Chapter 630
“A loan?” Calvin was stupefied.
“That’s right, Mr. Gunner. The reason she blocked your car that day was also because she wanted to borrow money
from you. It seems like she needs 400 thousand dollars.” The security guard recalled. Calvin’s expression
transformed drastically at that.
“400 thousand dollars? Why would Rosalie want to borrow 400 thousand dollars out of the blue? Did something
happen?” The image of her despaired look right before he shut his eyes appeared in his mind
once more.
He had probably been her only hope in successfully loaning such a large sum back then.
However, what else did he do besides refusing it completely?
Calvin understood that she would never ask him to lend her money unless it was a last resort based on
her character.
Something he wasn’t privy to must have taken place.
This explained why she’d stood here the entire night to block his car without a care for her safety. It wasn’t for
Lucas’s sake and had to do with her needing the loan of 400 thousand dollars.
However, he’d believed Fiona and not gotten out of his car, departing without even hearing what Rosalie had to say.
Calvin wished for nothing more than to slap himself hard several times for his stupidity at that moment. “Why
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtwasn’t I willing to hear her out then!”
He retrieved his phone from his pocket, but it slipped to the floor with a loud crack when his fingers felt void of
strength.
Calvin squatted down to pick it up, but it took him several tries to succeed.
He struggled to locate the phone number he wanted from his contacts and dialed it. “Help me investigate
something. I need to know why…”
Calvin fell silent after the call ended. The tight grip he had on his phone betrayed his nerves.
Calvin’s phone rang after about half an hour.
Jonathan’s voice sounded from the other end of the line when Calvin answered it. “Mr. Gunner, I have results from
what you wanted me to investigate. Ms. Rosalie Leighton’s friend, Lillian, was seriously injured and hospitalized a
few days ago. Since her medical bill is exorbitant, Ms. Leighton probably visited you to raise funds for it. But Lillian
has already settled the bill this morning and transferred to a specialist hospital with the best neurology department
in Strico. Mr. Youngblood is the one who’s responsible for all that.”
Calvin felt as if he had the wind knocked out of him right then. “So this is the truth?” he remarked internally.
It turned out Rosalie had stood here for Lillian’s sake all night and placed all her hopes on Calvin.
Yet, Calvin had done nothing for that.
A bellow erupted from Calvin as he let out his frustration, startling Alan and the security guards beside him.
Calvin had always been regal and elegant before others. This was the first time he screamed hysterically like a
madman while slapping himself non-stop.
“Calvin, stop it!” Alan grabbed his hands hastily. “What are you doing?!”
Calvin looked like a heartbroken child torn between laughing and crying. “Alan… What should I do? I missed it…
Have I lost all my chances? It was only a few days… Why didn’t I believe what Rosalie said at that time? Why didn’t I
come down that day to listen to what Rosalie wanted to tell me? She sees me as her only hope amidst her despair,
yet I extinguished it with my bare hands…”
Calvin screamed and howled repeatedly in tears. Alan had never seen such a side to his good friend and could only
keep him company and try his level best to console him.
Rosalie washed up and walked out of the bathroom to Jonathan’s bedroom in the pajamas he had prepared for her
after dinner at the Youngblood residence.
Some of her personal belongings and clothes had been moved to this bedroom.
While the bedroom in front of her was not an unfamiliar sight, she had never slept in it before. The entire room was
decorated with a gray color scheme, making it look rather cold and sterile. Nonetheless, there were several red
objects placed within it on this day.
The red blankets, pillowcases, and trinkets caught Rosalie off guard.
“I really am married to Jonathan!” These red objects gradually cemented the fact that she was married. She
figured that Jonathan was likely in the bathroom instead of the bedroom as there was light shining out of it.
Rosalie’s phone rang just then, and she was greeted by Stephen’s voice from the speaker. “Is…is this Rosalie?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Yes, speaking,” Rosalie hurriedly answered. “Mr. Quinn, did you call me because something happened to Lillian
again? Is she in danger?”
Rosalie immediately began fretting over her best friend Lillian’s well-being.
After all, the doctor mentioned that Lillian’s condition remained critical after the surgery.
Stephen said,”Lillian is perfectly fine, so don’t worry. I just wanted to thank you for being so kind in helping her!”
Stephen expressed his gratitude sincerely. He and his wife Abigail used to be dissatisfied with Rosalie as they felt
she’d ruined their daughter’s future. Nonetheless, Rosalie, the one whom they used to loathe, was the one who
assisted Lillian after such a major incident.
Rosalie’s eyes turned red upon hearing Stephen’s words.
Abigail’s voice piped in from the other end of the line, “Rosalie, I was in a bad mood when I said such harsh things
to you back then. I hope you don’t take them to heart! I’m so relieved that Lillian has a friend like you. I must have
been blinded to have blamed you all this while.”
“You shouldn’t say that, Mrs. Quinn! There wouldn’t be a me of today if not for Lillian. Now that she’s just
transferred to another hospital today, I will visit her tomorrow as I couldn’t make it today,” said Rosalie. Abigail
answered, “Okay, do come over. Maybe Lillian’ll recover quicker when she senses you’re worried about her.”
Rosalie had no idea why she had an impulse to cry after the call ended.
Perhaps it was because Stephen and Abigail had finally forgiven her after all these years. Lillian would be overjoyed
to hear about it if she regained consciousness.
The rift Lillian had been trying to mend between her parents and Rosalie was restored at long last. Jonathan noticed
Rosalie’s puffy and misty eyes once he stepped out of the bathroom.
