ASHANTI'S POV.
ONE WEEK LATER.
Today is the day of Rhea's trial. Alpha Reagan toldabout my parent's arrival at the court and right now, we're heading there to see them. I'm extremely nervous about Rhea's final judgement. She committed a grave cr- well, she assisted, but since all evidence leads to her, they assshe masterminded and committed the cr- so she risks getting a gruessentence.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMy hands won't stop shaking as I'm being led into the court building. Mostly because of the fact that I'm about to face my father. Rhea has always been his favourite daughter, so I can already guess his reaction when he sees me. He'll be disappointed. Angry even. I just pray he doesn't get angry enough to not tell anything about my mother. I really need that information from him.
The guards accompanying Alpha Reagan andlead the way into a room that happens to be a lounge and I look at Alpha Reagan, confused. He realises my confused state and smiles.
"Leave us." He tells the guards who exit the lounge, closing the door behind them.
"Why are we here? This place doesn't look like a courtroom." He chuckles lightly.
"Because it's not. You said you needed to see your father, that's why I brought you here. The guards will escort him here soon and you guys can discuss privately." "Oh... but I thought that would be done after the trial." I say, with my eyes searching his face for what I don't know. He smiles and takes a step closer to me, his eyes glued to mine, givingthe most meaningful look I've ever seen.
"Well... your sister's cris not an easy one. Her sentence will not be an easy one either. I want you to discuss with your father right now because I don't think he'll want to speak with anybody after knowing how she'll be punished." He calmly explains and it's brilliant.
What he said is very true. Father won't even bother to seeafter Rhea's sentence.
"You're right. I didn't even think of that. Thank you very much." "For nothing." Distant footsteps interrupt our conversation. My heart starts hammering in my chest as I turn to look at the closed door. A pair of those approaching feet belong to my father. In just a matter of seconds, that door will open and I'll meet face to face with him again, after many months. I'm clenching and unclenching my fist by my side as I stare intensely at the door. My heart is beating in my throat and I hear the sound of my heartbeat resonating in my ears. The breath I'm blowing out through my nostrils is so hot, it will burn anything it touches.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe sounds of the approaching footsteps beclouder, meaning they are closer. The ache in my stomach continues to abate. I shoot Alpha Reagan a nervous look, he replies to it with a nod and an expression that says, "Go girl! You've got this", but the only way I want to go right now is melting or incinerating myself to ash.
I was so confident last night about today, but that confidence has flown right out of the window and leftwith nothing but fear and cowardice. I don't think I'm ready to see my fa... The door opens, my soul leaves my body.
Two guards step in first and the third person who walks in is my father My breath catches in my throat when his thmy eyes fall on me. My knees nearly give way forto reach the ground.
"We'll give you two tto speak." Says Alpha Reagan as he takes all the guards outside with him. Pnearly faint when the door closes behind him, leaving just my father andin the room. I know I'm supposed to greet him, call his nor say something at least, but I'm too scared... too shocked to speak. I still can't believe I'm standing in front of my father.
