The WealthTap System: Rising from Rags to Riches
Chapter 58 The Bet And Game -1
"Oh so you have VR. Let's play it. Also… what's fun in games if there is no betting involved?" Lucky smirked.
"Yeah!" a random no-name cheered, joined by collective cheers of some other classmates.
And as usual, Sierra was silent since the moment they were asked to leave the class. She noticed Chris and probably remembered who he was too. But, ignoring his existence, she didn't bother to comment.
"Hmm. Interesting." Ralph nodded too with a look to Chris.
"Well, since the big boss has said, how can I decline?" Chris chuckled and spoke with a tinge of sarcasm.
His sarcasm indeed hurted Ralph's ego a bit, but, seeing no one really paid attention to it and just laughed, he buried his grievances beneath and walked towards the big TV and the screen.
"Well then! What to play!!" Layla clapped her hands excited and turned to Chris who was holding a VR helmet.
"Hmm, start with FISA?" Chris shrugged and called out loud, "Ava, play FISA on the VR."
"As you wish, sir." Ava answered in her monotonous and respectful voice which this time came from the tv speakers.
For the other helmet, Lucky quickly grabbed it and turned towards Chris, "Well well, fancy indeed. But before playing, let's bet."
He grinned while holding the vr helmet carelessly.
"Bet…" Chris gave a look to Lucky. Since Sierra and Ralph have VR too, it wasn't far-fetched to assume Lucky was pretty good at playing it.
Of course, Chris wasn't planning to use that as an excuse and chicken out of the bet.
While playing with Max and others yesterday, he found out that this was one of the games in which he had advantage due to his better instincts and reflexes.
"Why? Are you afraid?" Lucky scoffed after seeing Chris's thoughtful look which he mistook as a frightened look.
"Nope. I was thinking, what do you have that is worth taking." Chris shrugged carelessly.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"You!!! Bastard!" Lucky clenched his fists, getting red in anger as he glared murderously at Chris, "Your car was a MWB, right? Well, mine is a Horshe. Let's bet on those."
"Hmm, a Horshe… well, I guess you can consider that kinda worthy." Chris shrugged carelessly and placed on his helmet to avoid further useless shouts and taunts.
The VR was a half-full dive. It transferred the whole vision into the game as the perspective of player, however the whole body was still in full control of the owner.
So, the controller sticks were held by the two contestants as they readied themselves for the match.
Rest of students also took some seats while chomping some popcorns that were served to them by the maids.
'Tsk, I wish I was more attentive when soccer used to be aired on the tv.' Chris sighed while glancing at the team selection panel that stated the team's names and their cities with overall team's ratings.
Going by the most intelligent decision and choosing the highest rated team he can find, Chris pressed the ready button.
His vision blurred and was swiftly replaced by a huge loading bar.
No matter how many times Chris played, it was indeed quite unnerving to have your vision replaced so swiftly, even when that was done with proper measures to save players from extreme motion sickness.
'Pfft, it feels like teleportation. Is that even possible?' Chris pressed the character switch button as his vision switched again and again to the perspective of players.
With his enhanced eyesight and reflexes, he didn't have too much trouble adjusting with the new perspectives quickly.
Still, if done too frequently, Chris was sure it could cause some overload on his brain. Maybe even result in nasty headaches and vomiting.
// MATCH STARTING, 3.. 2. 1! //
Chris was again suddenly switched into a huge and bustling football stadium. Thousands of fans were cheering for the team while Chris looked at the ball kept in front of him.
He had lost the toss to Lucky earlier and had to start with the kick-off instead.
He quickly passed to the player that was in front of him as his vision changed to that player.
One may ask why wasn't the game simply made in third person perspective like on console rather than having extra trouble of making it switch the perspectives.
And the simple answer to that by the FISA company was… "It makes the game much more interesting and challenging."
To those on TV it simply seemed like Chris had passed the ball to another player as they had the birds eye view.
But, only the players knew how much of a change that simple pass was for the players.
Well, not getting distracted, Chris blinked his eyebrows and moved his hands on controllers to dribble the ball forward.
His thought process was simple that, he would avoid the passing as much as possible. Afterall, a simple pass in VR FISA can change the whole game, since momentum of the player gets interrupted.
"Chris, you sure are a newbie, huh?" Lucky's voice echoed in Chris's ears as his player suddenly stumbled. Chris moved his head fast, only to see a player of Lucky's team get up from the ground and kick the ball towards another teammate.
"..." Chris clenched the controllers tighter and switched to the player that was nearest to the ball, but, of course Lucky dribbled the ball away easily since Chris's senses were already disoriented by sudden shift.
Two more of Lucky's players ran forward and Lucky passed to the middle one… and before Chris knew…
// Peep! LMF - 1 – CDI - 0 //
Lucky's player could be seen doing a celebration dance while Chris looked at the bouncing ball… he underestimated Lucky too much, didn't he.
He knew Lucky could be a good player, but, he didn't expect the gap was this huge.
However, the situation wasn't as despairing as one may assume by looking at the match.
Simply because… Chris was awakened and Lucky was not. Lucky was a normal human and was bound to get exhausted by his reckless character switchings.
But if Chris conserved his energy a lot more and made Lucky get exhausted, the chances of victory would definitely increase.

A system message suddenly popped up in front of Chris's eyes, which Chris didn't even know how it was possible when his vision was in the VR game!
'Wait… Can the other students outside see that too!?!?' Chris panicked and quickly yanked out the helmet only to see that the game was on pause and all other classmates were looking at him with weird looks.
"I was a little thirsty." Chris shrugged and gestured for a maid while looking at system window sneakily.
How was it that this system always manages to surprise him!?
Anyways, Chris read the rewards, and he must admit… they were fricking dope!
One of the things Chris lacked too much was his lack of education and skills. And looking at the examples, it was clear that he knew absolutely none of those. Even when they all seemed very important in his life… yeah… fifth one included…
He quickly put on the helmet and dived back into the game, welcomed by the pleasure-ful and sweet welcome of…
"Oh my, you returned? I thought you had chickened out. I am glad hahahahaha, now I can continue beating you!" Lucky welcomed Chris with his same annoying taunts.
"Sure." Chris pressed the resume button with his stick controller and his vision quickly shifted into that of the goalkeeper.
'Goal kick. Damn it.' Chris cursed as he knew that this shift was inevitable as he needs to pass the ball to someone, or even if he doesn't, he needs to at least shift into another player for defending.
He passed to the player on the left wing, slowly dribbling the ball while also keeping keen eyes onto Lucky's more slide defends and blocking.
His speed was pretty slow as he didn't press the sprinting key and he had lots of time to look for and dribble the ball from defenders, even when they were multiple.
But of course, Lucky was no newbie. Three blockers were right ahead of Chris to intercept the ball and Chris decisively looked left and shot the ball, sending it flying to the left-wing!
Chris's vision shifted fast and he reflexively dribbled the ball sideways, narrowly dodging Lucky's slide attack.
Heaving a deep breath. He looked at the player that was running towards the goal and lob-passed the ball directly to him!
Alas, he forgot one very important rule in soccer.
As
soon as the ball was caught by Chris's team player, a loud siren peeped and the referee ran over.
He forgot the off-side.
