Chapter 698 Does your boss like you?
Xiulan and her mother put all their efforts into hosting Fu Ling that evening.
When Fu Ling arrived at the apartment, he felt weird and began to regret why he accepted this dinner.
He was uncomfortable being in Xiulan's apartment and if it was a house belonging to her family, he wouldn't be that bothered.
Since he has already stepped into her house and was greeted and taken in, it was too late to turn around, so he had to get used to the environment.
Xiulan's mother was so welcoming and all through the dinner, she was smiling from ear to ear and making him try all the dishes on the table.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThis was a first for Fu Ling since wasn't all that free. Thankfully, Xiulan was there to keep her mother in check.
Once Fu Ling checked his wristwatch and saw that it was already past 6:30 pm, he got up to leave after he wished Xiulan's mother a safe trip back to their hometown.
"Mr. Fu, thank you for coming over. I wish you a safe trip back home." Xiulan's mother said before giving Xiulan a sign to send him off.
While they were off, She cleared all the dishes on the table with a thought, 'I have shown my gratefulness to him.'
She was thinking about the freedom and relief she just had from hosting Fu Ling. Now that she was going back to her hometown, she felt free of debts.
Free of debts didn't mean that she had no idea about the debts her daughter had to repay, even though the amount was not known to her. The freedom she felt was different.
After Xiulan escorted Fu Ling downstairs, He opened his car and brought out a shop bag, and passed it to her.
Because he was speaking while passing the bag to her, Xiulan instinctively took it from him without the opportunity to reject it.
"I got some tonics for your mother and she can take them with the prescription written by the doctor. I didn't want to go in with it so she wouldn't feel indebted and want to do something else again, hence I left it in my car and waited for this opportunity." Fu Ling explained.
Fu Ling could see himself out, but he purposely did not say anything when Xiulan's mother asked her to escort him, just because of the expensive tonics he had to give her.
Fu Ling was not someone that cared or showed that kind of emotion to anybody, but he felt a sense of duty to do something since the person involved was his former staff's parent.
Fu Ling has never had the chance to act this way to anyone because, in the Fu family, there were servants that ran errands for them. They didn't lack people to look after them, and this first experience for him wasn't so bad. Especially because he wasn't forced to do it.
Xiulan was taken by surprise and didn't expect this kind of gesture from him, till the extent that she almost forgot to say thanks.
"Remind your mother of the doctor's advice, I'm leaving." Fu Ling said and got into his car, and it was at this time that Xiulan remembered to thank him, just before he drove off.
There was a big smile on Xiulan's face as she waited for Fu Ling's car to disappear from her view. "He is really so kind and different from his looks." She said to herself.
She would have been carried away by admiring this new side of her ex-boss soon-to-be boss if she didn't remember that her mother was left all alone in her house, and just a few seconds out of her sight was enough to get her working again.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRushing back to her apartment, Xiulan wasn't surprised to see her mother working, but she managed to pull her out of the kitchen by giving her the expensive healthy tonics Fu Ling bought for her.
Even Xiulan's mother who was very excited about the kind gesture had to ask, "Does your boss like you in any way?"
Immediately she asked that question, a shocked gaze appeared on Xiulan's face. She was thinking about how her boss would like her when she was the one that had her eyes on him.
"Mum, why would you think like that?" Xiulan asked with a shocked gaze.
Her mother glanced at those bottles of tonics before shifting her gaze to her, "Because no boss would be so good to their current or former employee. Are you sure he doesn't like you?"
Xiulan understood the reason for her mother's weird question, but that didn't mean that she would continue to let her have those absurd thoughts.
"Mum, stop thinking that way. My Boss was very strict with me and any other staff back when I was working for him. He doesn't smile with anyone, and if you make any mistakes, he scolds the hell out of you. I think he is acting this way because it is hard for him to ignore your situation since he came to find out about it. Also, he may be acting this way because I am no longer his employee."
Xiulan thought this way because given how strict Fu Ling was with her and the others back then, he would never give out this kind of help because he loves maintaining that strict relationship between a boss and an employee. action
Now that she no longer worked for him, there was no need to maintain any professional relationship between them.
Xiulan's mother seemed to get the gist now and didn't mention any other absurd thoughts, which made Xiulan sigh in relief and get back to doing the work her mother was working on before she came in.
On his way back home, Fu Ling thought back to how close the relationship Xiulan had with her mother was. During dinner, he could see how close they were, and he came to understand that Xiulan might not go on well if anything had happened to her mother.
Within him, Fu Ling began to feel the need to have that kind of relationship with someone, even though it would hurt if things went south.
