Chapter - 98
"Hi, Daniel?"
"Yes, Alex... Daniel, it is," Daniel enthusiastically replied, "Tell me. To what do I owe the pleasure of this call in the morning?" Daniel sounded pleasant to talk with Alex.
After Martha left, the first thing Alex did was to call Daniel, "Well, the thing is, I am thinking of not coming to work today. I..." Alex told Daniel, but before he could complete his sentence, Daniel interrupted.
On the other hand, as soon as these words left Alex's mouth, Daniel grew a bit anxious. He interrupted Alex, "Is everything alright? Are you sick or something?" Daniel asked, concerned about Alex, but it was the piling work he was more concerned about. If the one sent to help him can't be of any help, what was even the use of asking Karen anyway?
"No, I am totally right everywhere. I just need to dig around and look into things related to Abir and Suzie's incidents. I feel like I can find something concrete related to the case, if I lurk around a bit," Alex told Daniel. He could feel the uneasiness in Daniel's voice earlier, and he knew to a certain degree the reason behind it.
"Oh! That’s why… That's fine then. Yeah... Yeah... I see where you are getting to. I totally agree with you, don't worry, I will even let Karen know about this," Listening to Alex, Daniel breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thanks. I will let you know in detail about everything by the end of the day," Alex said and getting the affirmation from the other side, he hung up.
After reading the details on Abir and Suzie, Alex felt that there was no use grilling them to get out something from them. He felt that the two of them are more likely expandable pawns in bigger scheme of things. The best thing to do would be to follow the reports filed by the police and dig around them, hoping to stumble upon something new.

Downstairs,
Alex slowly climbed down the stairs, and without making a sound, tried to sneak his way out of the house. He didn't want to face Martha after that awkward encounter with her in the morning.
"Hold on, where are you sneaking your way to?" Just as Alex reached the door, just a turn of the knob away to leave the house, Martha called out from behind, "You didn't even say your bye."
With his hand on the knob, Alex wished he was a second faster. Alex turned around and grinned stupidly, looking at Martha, "Who is sneaking away? I was kinda in a hurry, so forgot all about you," Alex said in his defence, waving his hand while his other hand was behind his back.
"Don't try to be cheeky. Eat before you leave," Martha said as she made faces.
"I really can't, mom. I really need to go. There is so much to do today," Alex said, "I have to run around places related to what I told you yesterday."
"More reason for you to full your tank," Martha replied in her usual caring tone. Alex felt that whatever happened in the morning was nothing more than a spoiled brat acting cheeky in her eyes. It was more frustrating than being labeled a pervert because if that’s the case, it was only him reading more into it and getting a hard-on to make things worse.
"I will have something outside," Alex walked up to her, kissed her cheeks and dashed out of the house without waiting for her reply.
Martha smiled as she gazed at the fading figure of her son.
'Wait a minute, what was he hiding behind his back?' Martha suddenly thought.

Outside,
Alex sighed in relief after getting out of the clutches of his mother. Slowly walking to the garage, he looked at the bouquet in his hand.
'Well, I guess this is going to be the end of this relationship,' Alex thought, looking at the bouquet of random flowers beautifully arranged together.
He rode his bike out of the garage but immediately stopped in front of Margaret's. It has been a few days since the last time they saw each other. The last time she was in front of him, she ended up getting mad over something very trivial. Alex swore that he won't take the initiative to talk to her, but he was sending her flowers and chocolates from the next day itself.
Alex sighed as he looked at Margaret's house. Now that Susan was out of the picture, he would love to give it a try, but the recent progressions in his life won't let him do it. Now the priority in his life was to find the missing pieces of the puzzle, missing from his memory.
Alex got off his bike, slowly walked up to Margaret's door and placed the flowers there. It might be a good idea to ask for an apology from Margaret face to face, but Alex felt he did nothing wrong, so he won't know what to say. What he was doing was more than enough on his part.
Leaving the flowers at her doorstep, Alex, without wasting his time, turned back to leave. He got on his bike, wore his helmet and was just about to take off when the voice from behind almost made his heart skip a beat.
"And here I thought you were done apologising," Margaret wearing a nice violet sports bra and a small bottle in her hand, was standing behind Alex. She gently tapped a towel over her face, trying to wipe off the sweat she got from jogging.
'Ah! Shit,' Alex slowly turned around and looked at his gorgeous neighbour. He wanted to look at her and greet, but the moment his gaze fell on the two rising peaks, he could not look away. Every time she breathed, her boobs would strike him out.
But Margaret had no idea. The helmet made sure that he was not caught staring at her milkers.
"You don't know how surprised I was to find flowers and chocolates at my doorstep for the last few days. Didn't you say girls are queuing to be with you? What happened? Am I that attractive to you that they couldn't catch your eye?" Margaret asked as she walked up to Alex and gently pulled off his helmet. She was looking straight into his eyes as she spoke.
It was only after Margaret removed his helmet that Alex averted his eyes from her milkers. And her words made him remember why he was there. He grabbed Margaret's wrist and pulled away her hand that was heading towards his face.
"I think we should stop now. It won't work between us," Alex said.
