Was it really Jeremy? For a split second, Alicia was disconcerted. What's wrong with him? Jeremy hardly gave her calls at night. Even if he had wanted to bother her, he mostly sent her messages. So what was troubling him he had to call her at this hour? Did he know Frederick wasn't with her? With furrowed brows, Alicia asked politely, "Anything?" 'Ally, are you and him separated? What happened between you two? Or did you already know..." "Jeremy! Are you truly that bored?" He was calling her in the middle of the night just to put his nose into her privacy? With just one sentence, Alicia felt her anger rising.
"We are doing well, so you have nothing to worry about. You should take care of your own mess first. If you're a good man, then try not to hurt another good girl! At the very least, both of your families will still be on good terms!" "Frederick was drinking and flirting with another woman. Are you both alright?" Jeremy's sarcastic tone cut through Alicia's eardrums all of a sudden as she was about to hang up on him. Her face fell instantly.
"Ally, are you lying toor to yourself? I called because I care about you, not because I want to make a fool out of you! Is it worth pretending that both of you are happily together in front of me? Ally, are you doing this to get back at me? I admit that Frederick has the looks and the status. In Casterwich City, he is second to none. It'd be great to be his girl. He's also richer and even head and shoulders above me, which I accept. It's just that I feel uncomfortable since you're with him. But this feeling isn't because you found a man who's better than me. It's because oflosing you. Do you understand?" Jeremy's said that angrily and hurriedly.
"Do you want to remain silent for the rest of your life just to look good on the outside? While it may be so and envied by many, but behind you'll have to share your husband with someone else and cave in to everything after. Is this what you want? So you're going to help him support the mistress and their illegitimate children? All these giving in just for a womanizer? Or is it because his glamorous status could outshine me, which makes you happy?" While Jeremy was getting all emotional and continued blathering on, Alicia, on the other hand, looked at her phone from tto time. A dumbfounded Alicia asked, "Jeremy, are... are you drunk? Have you beer drinking? I don't have tfor your nonsense!" "Alicia! I just saw him leaving a nightclub with a woman in his arms. They looked really intimate with the kissing and hugging. Do you needto tell you what was going to happen next? How long do you still want to lie to me? I already know that you have moved out of his house!" When he had heard the rumors initially, Jeremy couldn't wrap his head around why this happened. But even so, he would still see them together. He was thinking of finding out what really happened and asking Alicia for confirmation once he was no longer busy. He hadn't expected to witness that scene! With her kind of personality, how could Alicia accept this? Their relationship wasn't really rock solid after all! "Jeremy Pitcher! Are you out of your mind? Callingat midnight just to badmouth him? Lettell you, I don't believe a word you're saying. Not a single word! From now onwards, you are not to slander him! You think too highly of yourself! Whether I am with him or not is none of your concern! I am with him because I like him and I love him! And one day, if I ever choose to leave, that'll be because I no longer love him! You're crazy! F**k!" In the end, Alicia got so furious that after a good bout of scolding, she abruptly ended the call. It was supposed to be a peaceful night but this just cout of nowhere, thus the sudden flush of anger.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHow shameless! Just what was he thinking trying to blabber to her in such drunken condition and during midnight? She'd be as smart as bait if she really believed him.
After switching her phone to silent mode, Alicia had the music blaring and screamed her lungs out to vent her anger.
She wouldn't take it to heart. With her mood lightened, Alicia washed up and went to bed, where she slept the night away.
The next morning, Alicia went to work in a great mood.
During tea break, she texted Frederick a shy-faced emoji.
The thought of Chet's phone call yesterday would make Alicia blush whenever she thought about it.
Almost immediately, Frederick replied, "Still have things to settle. Might not make it back today." Alicia was already happy even when she had not expected any replies from Frederick. "You've been hard at work. Remember to take care of yourself. I am fine here." After sending the message, she remembered the phone call from last night and added, "Are you still in Greenwich?" A suburb south of Casterwich City, Greenwich was about an hour or two's drive from the city. One of the stretches along the way would be congested with vehicles, thus causing severe traffic jams. "Yes, I am. In a meeting. You can callanytif there's anything." Smiling, Alicia texted the following as an end to their text conversation, "Ok, I'll be waiting." Putting her phone down, Alicia got up to make herself sflower tea and had ssnacks which helped to lift her mood. It was all Jeremy's fault for calling her last night and texting her nonsense, which made her easily suspicious of Frederick.
Frederick wasn't that kind of person! After work, Alicia still visited Clearview Hospital as usual. The fruits and gifts she bought were actually mostly for the nurses whom she had befriended previously. After learning that Marshall had yet to return, she swiped through her phone for a while and then left.
As long as the bidding results had not been announced, Alicia would still be afraid that anything happening now could affect the outcome. Therefore, the hospital visit and gifting were a guarantee just in case things might not go their way. As such, she had planned for everything to be carried out until Western City's bidding had been completed. Since the plans she had in mind were just for show, she'd be pretty much worry-free if things were to go smoothly.
As she stepped out of the hospital, a figure suddenly rushed up to her and said, "Ally! You..." It was Jeremy. How did he trace her?
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAlicia turned around and rushed over to her car on the other side. Chasing after her from, behind, Jeremy called er out, "Alicia! Givea moment to speak with you. I mean you no harm!" "What do you want to talk about? That Frederick is fooling around with other women?" Alicia said, rolling her eyes, and gave him a disdainful look.
Jeremy choked a bit and gave a slight involuntary nod, saying, "I didn't lie. I saw it with my own eyes. Just wait..."
He even took out his phone and started scrolling through the photos as he spoke. The distraction oke. The allowed Alicia to get away by jumping in the car and sped away. She smirked without realizing it. "Haha, you really think I'm a fool!" She had never met a man this gossipy. How disappointing! Alicia stopped her car as the traffic light turned red. She then casually glanced behind her, only to see a familiar white car trailing her. Looking away, she rolled her eyes.
It was Jeremy again. Was he going to follow her all the way home?
When the light turned green, Alicia drove into a mall nearby. She did not want to get involved with him. With e half of her day spent at the mall, Alicia eventually bought herself sclothes and changed them. She then took a cab to get back home.
