Thud!
“I was so tired...” Jake felt as if his entire energy has been thoroughly sucked out with this damn wall in front of him. Whoever designed this was a genius because it was strong and contained several layer of metals that he had trouble to move for a bit.
Thankfully, his ability enabled him to recover them to its previous state or he would feel that he could never recover this wall in his entire life.
Dylan didn’t say anything, but he also sat on the ground.
The last battle against these giant mutated ants while they were waiting for Jake to open the door was exhausting. He had to use almost all of his elemental energy just to make sure that these giant mutated ants would never pass.
“Little Kitty, is she alright?” Lotte’s voice cracked when she saw Kyle was holding the motionless Kate.
“She’s fainted.” Kyle is not a doctor, but he could sense Kate’s body was heating up. She had used up her entire ability and Kyle didn’t know what he was supposed to do anymore. All he could do was to hold her tightly close to him.
“I can use healing with my wood element. It might not be as good as those of healing department, but it might help,” Lotte offered. After all, she barely did anything aside from acting as a scout lately.
“Ok.” Kyle nodded.
.....
Rather than doing nothing, it would be better to try something. Even if the chance was slim, it would be better to try doing something rather than doing nothing at all. At the very least, that was what Kyle could say to comfort himself.
Lotte’s trembling fingers hold one of Kate’s front limb as she began to pour the wood energy within her body into Kate’s small body. The energy was warm and comfortable as it mixed inside Kate’s body.
At this moment, Lotte was stunned.
She felt as if Kate’s body was a bottomless hole that seemed to suck the energy from her. The wood energy inside her body was being emptied very quickly.
“Kyle, this little cat... is sucking energy...”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter that, Lotte felt that her energy was emptied and released her hand. She staggered and took out the chocolate colored gem, slashed the top of her palm and put the gem there.
Right afterwards, the gem disappeared and Lotte passed out.
“Lotte!” Jake quickly went to Lotte and saw the gem that disappeared into Lotte’s body.
“You take yours too.” Kyle glanced at Jake. “I’ll be guarding first.”
“But you’re also tired!” Jake protested.
Kyle said nothing and simply took out the red and purple crystals that Kate had stuffed into his pocket before. This was what she took out before in case he needed it and she was not available because she was sleeping.
After all, Kate’s sleeping habit was quite bad when she was a cat. She could technically sleep almost everywhere.
‘Little Kitty, wake up soon.’ Kyle held Kate tightly in his embrace while trying to make her as comfortable as possible. His eyes were focused on the small figure in his arm, not wanting to leave her in the slightest bit.
Jake was holding Lotte’s body and then laid her down on the ground after putting his jacket there. The floor was cold. He didn’t want his girlfriend to get sick when she woke up later.
After that, Jake took out the grey colored gem from his pocket. He gritted his teeth.
To be honest, he felt that this gem was not worth it to put their lives on the line like this now that he had seen the result. If getting this gem had to be traded with his girlfriend’s life and also Kyle’s little cat, he couldn’t accept it.
In his opinion, Little Kitty was already like their formal members.
This was why he didn’t want anything to happen to her.
No matter what.
“Don’t do anything reckless, Kyle.” Jake took a deep breath and slashed the back of his hand. The grey gem that was put on top of the wound was absorbed quickly and dissolved inside his body.
Jake let out a sharp cry as he leaned on the wall behind him.
Metal was strong and sharp. They had to be under high temperature before they could normally bend and at this moment, Jake felt his entire body was like a furnace. Furnace that was used to smelt metal.
Gritting his teeth, Jake tried his best to focus on the metal element in his body that was so strong and hard to move. He had to integrate it into his body as soon as possible or he would not be able to survive.
“Kyle.”
Kyle raised his head and saw Dylan looking at him seriously. It was clear that Dylan was worried about him.
Even though the three of them would often joke around, they would never leave each other’s side when it truly mattered. This was one of the reasons why they continued being friends even after so many years have passed.
“I’m fine.” Kyle took a deep breath. He glanced at Dylan. “Focus on absorbing the gem. I’ll guard first.”
Dylan glanced at Kate on Kyle’s arm and nodded with difficulties. “Take turns later.”
“Ok.” Kyle nodded.
After saying those, Dylan took the crystals in his pockets and began to focus on meditating to restore his strength. No matter how badly they wanted to sleep right now, the best they could do was to restore their strength with these crystals.
Then, it was silent.
With all the others were busy integrating the gem into their body and Dylan busy to restore his strength, Kyle stayed silent in his place. The red and purple crystals in his hand were decreasing slowly as the energy entered his body, recovering his exhausted strength.
The room was empty.
It looked like an abandoned storage room that hadn’t been used in many years. Thankfully, the wall was sturdier than the one above, which was why these giant mutated ants couldn’t enter and disturb them in the slightest bit.
Time ticked.
Second felt like days, minutes felt like weeks, and hour felt like years.
Kyle didn’t know how long he waited when Dylan suddenly patted his shoulder. Looking at Dylan’s expression, Kyle knew that the other party will definitely force him to rest.
“Put her down.”
Kyle had wrapped Kate with his jacket to keep her warm. As what kind of medicine needed, he honestly didn’t know. Thus, all he could do was to let her rest and tried to make her comfortable.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“I know,” Kyle said slowly.
Dylan sat beside Kyle and Kyle closed his eyes, completely focusing his attention on the crystals to recover his strength. Because he was still guarding not long ago, he naturally didn’t concentrate fully.
But still, Kyle found himself feel very irritable. It was as if he wanted to do something more but couldn’t find himself doing it. This was not the first time he felt this way and it also made Kyle even more annoyed.
When he was done, Kyle stared at the sleeping little cat in front of him.
‘You’re truly a heartless little one.’
Kyle sighed deeply.
If he told himself in the past that he would be attached to his pet so much, his past self would have long scoffed. But seeing the little cat in front of him, Kyle knew very well that it had become a fact that he was so attached to this little cat.
Right now, he really couldn’t imagine how it would be without this naughty little cat making small trouble around. She was so expressive, energetic, and cute at the same time. Even though there were times when Kyle was annoyed and thought that this little cat had forgotten who her owner is, he still didn’t want her to leave.
It was indeed a weird thought.
But it was the only thing that Kyle could think right now. No matter how strange it was, he didn’t care as long as this heartless little thing could return and accompany him again.
That was all he wanted.
Time passed quietly.
The next one to wake up was Jake. He finished integrating the gem into his body and felt that his entire body had been rammed on by building because of how hard the metals were. It was so hard to integrate the element into his body.
Thankfully, he somehow succeeded at the end.
“They’re not awake yet?” Jake was stunned. He looked at Lotte and inched closer to her, patting her hair tenderly and carefully.
“It’s not easy to integrate the gem into one’s body. Since she’s sleeping, she might need to take more time than you who had to guide the energy,” Kyle said from the back.
“How did you know?”
Kyle didn’t answer and only veered his attention back to Kate.
Jake felt at loss then he recalled that Kate had somehow did that too, which was why Kyle knew about it.
