"Mommy's gone on a business trip; how about we go find her tomorrow?"
Brandon tried to coax her softly, but to his surprise, Theresa bawled even louder, screaming, "No, no!" Then suddenly, she went
quiet, her face turning blue. Grace freaked out and, with a slap, flipped her phone face down on the table, calling out Theresa in a
panicked voice.
Brandon's face changed; the flipped phone completely blocked the view. The screen was pitch black, all they could hear was Grace
calling out Theresa in sheer terror, along with the sound of her patting Theresa's back.
"Theresa!" Brandon also called out her nin a rush, simultaneously releasing the handbrake and speeding the car onto the
road, wheeling around towards home.
It was hard to tell if Grace's quick thinking paid off, but as Brandon's car merged with the traffic, Theresa, who'd been silent for a
while on the other end of the line, finally started crying again, but with violent retching sounds. It seemed like she was going to cry
herself breathless once more. Grace kept hugging and soothing her with a gentle voice, hurriedly finding a chance to say to
Brandon, "Mr. Crawley, Theresa just couldn't catch her breath from crying so hard; | couldn't calm her down at all. Can you come
back now to check on her?"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHer voice was still trembling, and she was clearly still shaken up.
Theresa had really been crying until she couldn't breathe, which she heard of before; they call it a breath-holding spell in little kids.
It was when they temporarily stopped breathing during an intense emotional upset or crying fit.
She'd been with Theresa since her birth and had never encountered something like this. She was a bit out of her depth and scared
Theresa might trigger another breath-holding episode if she kept crying.
"I'm on my way back now." Brandon said, "Keep an eye on her for now; find something to distract her with."
"Okay," Grace replied before hanging up in a hurry.
Brandon tossed his phone aside, only then remembering Marian was still in the car.
He planned to personally take Marian to the hospital so Martin could draw blood for another paternity test. This time, he was
determined to have them retested no matter what, but with Theresa's situation.
Brandon pulled the car over to the side of the road.
"Get out of the car for now!" He told Marian in the backseat.
Marian had been watching his conversation with Grace and knew Brandon was worried about Theresa. She couldn't help but offer,
"I'm good with kids. How about | go with you and try to calm her down? | can stop her crying."
"No need!"
Brandon bluntly rejected her offer, opening the rear car door, "You head back."
Marian felt a bit dejected but still nodded, "If you need any help, Mr. Crawley, feel free to callanytime."
With that, she pulled out a business card, left it on the seat, and got out of the car.
Brandon didn't bother with her. As soon as the car door shut, he sped off again. On the way, Brandon called Martin and told him
not to go to the hospital yet. He didn't trust Martin's competence.
He was determined to personally take Marian and Martin to the hospital for a blood draw to clear up the DNA results.
Marian was here; she couldn't escape. Theresa was the top priority right now.
Martin didn't understand Brandon's suspicions, "What exactly are you doubting? If Marian isn't the real Yolanda, then how do you
explain the test results? Does she have the skills to switch samples, or do you think that hair can't be used as a sample for the
test?"
