Chapter 26
The more Nancy voiced her grievances, the fainter her conviction became, the hatred in her eyes
simmering. But it was as if she didn’t have the guts to open the door to confirm her suspicions.
“Why don’t you come in and see for yourself?”
Grace nonchalantly shrugged, swung the door wide open and pointed to the spot where Edgar had
been standing, “He is right there!”
Nancy felt a knot in her stomach.
Following Grace’s pointing finger, she saw nothing but an empty wall.
“Are you kidding me?”
She glared at Grace, her eyes seething with hostility.
Grace was taken aback for a moment.
Edgar was just here, did he possess some kind of supernatural ability?
As Nancy watched Grace’s reaction, she sensed something fishy was going on. In a huff, she pushed
past Grace and proceeded to open every cubicle, scrutinizing each one.
Grace stood behind her, equally puzzled by Edgar’s sudden disappearance.
After combing through all the cubicles, they simultaneously set their sights on the last one, its door
slightly ajar.
Nancy took a deep breath and with a sudden movement, thrust the door wide open!
Still nothing.
Grace, however, spotted the window ajar on the cubicle’s right side, and realization dawned on her.
She couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of the head of the Fallen Group, reduced to sneaking out
of a restroom window.
Seeing Grace’s amusement, Nancy was stumped and her suspicions were reignited.
“If you’re the only one in the restroom, where did the phone ring come from?”
Grace waved dismissively, not responding.
The message was clear – it was for her to figure out.
Seething with anger, Nancy turned to Grace and spat out a threat, “Grace, you’re history to Edgar, I’m
warning you to steer clear of him. If I catch you trying to make moves on him, I won’t let you off the h o
o k!”
Upon hearing this, Grace burst into laughter, responding unflinchingly, “I never had anything to do with

“You!”
Nancy, taken aback by the icy glint in Grace’s eyes, found herself lost for words.

Chapter 26
As Grace turned to leave, she cast a derisive look back at Nancy, “By the way, take care of your as s h
o l e fiance, tell him not to get on my bad side. Because both of you make me want
to hurl.”
“You! Bitc h!”
Nancy was seething, but impotent in the face of Grace’s provocations. She cursed her luck for last
night’s failed plans.
Frustrated, she stomped her foot, washed her hands and left the restroom.
“Nan.”
Nancy’d hardly put one foot in front of the other when a familiar voice from behind stopped her dead in
her tracks.
Nancy turned around to see Edgar emerge from the men’s restroom with a poker face. A wave of relief
washed over her.
Perhaps her nerves had been too wound up, could the ringing have come from the men’s
restroom?
“Edgar, did you catch what I was saying out in the restroom corridor just now?”
Edgar nodded. “Yes.”
Nancy’s face flushed a deep shade of red. The last thing she wanted was for her earlier rant to leave a
bad impression in Edgar’s mind.
“I’m sorry, my bad. I lost my cool thinking you were the one in the ladies’ restroom. I promise to never
jump to conclusions or raise my voice at you again.”
Edgar remained silent, his gaze seemed as deep as the ocean.
A sight of dark circles under her eyes reminded him of the previous night. Nancy had sought him late,
and having failed to find him, she had stood outside his villa for the best part of the night, reminiscing
about the past.
Although he felt a hint of threat, Edgar, being a man of his word, had acquiesced to her proposal.
But…
From some point on, Nancy seemed more and more like a stranger to him. At times, he even
questioned if the radiant girl from the past was really her.
“Nan, after a few years abroad, you seem to have changed a lot.”
When he said this, Edgar was expressionless, then walked past her, making his way back to the dining
room.
Nancy, on the other hand, stood there as if she’d been struck by lightning.
How… How could Edgar look at her like that?
Did he find something out?
Just as Grace resettled herself, Tom was about to find her. Seeing her finally emerge, he let out a sigh
of relief.
Chapter 26
“Grace, where have you been all this while?”
“What’s wrong? Anything wrong?” Grace noticed his troubled face and queried.
“Mr. Smith sent someone to find you. The issue you asked him to investigate yesterday seems to be
making headway. He asked you to see him whenever possible.”
“Alright, I’ll head right over.”
“Hey, hey, hey! At least finish your meal before you take off!”
Tom called out in a reproachful tone, but Grace was already on her way out.
After their meal, Edgar took Nancy back to her hotel.
Looking at the cold and sterile room again, Nancy, slightly displeased, clung onto his hand, pouting,
“Edgar, we’re engaged now, can’t I move into your villa?”
Edgar’s brow furrowed involuntarily.
He had clearly spelled it out last time that his villa was off-limits. Why was she bringing it up again?
Despite being ticked off, Edgar still soothed her, “Hold your horses, I’ll have someone arrange a
suitable place for you asap.”
Nancy quickly picked up on his annoyance.
She felt even more wronged.
Why did Grace get to reign in that villa for three years, while she didn’t even have a chance to step in?
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBut she bit her tongue. Nancy knew Edgar hated women who wore their hearts on their sleeves.
“Or, you don’t have to go back to the villa. The hotel feels like a ghost town. Can you stay with me, just
for tonight, Edgar?”
Her voice was as sweet as honey, her pitiful look could melt any man’s heart.
However, Edgar didn’t even bat an eye at her, his inscrutable expression hidden behind a poker face.
“I’ve got business to take care of at the company. Go to bed early.”
With that, Edgar unclenched her hand forcefully and split.
As the door closed with an icy slam, Nancy slid down onto the carpet, her eyes brimming with unshed
tears.
Why did everything turn topsy-turvy after she returned?
Edgar no longer showered her with the affection and protection he used to.
Could it be… that he really already knew?
Panic started to paint Nancy’s face.
As she sat there, lost in thought, the door creaked open again, and a pair of black leather shoes filled
her line of sight.
Chapter 26
“Edgar! I knew you…”
Her jubilant words died on her lips when she realized it wasn’t Edgar, but Tim, who walked
in.
Her face fell once more.
Tim looked at her, down in the dumps, his heart aching, yet he still had to harden his heart, “Miss
Mellis, I hate to bother you, but there’s an urgent matter I need to ask you.”
“Go ahead, I promise to answer seriously.”
Watching her trying to keep up appearances, Tim felt a pang of sympathy, he asked softly, “Last night,
Miss Salen was ambushed by a group of gangsters on her way home from work. The situation was
dangerous. Are you in the know?”
Nancy was taken aback, “What! Is Grace okay?”
“She’s alright. Mr. Fallen happened to be there last night, he gave those gangsters a piece of his mind.
But he wants me to sniff out who’s pulling the strings.” He paused, scrutinizing Nancy’s expression.
Nancy appeared to breathe a sigh of relief, “That’s good.”
Then, as if the penny dropped, she stared at Tim in disbelief, “So, you came all the way here to ask
me, thinking I was the one who sent the gangsters after Grace?”
