, Rosalie’s voice on the phone was also calm.
It was precisely her calmness that made Lillian even more uneasy. She was well aware of her friend’s personality. It
would have been better if Rosalie had cried out loud and vented her emotions.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtRosalie’s calmness could only indicate that she was suppressing all of her pain.
In fact, Rosalie had always kept her pain to herself, never complaining or venting to anyone, just like she had done
while she was imprisoned years ago.
However, she became even more depressed as a result of that.
Rosalie was making slow but steady progress toward recovery, and Lillian did not want her friend to revert to the
state she was in right after being released from prison.
“Rosalie, where are you right now? Tell me!” Lillian urged anxiously.
Nonetheless, there was only silence on the other end of the phone.
“I’m going to have Callum check all the surveillance footage on the road if you do not tell me right away. I will also
notify the police and have them search the entire city for you. If necessary, I will even run a newspaper
advertisement…” Lillian rambled on, determined to find out Rosalie’s whereabouts.
She did not breathe a long sigh of relief until she finally heard Rosalie’s voice on the other end of the phone. “All
right, just wait for me. Do not go anywhere!”
After saying that, Lillian urgently turned on the navigation on her phone. “Quick, drive the car to this location.
Rosalie is there!” she said to Callum, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, as she pointed to the destination on her
phone’s map.
Callum started the car immediately, following the directions from the navigation.
“Rosalie and Jonathan broke up?” he asked, having overheard parts of the conversation earlier.
“Yeah. I do not know what happened exactly, and it’s hard to discuss on the phone. We will have to ask Rosalie
when we see her later. I can only hope she is not in any more trouble,” Lillian worriedly said, her body tensing up.
She thought Rosalie had already been through enough hardships, but now she was suffering even more than she
needed to. “Why is God treating Rosalie this way?” she wondered.
Suddenly, Lillian felt as if something heavy was pressing against her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe.
On the other side, Rosalie made a phone call to Amelia. “Ms. Haab, something has come up with today’s birthday
party, so please don’t bring Aiden over. I’ll come see you another day.”
Amelia was dumbstruck, and from Rosalie’s voice, she could sense that something was wrong. “What happened? Is
something wrong?”
“It’s just a minor issue. I’ll explain another day. Please apologize on my behalf to Aiden because we will not be able
to have cake today as promised. I will get him a cake another time,” Rosalie said, trying to sound natural.
“If you have
any problems, please contact me. Although I may not be able to help much, it’s good to have someone to discuss
things with,” Amelia said sincerely.
Rosalie was someone she considered to be her real friend.
She had moved away to avoid Warren and had lost contact with her previous friends since her release from prison.
Because
of that, she didn’t have any friends now.
Rosalie was basically her only friend at the time.
“Thank you, Ms. Haab. Don’t worry. I’m fine,” Rosalie said before ending the call.
“Yes, I’m fine. It’s just another breakup, and I have descended from heaven to hell once more. No, it’s not truly hell
yet because it’s still better than when I was wrongfully imprisoned back then,” she mused.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAt the very least, she was now free to go wherever she pleased, do whatever she pleased, and make her own
decisions rather than being confined behind iron bars, beaten and kicked by others, and living in fear every day.
Rosalie looked at her phone, which was the old one that she had not thrown away.
The new phone Jonathan had bought for her had been damaged the day before while she was on the mountain, so
she had put her SIM card back into her old phone.
She eventually left exactly as she had arrived, with her old phone, old clothes, old luggage, and old shoes.
It was like Cinderella, who would revert to her former self when the clock struck midnight.
Just then, a silver Porsche stopped on the side of the road next to the bus stop. Lillian quickly got out of the car and
rushed over to Rosalie. “Rosalie, you…”
Lillian’s eyes welled up with tears when she saw her best friend dressed in old clothes and carrying two suitcases.
“Today is supposed to be Rosalie’s birthday, a rare occasion for her to be happy. Why is she dressed like this now?”
she pondered.
Rosalie raised her head slowly and smiled softly at Lillian. “You’re here. I-I have moved out of the Youngblood
residence, but I’m not sure where to go
now.”
Her smile only made Lillian feel more heartbroken. “Come on. Let’s get in the car first,” Lillian piped up. After all,
the bus stop was not the place to talk.
At the same time, Callum got out of the car and assisted Rosalie in loading the two suitcases into the trunk.
After that, Lillian led Rosalie into the back seat of the car.
Lillian did not say anything in the car. She just held her best friend’s hand tightly. Rosalie’s hand was cold, despite
the fact that it was the hottest time of year.
Rosalie had nowhere to go because she had already terminated her lease on the rental home she had been staying
in.
Even though Callum found a hotel for Rosalie to stay in temporarily, she asked him to book a cheap inn for her.
