With the problem of workers for the house settled, and everything looking good, Dustin decided to do something else more productive.
As it was at the time, everything seemed to be moving slow and nothing much eventful. The Messenger or his assistant were yet to give a new announcement, so it seemed like everyone was free for the time being.
The following week, Dustin decided to visit the city library to gain more knowledge about this world they were in. (I changed it from realm to world. It makes things easier.)
As the saying goes, knowledge is power, so Dustin saw the need to amass as much as possible.
After he began visiting the library, he noticed something peculiar, and that was that his memory was something else. It was as though he had a photographic memory. He knew his stats were a wondrous thing, but he never expected this.
Very soon, after he started visiting the library, he began to drag attention. It didn't take long for most of the officials there to know him, and even some he hadn't met. At first, when he found out that his memory was that good and he literally had to read a book once and he would remember everything, Dustin decided to abuse this as much as possible, wanting to test his limits.
It started from the librarian testing his knowledge as he noticed Dustin switching books so quickly, and to his surprise, he found himself lacking. When Dustin had cleared the entire ground floor of the library in just one week, it dragged even the attention of the one incharge of things in the library, who surprisingly wasn't even a librarian or government official. It wasn't quite clear how this world worked.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMuch to Dustin's surprise, he beat the man in a test of knowledge of all the knowledge contained in the floor.
Long Beard, as the man was called, immediately acknowledged Dustin after that day, and even after the other officials disproved of it, he gave Dustin access to the first floor, out of the entire four floors. He also tried convincing Dustin to become a scholar, but Dustin refused, even after all the benefits were tabled before him covered in dripping honey.
(Scholars in this world aren't so simple, and are pretty powerful themselves. Also, my naming skills suck. Anyone with a better name for Long Beard, comment.)
After going down that rabbit hole, it took Dustin two whole month to finish reading the entire library. Something that truly shocked everyone in the city. At that point, he had become popular as a divine scholar. No one knew how the rumour started, but it took root fast.
Along the line, the system had suggested for Dustin to create a Memory Library where all his selected knowledge and memories could be stored in an orderly manner. At the time, the system detected that he was taking in too much information that was unsorted and scattered. After all, Dustin had spent the last month in there alone. A feat that propelled the divine scholar rumour.
'System, can you analyse all I asked?'
=Sorry. The system cannot perform such tasks that you have asked.=
Dustin wasn't disappointed, but instead felt a bit of stress from future happenings.
After reading all the knowledge the library had to offer, Dustin found something very interesting about it.
Each individual book in that large library was like a piece of a puzzle, they were all connected somehow. Although he could tell that, he was unable to see where it all connected. It was a bit frustrating to know something existed and not be able to prove it, but Dustin knew that whatever it was, it was important. After all, the gods who brought them there wouldn't allow it.
'Or maybe, they're not aware… That's a possibility. Nobody seems to know anything.'
Long beard was very disappointed when Dustin told him that he was already an adventurer and planned to remain one. Honestly, he just didn't want much attention on him, and after learning of his new identity in the city as the divine scholar, it was already too late in a way, but he could work with that, considering the situation.
'No need to outright disprove of their views, it would give me a bad image, which is even worse.'
The good thing was people weren't suddenly throwing themselves at his feet, after all, not many knew what he looked like. Only those present in the days of the ground floor of the library would know a bit, and even then, they would not really remember much, as he was nothing at the time.
'Initially it was to acquire knowledge and also because I hadn't read a single book for so long and was afraid I would lose my literacy, but now I've put myself into something bigger.'
The third month, Dustin's name had travelled pretty far throughout the continent, another thing he learnt. It turned out that when they were transported here, to this world, they were brought to a remote continent that was pretty far from the rest. He wasn't sure how big this world was, but considering the size of the continent alone, it was safe to assume that Russia was only close to middle sized.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWalking home after his final day at the library, Dustin noticed Rea practicing in the garden, so he walked up to her.
"You've improved." He said, as he got closer.
"Oh, you're back, I didn't notice you approaching." She said in between breaths. Magic seemed to be as tasking as physical training, huh?
"Hm." Dustin replied.
Then, without reason or a heads up, he continued, "prepare yourself, next week, I'll be teaching you somethings. That's like in two or three days right? Should be enough time." Dustin said before leaving. He hadn't really waited for her to respond, so she could only accept his proposal and not object.
'He must have noticed something! This is my opportunity to learn from the great Scholar!'
…
'Why do I feel like something is wrong?' Dustin thought, as he got an awkward feeling.
Unbeknownst to him, everyone in the house had heard the rumour of him being the divine scholar, and Rea's believe in him didn't help matters. Very quickly, everyone there could kill themselves than refuse his identity of the scholar.
