Chapter 740
Every word spoken by the two men at that moment found its way into Rosalie’s ears, causing her to feel a sense of
absurdity. She couldn’t help but wonder why, even though she should have been privy to the truth, it now rested in
someone else’s hands to decide whether to reveal it to her.
“Jon…” The word slipped softly from her lips, barely louder than her usual voice, yet it had the power to freeze the
two men in the hall downstairs in their tracks. Almost simultaneously, both men lifted their heads and directed their
gazes toward Rosalie.
Shortly after, their expressions underwent a profound shift. Calvin was overwhelmed by worry and regret; he had
never intended for his words to be overheard by others. Jonathan shared the same thought, which was why he had
instructed all the housekeepers to vacate the main house.
It was to ensure those words remained a secret.
But as fate would have it, sometimes the more you feared something, the more likely it was to come to pass.
Jonathan gazed at Rosalie in disbelief, his face now pallid, as if his entire blood supply had frozen the moment he
heard the name “Jon.”
“Jon… Jon…”
Once, he had cherished hearing her address him that way, but now, he dreaded it just as much.
He had taken precautions to keep those words a secret from the housekeepers and even the butler, but he had
failed to anticipate her presence!
He had assumed she would still be asleep for a while, not waking up so early. He had completely overlooked the
possibility of her early awakening.
“Why? Why am I so careless? Why can’t I make such a simple prediction? Is it because I know that Calvin must

chaotic and making me overlook the obvious?” Jonathan cried out in his heart.
He longed to return to his usual self, to address her with the same tone, voice, smile, and warmth.
However, in reality, his entire body seemed to tremble, and every sound felt as if it was stuck in his throat. Uttering
even a single syllable had become an immensely challenging task.
Rosalie held onto the stair railing with one hand, descending the steps slowly. The stairs, once so familiar, now felt
like stepping on clouds, light and ethereal. With each step she took, Jonathan’s complexion grew even paler. By the
time she reached the bottom of the stairs and stood before him, his face had drained of all

color, and even his lips bore a grayish hue.
His appearance, coupled with what she had just overheard, left Rosalie with a crystal-clear understanding of the
truth.
Yet, she took a deep breath, her bright eyes gleaming. “Tell me, is what Calvin said just now true?”
Jonathan’s lips quivered. He opened his mouth, but words failed him.
“Is it true that Yvette was the murderer all those years ago?” Rosalie pressed on. Finally, Jonathan’s throat
produced a sound. “Rosie, I-I can explain, I…” His voice, usually refined and warm, now sounded as rough as if it
had been dragged over gravel.
“Was it Yvette?” Rosalie asked with unyielding determination.
He remained silent, his gaze meeting her eyes, and finally, the word “yes” escaped his thin lips.
“You’ve known the truth all along, but back then, because of the deal with the Hamilton family, you… chose to
remain silent, didn’t you?” she continued asking. His lips quivered even more, and every question she posed felt like
a searing blade, ruthlessly piercing through him, as if he were undergoing torture.
What’s even more disheartening was that the suffering he was enduring was a consequence of his own actions, and
he was unable to find any justification for himself!
“Yes or no? Answer me!” She raised her voice, her demeanor growing increasingly agitated.
“Yes,” he replied. “But Rosie, at the time, I-”
“Jonathan, how could you do this? For the sake of your interests, you let an innocent person go to jail? And… you
knew what the Hamilton family did to me in there, didn’t you?” Yet, he had chosen to turn a blind eye, to let it all
happen.
At first, Rosalie had assumed that Jonathan believed she was the true culprit in the car accident, which was why he
had behaved in that manner.
But now she came to realize what a great joke she had turned herself into.
He had known the truth from beginning to end, knew her innocence, and knew she had been grievously wronged.
Yet, he had done nothing, not even shown a hint of compassion.
“I’m sorry… Rosie, I’m so sorry…” Jonathan kept apologizing, trying to reach out to
embrace her.
But she forcefully pushed his hand away. “I’m sorry… So, for you, a person’s entire destiny can be reduced to a
mere apology. Do you realize that I almost died in that prison? How could you lie to me like this, how could you…
keep this from
me…”
Rosalie suddenly furrowed her brow, her hands clutching her pregnant belly as

waves of pain radiated from her abdomen, causing her to panic.
“The children… the children can’t be in danger!” she exclaimed silently.
She realized that her earlier emotional outburst might have triggered this physical discomfort.
“Rosie, what’s wrong?” Jonathan rushed to support Rosalie, his voice filled with concern, while Calvin, standing
nearby, wore an equally worried expression. “My stomach… it hurts,” Rosalie uttered with effort, her forehead now
glistening with a thin layer of sweat. “The children… the children…”
“I’ll take you to the hospital immediately!” Jonathan swiftly lifted Rosalie into his arms and hurried toward the
manor’s exit, with Calvin closely following.
Rosalie could only feel the pain intensifying, and her vision began to darken. In that last moment before losing
consciousness, all she could think of was that her children had to be fine!
Rosalie was rushed to the emergency room, where doctors promptly conducted an examination. Outside the
emergency room, Calvin was unsure of what to say as he observed Jonathan, who appeared visibly anxious.
He had never seen Jonathan in such a state before.
Only Rosalie’s condition could induce such nervousness in Jonathan.
Reflecting on this, Calvin couldn’t help but feel a twinge of self-mockery. He had been no different. Because of
Rosalie, he had trailed Jonathan’s car so anxiously that he had almost caused an accident.
All he hoped for was that nothing would happen to the children
in ie’s
womb.
If anything were to happen to the children, it would be an unbearable burden for Rosalie, and he couldn’t bear to
see her brokenhearted and in pain!
